The line "And you know the tequila I drank will make it my fault, and whoever did this to me, whatever he drank that'll be his excuse!" is what completely broke me when this first aired. I feel this is a must see episode for EVERYONE regardless of if you watch the show or not. From Ben and Miranda and Tuck's talk on consent to this entire storyline. Its just utterly heartbreaking.

The "Wall of Women" scene is easily one of the most powerful and heartbreaking things that I've ever seen on television. When one of our sisters is hurt or broken, we, as women owe it to her, to each other, and to ourselves to lift her up until she can stand on her own again. I can't stop crying over the tragic beauty of this episode. 💜💜

my favorite thing about that hallway scene is that so many of the women on screen are members of the crew and writers who wanted to be involved. the creators made arrangements so that anyone who wanted to be in that scene could participate.

The fact that the lady playing the role is an actual survivor, also all the women who line the hall are all crew and producers and cast

The lady playing the role did such an excellent job, it truly doesn’t surprise me. You can feel the emotions so strongly, it makes sense that they’re actually real emotions for her 💔 The women lining the hall was just so beyond beautiful. I loved it so much (and definitely cried)… 🩷

@@JessTheMD there's an interview on a show about this episode and they said that shonda rhymes initially didn't want the rape kit scene to be shown but the actor who plays Jo argued for it and said but we show violence and this isn't violent. The relations lady at abc agreed with the lady who plays Jo and she also stands in the hall. I really love how as women we can also be each others superheroes

@@WelshAmethystGirl087it was actually Shonda who argued with ABC to keep it in the show. ABC execs did not want it there but she brought up the violence in other shows and then they left it in.

@@deserycharles2121 I was going by an interview where the actor playing Jo literally said it was her that argued for it to be kept in. She was treated in a way that made me think she was heavily involved in that part of the script she certainly seemed very passionate about this episode. The fact that she's British too is insane, I never guessed usually I can tell when someone American is trying to be British but it seems harder to work out when a British person is acting American weird.

As a survivor of being human trafficked by my own bio mom then Sa in Forster care and into my young adult hood when I thought my bio mom changed. I was born addicted she sold me for the addiction and she would drug me saying it was her way to shield me. I am almost 3 yrs sober and still trying to heal! Last rape was a month before I got sober. I wish I had a dr like this. ❤

Thank you for sharing this with us I’m going to school to be a traveling pediatrician nurse in the military and seeing this really helped me heal Somme old wounds and understand as a living breathing human that sometimes you have to go that extra mile to heal others and that their are people out here who have been violated need a voice too and I want to be that person who can notice and save them just like those before me saved me

I have seen, looked after way too many of these cases, women, men, babies, kids and it never gets easier. Just when you think you have heard the worse abuse ever , another case comes along that is unthinkable. As a society we try and encourage women to speak up about the abuse they suffer but we need to do more and we need to do an awful lot more to encourage men to come forward and open up about the abuse they suffer. I am female and though the numbers of women opening up is still too small and completely understandable, the amount of men coming forward is minimal. Sadly, in the US, women are going to be forced to carry their rapists baby and more babies are going to end up in care , being neglected, all because women didn't have any choice both getting pregnant and terminating.

Today, I came across the actual YouTude clip of the video of this story. Further search led me here. Thank you for dissecting and explaining this story. It provided more nuances to an already horrid situation. But, it's needed for all to understand. I'm pleased how you explained the relationship, and extremely appreciative showing the husband being there for her.

Thank You Jess The MD. Understanding that consent doesn't only work one way. And as a survivor I would've felt safer in that hallway. :(

I think it's important to know it goes both/every-which-way ( for all the genders ), but to also acknowledge that there is a statistical difference in how often cis men perpetrate the crime --to all other genders. This does not means they are never victims but it muddles shit up awful if we try to ignore the problem that seems to lean heavily in one direction. I think little girls need the conversaiton as well, but I'm more worried about them not knowing how to say "no" ( ie, making consent trickier for even the best of dudes ) than ignoring no. Women are trained from youth by society to respect others more than their own person and it's very sad while men are given a wild degree of entitlement they need to unlearn.

SA isn't just Rape, it isn't just done by complete strangers who see you in a cute skirt. It isn't always cuts n brusing, medical or physical damage. As a little girl i was molested by every guy brought into my world, except two. Because it started when i was so little , by guys who said they loved me, i thought those who did not SA me, hated me. No one ever told me it was wrong. I buried, hid it, was ashamed of myself, because despite that not being what my mother meant when she called me stupid, SA isn't what she was referring to when she said No One Will Ever Want You, or that realization that it was a 10 yo girl i just made friends with who told me it was wrong as she told me she too was being sexually assaulted, that made me feel ashamed, by because i was being called a Lier when u tried to talk about, by yhe cery ppl i thought i was safe with.... I just hid it I didn't report it There was no SANE Nurse to do an exam, or tell me it was going to be ok.... I carried that into adult hood, and still struggle with some issues frim it. At 46 yes old.... I still have issues

My twin sister worked in a hospital at the time it happened as an operating nurse/assistent...Boki's position. She was dating a guy for a few weeks. It was all fun and great. They went to the cinema and they met up at his house first. He locked the door behind her. Some of the steps continuing sound like she went along with it. She couldn't forgive herself for that. We know this is a surviving strategy, to get out alive. But that was the hardest part for her. She has healed in these ten years. But she couldn't be in the room with a man at first. While her job was handing out the instruments to the Docters. She fought through that trauma, and is now mostly through it all. But for some reason, the bathroom is het trigger. Even I can't "block" her way out, her own brother. I can never tell this story, because it's not mine to tell. But I'm glad I have someplace to do that this one time.

I don’t understand this scene with Joe at the coffee shop Joe went it the conversation with distress, anxious and confusion and wanting to learn about her being left at the fire station as a baby and the woman seems to have railroaded joe emotional concerns for her own and being SA is no excuse for leaving a child at a fire station and this woman using her SA to not look for Joe is disgraceful and disgusting

I just finished watching all 19 Seasons of this show as well as both spin offs and Jo Wilson's story is repeated with Jack Gibson on Station 19. Grey's Anatomy isn't quite as accurate as ER and rely WAY TOO MUCH on the sex stuff, it repeats storylines from both ER and earlier seasons of its own show (writers probably think we'd not remember). With this show it wasn't as much about the medicine as it is the drama. ER, M*A*S*H, St Elsewhere, House MD, Good Doctor, Chicago Med, Saving Hope, Code Black all do this better with medicine

I don’t understand why you keep saying “ intuition “ evidence needs to be presented especially with something as damaging for both men and women as SA I just finished watching this episode today and when teddy assumed the black woman lying down with cut on cheek was assaulted based on marks on face and her reaction for Joe to stay by her side is not evidence for SAI said out loud “ she is not a psychiatrist” and then rewind the video to watch again the scene seconds
