Hey everyone, Dr. Sandal here with another reaction! My social media manager was really excited for me to check out Ren’s 'Sick Boy' after hearing about all the drama and emotions surrounding it. In this reaction, I dive into the powerful message Ren conveys about the frustrations within our medical system. From the dismissiveness of chronic illness to the profit-driven motives in healthcare, Ren's lyrics really hit home. Have you or a loved one experienced the same struggles? Let’s unpack this together. Share your thoughts below and let me know what you’d like to see next!

FYI: Ren was MISDIAGNOSED for like 7 yrs. having been treated for mental health issues without understanding the source. Finally, a diagnosis of Lyme's disease (apparently rare in the U.K.) came when he saved $ to go to a DR in Brussels; by that time his brain was inflamed and his nervous system was a mess and was in almost constant pain. There's much more to the story but you get the gist.

We always blame the doctors when something doesn't resolve for us. I went two years undiagnosed with lupus so I know the frustrations of dealing with a chronic illness and dealing with some doctors who sometimes don't care. However, on the flipside, the doctors who do care and try to help their patients are severely handicapped by health insurance restrictions. They want to order tests but insurance companies dictate if they can due to cost or necessity. It's a travesty on both ends honestly. Love your insightful reactions❤🇺🇸🌵

this is good for someone to share a balanced view, i dont think ren blames 100% the medical industry, but the frustration of his (and yours) illnesses can feel like its 'they are just not helping me' and to therefore blame the system. dont take me wrong ive watched many of rens shorts from around the time and there is definitely an issue with 'treatment for profit' which is what ren highlights and really does need to be resolved, as it has created generations of 'permanent sick' people on 1000s medications daily that makes HUGE profits for big pharma. i think many of the doctors who subscribe these medications really DO have the best intentions for their patients, but they are held back and restricted by the system

I've been going through it for years and the thing is if you don't kick up a fuss then you just get abandoned but if you do kick up a fuss and demand answers then you become perceived as 'problematic' because you're rocking the boat!

I was sick, on the couch not able to function after having a baby at 41. I saw every “ist” in the medical community. They just put me in the category of she gave birth at 41. After I exhausted every ist, they were going to send me to a psychiatrist! Thank God, I was doing research! Finally I found a lab where I could send them blood and get my own tests. The result? I had Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis! My TSH was sky high! I solved my problem myself (Oh, and one of my “ist” doctors was an endocrinologist!) This was 20 yrs ago. I thank God that there are doctors out there like you, that treat the whole patient! You are AWESOME! Oh, and your reaction videos are GREAT! Keep getting the word out that there are alternatives to traditional medicine❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I applaud you for being one of the few doctors who was able to make the connection of the initial part of the song being about the medical aspect to the second part which goes into the greed aspect. That’s an issue in most businesses but just becomes more problematic in the medical field because you are dealing with people and not products. Unfortunately patients are often treated as such, I had my own experience recently. I said this in your initial reaction but I will say it again, the world needs more doctors like you. Many, many more.

Great reaction I really appreciate the fact that you and your colleagues are seeing and trying to address the problems of the medical system. Another commenter had said they didn’t think the system could be changed because of the amount of money and power the people in charge of the systems have. It is my belief that it can and will change for the better and it starts with Doctors like you who see the problems and then are willing to “ think outside the box “ to address the problems. Every journey starts with the first step. Again great reaction appreciate what you are doing.

Wonderful reaction. Thank you! Your compassion, empathy, and frustration come through so strongly. It would take too many paragraphs to describe all the chronic conditions I've dealt with over the years (age 63), and am still dealing with, such as dysautonomia and chronic GI issues (gastoparesis and more) related to trauma and C-PTSD. My gastroenterologist blew me off after my recent colonoscopy when I told her I don't want to go back on medication. I'm trying to heal myself and manage my symptoms naturally. She wanted no part of it. I'm having difficulty finding a new GI doctor who thinks outside the box as you do. I was misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder and given psych meds for 20 years that I didn't need and which didn't really help. More recent diagnoses include D.I.D. and ADHD and 100% probability of autism. What's frustrating for me, being on disability in the US, is Medicare will not cover 99% of alternative healing modalities or supplements. It's getting more and more difficult to find mainstream practitioners who accept Medicare and even fewer who accept Medicaid. Perhaps that's why a large percentage of those with chronic health issues in the US are low income? Thank you for these videos. I don't know if you realize how important the work you are doing is for those of us with certain challenges. 💖🙋‍♀️🙏

great reaction!! i think you are spot on with your commentary through this. ren has spoken many times about the 'healthcare for profit' system that we currently work under, and the millions of people on medication daily 100% makes a LOT of profit, its a huge business (did i read that big pharma makes more profit than the military industrial complex? i cant remember, its probably close tho, i wouldnt be surprised at all!)

A current frustration I have is how it's become impossible to see even your primary care physician without waiting weeks or even months. What's the point of even having primary care physicians if you can't get an appointment with them? And then to have to wait those weeks or months just to be told you have to see a specialist who is also booked solid for months? When, exactly, is the medical system actually treating you through all of this?

I'll put it this way... the last time I saw my main doc she said "I'm sorry every time you come in it seems to be bad news" - my response was "no stress, I only come in when I feel like something is REALLY wrong cuz y'all don't care otherwise" I've seen probably 20+ docs in the past 14 years (military family, we move a lot) and out of those, I have trusted/appreciated TWO.

Thank you for your reaction to this song. It was more thought out and insightful than many others. I have had an issue since 2008 and the doctors I saw about it didn't seen to want to help. I went to a dermatologist and this doctor is actually trying to get to something that will work. I appreciate this doctor. For many years, I have said I would rather see a dentist a hundred time before I want to see a doctor.

I am 70 years old now, but in my 30's I went to my dr. Thinking i had a very bad case of the flu. I didn't. Test after test after test. Dr after dr after dr I was diagnosed with Chronic fatigue syndrome. Basically it means they didn't know what it was so they then treat the symptoms with drugs. Needless to say, i just got worse and worse. One of the reasons that Ren and his music resonates with me. I finally, found a holistic dr that spent time with me and discovered the root cause of my health problems. Some of the damage done from the years of not finding help will never be undone, but I am so thankful for that dr and his dedication. I was able to function and get back to a "normal" life. Keep up your good work and keep helping those who come to you for help. Oh, and keep up the Ren reactions! I love them! ❤

Thank you Dr. Sandal for this honest and clear reaction. Having been born with severe disabilities caused by thalidomide (no, I never received any compensation, the MD who my mother was seeing never prescribed the drug as he had some samples he received from the pharmaceutical company which he gave to my mother, unaware of the effects if taken during the first three months), yes I know how true so much of what Ren's say is true. Of course there are so many professionals who really do care about people suffering from diseases and disabilities. Six years ago my mother started showing signs that she was experiencing health issues, diagnosis: age related problems. Only after a long process and the long bills from private consultations it was revealed she was suffering from dementia and there was a tumour located close to the colon. I tried to do my best to provide her with what could easy her suffering. She passed away last 3rd of July. Greetings from Portugal and thank for your honest reaction.

7.45 in and its so interesting you saying about doctors outside of the mainstream because it wasnt until Ren was given a chance at experimental stem cell treatment that the lyme was brought under control for him. He had been misdiagnosed for so many years but even once they knew, the damage was so extensive that conventional treatment was only alleviating the worst of it. Not resolving it as you say. This is such a fantastic reac im so glad i found it

What I should say, is the UK health service is not so much about profit, unlike the American system. But, the UK national health service is cash starved, nurses and doctors overworked, so, corners are cut and patients not given the service, especially when it comes to mental health So the rens experience in the UK is likely more cost cutting, than profiting, but the net effect is the same

I am in no way comparing my problems with Rens. But I was operated on for a slipped disc. That was not until I demanded to see a specialist. Before that I had been complaining to my own physician about strong pains in my neck for at least 6 months. Then when I started to feel numbness in my left hand and arm together with the pains migrating into my arm and chest area, he finally send me to someone that could tell me that a disc had slipped between my C5 and C6 vertebra. It took another 18 months for the hospital before they could do the operation. Now my nerves are so damaged I have no feeling in 3 of my fingers on my left hand and I loose grib on things so I have to be aware not to drop stuff out of my hand all the time.

I don't know a single person who hasn't had bad experiences with the medical system though thankfully not to the degree of what Ren suffered. He actually had a doctor tell him to get a hobby It's a weird system in so many ways. If you don't have insurance, you're really out in the cold. But my experience after getting insurance was that I felt like I was being passed around so everyone could get a piece of that money. Five months out of work, four different hospitals, and not one could share information, they all had to run their own tests. Scaring me with the possibility of cancer. All for what turned out to be a cyst I see a nurse practitioner now because I trust her

One of my colleagues hat to tooth issue and went to Dentist and was shocked as to the price so chewed Aspirin and waited to trip back to UK for dentist treatment. I could get all the pain meds i want! Yet i get talked down too when i ask for a reduction in pain meds! Seems every appointment i have X minutes to talk... no where near the time needed to explain things! So... I NEVER get to describe the full picture of where im at! Ive reduced my own medicine prescriptions so low they only work 1/4 the time! And thats MY FAULT!!! Grrrrrr.... etc.... so on so on.... Anywho... not that you, or anyone else cares! Afraid I got my doctorate in Philosophy!😂 Highest degree on the planet and not helpful and not alot of money!!😂 still my passion so u know. That being said, the level of true MD's that actually listen anymore is non existent. Even for those with higher understanding of the medical world and intellect! It really is awful. How can I focus on finding a MD that really know and is comfortable in where the system is and chooses to meet a person at that individual level. I wasn't misdiagnosed, but I was prescribed benzodiazepines until I reached approx. 7mg of Alprazolam daily for years and yes, as I became addicted I was asking for more, but the absence of the individual interest of the doctor and even through it was quite obvious that I am on a doses that are quite high and I am dealing with medication which is not supposed to be taken daily and especially not for years, it still kept coming until I reached a point when I was googling how old I am (no joke). Then I kinda took all of my strenght and went for a rehab, switching Xanax for Diazepam, starting on 100mg of diazepam daily slowly going to 20-30mg, but it was a tough fight. Not judging the whole system, some doctors have individual approaches and really care about the wellbeing of their patients and some don't. And if you stumble upon a one that doesn't and won't identify it fast enough, it can indeed get messy. Glad that you took the reaction the way you took it and you earned yourself a fan, keep it up! ♥
