My immunology professor in college actually donated 60% of her liver as she wound up a match for her alcoholic brother who was on the literal verge of death, without the transplant. They will both end up with 100% of a liver after they finish regenerating which is pretty cool, and also pretty bizarre to think about! She ended up saving his life, and she said she would do it again in a heartbeat if able!

@Shaun The Good Doctor i think the professor was a little more empathetic than that (the guy being her brother and all) and didn't think "well he'll start drinking again anyway so I should just let him die." Again, she and her doctor knew her brother better than a rando in the youtube comments.

@@purplewine7362 Here in india, for a liver transplant to happen the patients have to undergo no alcohol for atleast 6months as part of treatment as well as to ensure they don't damage somebody's liver too. They are not allowed a transplant of alcohol is found in their blood anytime during this 6 months and they have to wait another 6months. Pretty sure they'll be having such measures in the US.

9:54 Jimmy actually explained this during a Podcast/Interview. He said that prior to the challenge he slept in a coffin for a few nights to get used too it. He said he had his team practice burying and digging up the Coffin, i think he said if he genuinely needed to get out they could get him out in 3 minutes. There was apparently a Medical team on stand by throughout the entire video, and they did radio checks in with him every hour, he said if they ever dialed him with the Talkie. And he didn’t answer they would immediately dig him up.

3:15 just felt like mentioning it Back in my competitive simracing days, I had a friend whose shoulder was like... very prone to dislocating due to how stretched the things holding it in were, he had an operation, it helped short term a bit. The guy told me that at the point where he was, it doesnt hurt anymore, its just uncomfortable. He literally dislocated his shoulder by sneezing once... the best part is that he was still a great driver

As a swim instructor, I can attest to the chlorine effects on skin. Just recently I started working 6 days a week with 3 of them being double shifts, and our entire staff has started developing skin problems due to a slight shift in the chemical balance in the water. Thankfully the problem has been fixed and we've found methods to help with the drying and rashes on our skin.

@@hollyschmidt9316 I had a similar experience, when I was 9 or 8 I was training for state level swimming. I usually had to wake up at 3 am get to school at 4 and then swim til 7. Its not like we had a good coach either cuz he would beat up several people, infact he made me race with some dudes who had won several competitions and he made me race with them. I (ofc) lost and he slapped me. When the championships came closer not only were we swimming for 3 hours in the morning but we swam 4 extra hours, and it was torture for me. i still love swimming but that coach has ruined it for me since iv developed a mild allergy to chlorine

Fun fact: You can actually sell your skeleton! We had one in our biology classroom in school, and the backstory behind it was basically, that the donor needed money in life, so he sold his skeleton to be used as a display model after death, which also explains the relatively low price: They cant be used as transplants.

For the under water one, my main concern is without a regulator and pressurized air bottles it's possible that the vast majority of the gasses in there will become co2 and nitrogen as it's possible for some the air being added to just bubble out from the bottom decreasing the oxygen concentration leading to co2 and or nitrogen poisoning. Probably one of the most dangerous stunts he has done especially without monitoring equipment in there with him. It would be impossible for him to determine if he was getting nitrogen narcosis until he drowned as it feels like being drunk but is much more subtle than the effects of alcohol

I suspect something related to the atmospheric content with only oxygen coming in with no ventilation was likely why he got nauseous, not the water around him, but he'd have no indication of why he's feeling that way, sea sickness may just have been his easiest reference point.

Re: Asylums "This is what used to happen 200 years ago" Well, it's more like 50-60 years ago. One of the most famous cases of widespread abuse occurring in "asylums" or mental institutions was Willowbrook, which was exposed back in 1972. So that's only 49 years ago. And there were many institutions that were closed way later than that. The history of the abuse of mental patients is RECENT.

It is technically legal but the prices are so low that nobody is willing to sell their organs. The idea behind making it legal was to prevent a black market forming for body parts and if you think of it, it’s pretty genius. Although it is not like you can just hand out your organs to random people, only 30% of liver, one kidney and 2 grams of bone marrow can be donated or sold by alive people and organs from dead people can’t be sold. The whole process should be done by the “Iranian society of organ donation” and closely tracked by authorities. And it takes several months to prevent people selling organs for quick money. And only scientist and people that have medical files approved by the “ISOD” which show they are desperately in need of organ transplants can purchase organs.

The 2 drummers I had in mind were Dave Lombardo from Slayer who is efficient and fast with his playing and Brian Chippendale from Lightning Bolt who plays strongman style and puts his whole body behind it I’m also happy if it was more general and broad so it reaches more people like talking about which instrument benefits which part of the body or mind and what genre of music does to the body and mind Keep up the great videos Doctor Mike.

My dad did competitive skiing for almost 30 years and he had the biggest tibialis anterior muscle I’ve ever seen. I also did competitive skiing and running and once got an inflammation in this muscle from training to hard and had to go and get cortisone injections to get rid of the inflammation. Probably one of the most painful things I’ve ever done. Also had to do a lot of rehab stretching for months afterwards.

As psych ward security I have to say almost all large facilities adult and child alike still use restraints. It's a big issue when a hospital says no restraints at all and causes an unsafe workplace when there are no deterrents. We shouldn't be abusing people but locking a violent person to their bed for an hour or two only is a good way to jot put other in danger.

I don’t think that is the best way to not put others in danger, in the hospital I went to we had a small room called “the quiet room” (sounds like a horror movie) and is a padded room with on chair and they would stay there for like and hour and a half. But speaking from experience seeing them get restrained and tied up is traumatic for other patients, I know this is probably different in places but they would do it in front of everyone if they did, and obviously the patient would not comply easily so they did use force. Then they would take them to the quiet room and give them a big shot in the butt to knock them out… scary. Still afraid of being held down now and scared when people start to show aggressive behavior
