@@AliM-kl5rp It's his reactions; us common folk are mostly thinking "ooh, that looked rough", but he as a doctor knows all the possibilities from said event, and his brain seems to go into hyperdrive. For the rest of us, if we don't clearly see what happened like the Nick Chubb injury earlier this NFL season, we assume the guy maybe just walks it off during the commercial break.

To answer his question at 3:31 NBA players do in fact jam their fingers very often. However, this happens so often that they usually can play through it. If the jam is a little worse, players will play through, then when the coach takes them out to rest, will have their fingers wrapped. You see this all the time, especially on players that dunk a lot and with a lot of force, like Jaylen Brown on the Boston Celtics. He constantly has his right middle and ring finger wrapped together from dunking.

I appreciate you taking the time to explain the injuries in a way that doesn’t minimize them. It seems like there’s a tendency in sport to downplay injury and have people return before the body has had enough time to fully recover.

Former NHLer Paul Kariya was in the 2003 Stanley Cup Finals when he was on the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. They were up against the New Jersey Devils. Scott Stevens laid out Kariya with a hit to the head. Kariya went off for two shifts, came back, and scored an iconic goal. Aside from the fact that he shouldn't have returned, the scary thing is he doesn't remember any of it. It was Sidney Crosby's concussion that changed the course of the NHL and how they deal with concussions. We've come along way with dealing with concussions and head injuries in sports.

So regarding your question about ankle/foot injuries: A lot of players, Steph and Lebron included, have found that having too MUCH heel and ankle support actually causes more stress and torque to be imparted to the knees as as a result, actually causing MORE injuries. They found that by reducing the height, they were able to train for both better mobility AND ankle strength, allowing them to make their legs stronger overall without overworking their knees.

A quick google search brings up a couple of studies that found no difference between the frequency of ankle injuries in high-tops and low-tops. (I didn't search beyond that lol) But I played basketball from childhood, through high school college and for a few years after pretty seriously. I always wore low-tops. I never felt comfortable or even safe in a high-top - like my ankle didn't have the natural mobility it needed. Don't get me wrong, I had many rolled ankles, but only twice did I ever have to leave a game because I hurt it that severely and the second of those was shortly after healing a whole leg injury from a motorcycle accident. It seems intuitive to me that you might roll your ankle a little bit more often with lows, but I think the severity of an ankle injury is more likely to be really bad when its natural movement is greatly restricted. I even remember hearing someone else talking about this recently in a video (maybe Dr. Brian Sutterer?) and I was like YES! I always thought that lol.

I worked in retail and we used metal display hooks that were pretty substantial. I walked down an aisle one time and didn't notice one in my peripheral vision until it was too late. I walked my eye (the one with significantly better vision, too) straight into a display hook. I was too afraid to open it until we got to urgent care, but my eye was completely fine. I must have closed it just in time, so it was just a bit sore from the impact. I even went back to work and finished my shift since I was fine. 😂

I can remember at Hoosier Hills Baptist Camp that we were playing slip 'n slide kickball (worst game ever invented) I had this teen slide into me and I fell down on top of him. He said his elbow bent backwards. It hurt for me, but no major injuries.

"You can say 'there's a tear, but we're gonna gauge severity with an MRI' but for some reason they like to keep it a secret." That seems to be a thing across all professional sports. With Aaron Rodgers they referred to his torn Achilles tendon as a "rupture". I remember being so confused and wondering what makes that different from a regular tear.

Doctor Mike your such an amazing youtube doctor! No one makes videos like you as a doctor! The only youtube doctor I trust and it helps me! Doctor Mike im going through a lot this year with my seizure like symptoms and tremors and no one can still diagnose it! I feel like it's covid since I did had covid last year and it could be a long covid issue! Is it possible to make a video or even a mini video about long covid I know there might not be enough info on it or on tremors? No doctors helps me or takes me seriously and I'm getting worse and I've been to ER multiple times doesn't help me either! And my primary care doctor is not helpful either! She makes me hopeless and lets me down! I actually go to a DO now and she helps me a lot and takes me seriously! By watching your video I'm glad I got to know a DO doctor by watching your video and they take me a lot more seriously now! And I'm thankful for watching your video! Doctor Mike helps me more than real life doctors not even my primary care doctor! I wish I could just meet you since I live in New Jersey also or could be my doctor! I really hope you see this I want to meet you one day! 💕

Dr. Mike could you please make a video about eating disorders or how mental challenges can affect that. You could debunk myths? It would mean a lot and I think, obviously you know way more than me about this but, i think it would help a lot of people. I’ve struggled with this and continue to. Thank you for being a great doctor, doctor, and voice.

I ruptured (I don't know if that's the right verb in English) my quadriceps tendon twice, one each knee. It is painful, it is a pain in the ass to recover. That image of both tendons (the patellar one much longer) makes me understand why my injuries were so rare and even more rare to happen twice.

Hey Dr Mike, i actually have some context for the "dehydration" seizure. Now while correct on their own dehydration can not cause a seizure, there are certain disorders that along with dehydration can. However most of these require an original disposition or history of seizures.

Hey I just wanted to point out that spasms can happen with severe dehydration due to the shift of electrolytes and/or cellular fluid. I've seen that already. Sure, normally just a leg spasms, but dehydration combined with a dazed feeling, it could look like an epileptic episode. Could also be a stroke of course, but just from this segment of the video, it is a bit of a long shot to form a diagnose.
@NellFace
@NellFace Жыл бұрын
It's also possible that he has a medical condition that he didn't want publicly disclosed. So I think he had a seizure brought on by dehydration, and he's very aware of his epilepsy (or other disorder.)

Dehydration can also cause people to faint (I think due to low blood pressure) and people often convulse during a fainting spell. Not saying that's definitely what happened here, but certainly plausible.

This is awesome! You should react to equestrian injuries next, I've seen some bad ones. Also a note on the hydrated thing, it's true that you should definitely drink water while doing any exercise. I almost passed out riding my pony in July. Had to half fall, half get off my pony and my instructor had to help me to a bench and feed me freezies.

The Klay Thompson injuries - from the 2019 NBA finals and a 2020 pick-up game - need more focus. Dude literally came back, won a ring with the Dubs, and scored 300 threes (which had only been done by Steph Curry and James Harden). He might have lost a step and his prime, but he definitely hasn't stopped yet.

I know you are being flooded with these comments on IG, but I wanted to post this on YT as well because I love your videos and really appreciated everything I have learned from you. Please read! I think many of us were surprised by your recent story because you have always branded yourself as a person that wants to help people and wants to be balanced in your approach with others. By posting the flag to your story, you were not balanced especially since you have never posted anything about the conflict before (at least not to my knowledge) and surely never posted anything supporting Palestine. All of this has led many to believe that you support the Israeli government and their treatment of Palestine. You have also been silent about the violence the Palestinian people have consistently faced by the Israeli government. Most of us probably assumed you didn't want to pick a side or even reference the conflict out of not wanting to be divisive. Especially based on your beautiful video on Ukraine. If you would say anything about the conflict, I would've thought it would be for peace. We understood. But now, we don't understand at all. It hurts to see the lack of support for Palestine especially since they are an incredibly vulnerable population with less money, resources, and power socio-politically. There is very little public support for Palestine because most people are too afraid to disagree with Israel, no one wants to be called anti-Semitic for not standing with Israel. But there is no consequence for not standing with Palestine, so once again Palestine has the disadvantage. I really hope you at least make it clear that all you want is peace between the people, and make efforts to balance your platform. I also hope the people that love you and have supported your channel will also give you the courtesy of awaiting a response and not pass too harsh a judgment without more info. Too often on social media we don't give people the benefit of the doubt and we make A LOT of assumptions. Thank you if you read through this! I hope peace comes for both lands.
