Seriously! I've rewatched the show too many times to do it again any time soon, but these videos are a nice little burst of hannibal content. Plus they're really informative! I remember reading interviews about how Bryan Fuller was doing a lot of research to try to make the depictions of modern psychology on the show realistic (to an extent at least lol), but it's really cool to see an actual professional's interpretation of the story.

7:03 wow... my mum and i live with my nana who is at end of life right now and is on oxygen, shes also a smoker and last night while we were in bed she dropped her cigarette and it set the oxygen piping alight. luckily the firebreak's on the tubing stopped it from lighting up in my nanas face, setting the rest of the tube that circulates the house alight, as well as blowing the tank downstairs that is where i sleep. it was still horrendous to witness and she's been allowed back home with newly fitted oxygen parts as me and my mum promised she wasn't gonna touch a cig again. it's been less than 24 hours since its happened and shes asked thrice for a smoke... insane. also wanted to say thanks for coming back😭 really need my fave distractions rn

I am sorry for whatever challenges you have experienced in the last 3-6 months of this year. That said, I am so thrilled you are back! You are by far the most authentic with your reactions. Your education on mental illnesses and their treatment throughout the past decades and currently is a master class. My mom went straight into psychiatric nursing after graduating from an amazing hospital based program in the early 1960s. I followed her path after graduating with my BSN in 1990. My younger cousin became a board certified child-adolescent psychiatrist and continues to practice. Understanding mental illness has been invaluable both professionally and personally. Please continue your videos. You have an amazing ability to engage and educate. Cheers to a healthy, joy filled, & peaceful 2024! God bless and love you, too!

I was thinking about Cotard Syndrome recently after watching Godzilla Minus One. The main character in that story stuggles with insane amounts of survivor's guilt and as part of that, has episodes where he believes or worries that he might be dead and that his life is just the last thoughts of a dying man. Definitely recommend seeing it if you haven't already.

I loved how you talked about defense mechanisms. As I was in graduate school and learning the theoretical basis for practice, of course we learned about Freud and how it related to modern practice, but I was hesitant to really embrace Freudian perspective. When I graduated and I practiced, I realized how much I did in fact embrace Freud. Defense mechanisms tell us a lot about a person and our way of going through life.

It’s still a big spoiler as it puts everything in another perspective. It’s better to have a plot twist and get to rewatch it with the knowledge, than to get spoilers. Not everyone appreciates knowing things in advance. You might like it but when i get big spoilers like that about shows, i will immediately stop watching it out of frustration. Let people find stuff out on their own

Remember that Hannibal is eating people he finds to be beneath him and that he's playing a dangerous game with the agents for the same reason, only his victims he sees as animals and the agents he sees like playthings. And speaking of eating, how about a video on the benefits of a proper diet vs a bad one, perhaps you could use clips from this show for it aswell
@Claire_by_the_Seashore Жыл бұрын
That’s really what made me so uncomfortable with this show that I had to stop watching- Hannibal’s going between ethical behavior and requirements and doing harm for his own pathological reasons. Not to mention, the intensity of his pursuit for people he desires. The show is beautiful in so many ways- cinematography, acting, writing. It’s just intentional at every turn. But that’s what I need space and a breath from. Thank you for covering this and giving space between the source and my senses.

Im not sure you ever touched on it, but is there such a thing as "Hyper Empathy Dissorders" like he diagnosed Will with that can make them see through the eyes of killers and stuff like that?
@AnxietyRat Жыл бұрын
No. There isn't such a disorder in real life. The supernatural Empathy superpower Will has is just fiction.
@jijitters Жыл бұрын
Will's ability to see into the minds of killers and see and envision things he has no reason to know/think is entirely fictional, there's no such thing as a hyper-empathy disorder or condition. The closest thing is that some mental illnesses and personality disorders can make people either deficient in or hyper-sensitive to their empathy; i.e. not really a difference in empathy itself but rather how they respond to it and value it. People who are considered "empathy deficient" *usually* aren't actually lacking in empathy, they just ignore and disregard it. Meanwhile people with ADHD, OCD, and BPD are examples of some conditions where people may be perceived as hyper-sensitive to the feelings and treatment of others because there is an obsessive component to their emotions and an inability to separate from their feelings as easily as others.
@akelly4207 Жыл бұрын
There is such a thing as toxic empathy. Where your feelings for the suffering of others and their issues has a direct link to overwhelming you to the point it hinders your own life. Also a separate condition that is mainly felt by caregivers where your empathy towards the life and suffering of the person you care for causes depression, hopelessness and despair because there is no real solution.

Shes been ill for many many years with mental health and addiction issues and then she’s had long covid causing physical issues too. when i watch this show it makes me think about how if someone in Hannibal's role, was working with their patients in this manipulative way, how damaging that could be? especially with the level of intelligence and subtly he has. Much of the show is more focused on external evils, killing, but the darkness present from Hannibal in how he manipulates people's minds to me is nearly as disturbing!
@snuggies80374 ай бұрын
Rewatching this show has made me realize how weirdly protective and almost in love Hannibal is with Will. You can see how he reacts in previous episodes to others talking bad about will and seeing will alive. In his own weird way cares 😂 Somewhat spoiler; but later on Will realizes this in a not confirmed way and Hannibal just becomes so obsessive like full on stalking/giving himself to will.
