Vitamin D is so vital, I helped someone who is biracial and has a darker skin. Over the years he looked so pale and wasn't feeling good and it got worse and worse. I knew about the problem with dark skin and beeing in a cold climate, where you cover your skin constanly, that you would have very low vitamin d levels. So I told him he started high dosis of vitamin d3 combined with magnesium, which if you have been depleted, you can't take high dosis of vitamin d3 in your body in a healty way. After 4 weeks he felt so much better, looked so much more vibrant it is so wonderful, he thanked me so much and I was just so happy to see him healthy and happy😊

I seriously thought something was always wrong with my brain. I'm almost 25 and since early teenage years I've always been moderately anxious, moderately depressed, somewhat anti-social, lethargic, brain fogged. 3 weeks ago I quit marijuana and switched from 3 large cups of coffee per day to 3 cups of green tea, and I finally feel like a normal human being with a healthy brain. I wake up refreshed and in a good mood, I no longer feel like a zombie after the work day, no more morning nausea, less mood fluctuations, and I no longer need to sedate myself to go to sleep.

I have been with my neuro psychiatrist for over 10 years and I sat in awe throughout this session because it felt like I was sitting with her. (Saw a neuro psychologist for 5 years) When Dr Amen said that we shouldn't be seen as our diagnosis, that warmed my heart because that's what my psychiatrist always tells me. She'll be like, "I know you so well Dieketseng, I'd be a best seller if I had to write about each of my patients because I know them even when they aren't sick" I can't wait to show her this. From the moment Dr Amen spoke and till the end, it highlighted and reminded me of my mental health journey with my neuro psychiatrist, and how blessed I am to have her. She "fixed" me - of course I had to put in my work too. I do believe if she didn't care and was a "typical" mental health professional, I wouldn't be here. I am going to send her this episode to remind her what brilliant work she has been doing. Even on days she may think ots not enough, she can return to this episode and see that someone out there shares the same values when it comes to being a mental health professional. And I bet she will be happy to reiterate that she's been telling me to take care of my brain. The "I told you so" card is coming. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Even if you wanted to still drink coffee, you know whatever but what I don’t understand was why you were drinking 5 to begin with thats way too much that’ll make you sick. I mean apparently it wasn’t making you sick in your stomach but you made it clear that it was in your head though. I only drink 1 coffee. Tbh I don’t even drink coffee everyday. But still you never should have more than 1 in a day that’s really really bad. Besides everyone’s knows coffee isn’t good for you to an extent anyway. Just like how people say 1 glass of alcohol can be healthy for you and helps with certain things but of course if we have too much we get intoxicated and get upset stomach and vomit. 1 glass can help with good health anymore than that then it’s poison to us. Coffee is literally the same thing.

One died of an accident in her nineties, and the other of a dog bite when she was 98 years old. My mother and father drank Ethiopian organic coffee daily from they were teenagers until they passed away in their eighties. I have their medical record, and they had no chronic disease. However, the coffee they drank was real organic Ethiopian COFFEE. As far as I know, my ancestors and family who drank coffee daily do not have any debilitating diseases, including brain disease. Drinking pure coffee on a daily basis has a lot of benefits.

The problem is there's one of him & the average person can't go to him & afford his services. The rest of the medical field just wants to prescribe a pill & make their cut doing it. Our health care industry isn't about health or making you healthy. They manage symptoms & keep you coming back for another pill or test.

Brenna Barkley. Find yourself a Bio-identical hormone MD. They are specifically trained for diagnosing and treating your hormones on a more natural level. I am blessed to have a bio-identical MD and she sends my script to a compound lab and they make my hormones specifically set for me. I get them tested now every 6 to 9 months, depending upon my levels at the time. Working with her, I have been able to drop over 70 lbs. I feel better than I felt at the age of 50. I am now 67. Look online and Google bio-identical doctors in your area. Many chiropractors are trained in this also, but unless they have an MD degree, they can not prescribe but can definitely direct u to someone who can.

Sam, think for a moment. If you met a man on the street who was telling you all the things you already knew, but don't like to say out loud, would you engage with that man like he was an expert, or shun that man like a hobo yelling at trash bins? Be honest. Think about what that means, "so many 'truths' that we all know but don't want to face". That means he's using common information to build false reference. That's a pretty big red flag. As a therapist... you should probably be able to recognize this. Just sayin. And if you read that book, God decided to stop sending things a couple thousand years ago. Love this episode and Dr. Amen’s work to disrupt the industry. Healing my own cPSTD and understanding my own brain after all the traumatic experiences I’ve experienced in my childhood and got diagnosed with ADHD at 33 years old. It all started my deep inner healing work which turned my life upside down for the better. Although, it was not fun at first. Knowing what I know now.. I’m happy and grateful for my pain is a gift. It brought me back my joy, creativity, peace, freedom from negative emotions and it’s still a blessing to have my brain working hard to protect me all these years. 🧠❤️🎁 We need more of Dr. Amen in the world. One of my doctors dismissed my experience and made me feel like crap when I told him about my trauma. He told me to move on. WTF! He’s so old school and judgmental. That was it for me. I had to use my brain to do my squirrel work and research the condition I am in and feel to heal the pain that manifested in chronic illness that affected everything in my life.

Unfortunately, this isn't covered under insurance. I got a quote for $5,900 in my state of Illinois. This is way out of my budget as a single Mom and on one income. It seems outrageous, but understand all the logistics behind it. I've been in and out of doctors' offices for years and years to help me and put on all many different meds that I decided to give up on doctors and meds. While I'm still suffering inside and trying to be my own advocate and trying different supplements, meditate, and eat better, Doing all this has gotten me to a better place than I was when on different meds that made you feel numb and useless. However, I wish services like this were easily affordable without having another car payment. Our healthcare needs to get better for mental health. I'm hopeful it can when we have services, technology, and information like this coming to light🙏 Thank you, Dr. Amen for all that you are doing in the world to make it a better place.

Great podcast - I learned so much here! As someone with PCOS, I was happy to hear it brought up, but I think it's important to mention that, since it is a syndrome, there are 3 qualifying factors to be diagnosed. The individual must match two of the three: - Small cysts on the ovaries -irregular periods -hormonal imbalance Just mentioning this in case it helps other women who may suspect they have PCOS.

But I disagree….thank u for such amazing and enlightening content

it's very concerning to me how many dysfunctional people try to give others advice on mental health and life. I've seen it a shocking amount of times now. shouldn't all mental health counselors be held to a higher standard? ideally married or in a healthy relationship, ideal diet on lock, workout schedule with years of consistency, excellent social life, healthy mentally, life based on pursuit of worthy values, well liked, etc.. and that's just the bare minimum not even factoring in their ideological approach to "fixing someone". at least by overcoming your own problem (anorexia) you've displayed high value behavior and increased your ability to help others. that being said I hope you understand the importance of your job and what kind of standard you need to hold yourself to.

@@chrishayes5755 you don't need to be a perfect human as a therapist. You need to be a great profesional. Because the "advice" that you speak of is not rooted on personal experience but on science, research and decades of studies. So, it doesn't matter if your therapist is single or doesn't workout. What matters is their capacity to see what's the problem and its causes, to create good treatment plans, to be able to hold a therapeutic space, to have tools and knowledge and to be always studying and actualizing themselves. I don't care about my therapist personal life if they have great profesional skills.

This was fascinating, what an amazing man. I have one question though. He states red meat causes brain ageing. But I've just gone through multiple published studies and can't find any that prove this. The closest was the studies show people with alzheimers often have high iron levels, but this is a correlation, not causation. High iron may be a result of the processes that cause alzheimers, not the other way around. Veggies like spinach are high in iron, so why blame red meat? This is the same style of assumption that mistakenly blamed cholesterol for heart disease when it was actually sugar.
@TheCinder24 Жыл бұрын

I find it interesting that it says on age 2 I believe of the Bible that God made vegetation for us. All animals have feelings and I personally don’t think we should eat them. We don’t have carnivore teeth. Not to mention that the way they are treated is beyind horrific. Everything is about money. I believe someome one day decided to sell meat just to make money and then we got used to it. It’s such a shame that ever happened. Everyone who eats meat should have to go see the conditions these animals are living in, well if you want to call it living. It’s wrong and sociopathic. We all would freak out if our dogs were treated that way and actually they are in some countries. I saw a video where a cop pulled over a truck and it was full of dogs. They were all bound by their feet and put inside bags, and when the woman cop opened the big sliding door in the back of the truck, not one dog, made a sound. And they said that these people just picked up random dogs anywhere they found them whether they were peoples pets or stray dogs or whatever, and they were being taken to slaughter. So what’s the difference between that and a cow all animals have feelings. Just sayin

Probably blaming red meat because if you take a random American who eats too much of something, chances are excellent that it *isn't* going to be spinach 😂 I realize the pace with things like this podcast would be a nightmare if they stopped to do full citations every time they reference a study, and I realize tracking down full citations to add them to a video or channel after the fact could be a full time job for more than one employee, but I can't help wondering if there isn't a way to at least leave an audience a few breadcrumbs to help them track down studies and facts and theories on their own to explore questions like this - because you've asked a really great one.

So, I stopped counseling and went back to business and helping people through coaching while learning about neuroscience to put some type of science into what I do to be more effective. I love this information from Dr Amen and how perfectly he summarized the mental health industry, and the insanity, his intentional use of that word, of how there’s no physical science behind diagnosis.
