When you said we don't teach our children about skincare, I could relate so much. ☹️ My mum is an amazing, educated and working woman who has taught me a lot of hacks but unfortunately she's not very concerned about her skin so didn't teach me as well. I went through a tomboy phase in my teens so didn't care to educate myself (also was busy with entrance exam preparation) lest I could prevent stretch marks and pigmentation. Now I'll have to treat them. ☹️

Dr V pls DO NOT BE INTIMIDATED by big brands messaging you. In recent video u said you're not going discuss products you don't like so as not to be "negative". Very unfortunate decision because this is how we learn when you point out what makes a product good & bad for SOC - you remove the confusion. Continue to SPEAK YOUR TRUTH based on science & with kindness. Maybe then brands will make better products for SOC. I appreciate your "love letters" & learn better when you inform of what's worth buying, what should be avoided & why. ❤️

Stretch marks are actually caused by the tearing of the skin. So there is no way to remove them. You can only improve the appearance of them. The only thing that seems to work at all is palmers cocoa butter cream.

Thanks for all your information for POC Dr. V! I would have to disagree though as I think most black parents absolutely teach their children skin care particularly, to prevent being "ashy." Ashy is a complete NO in the black community. I noticed stretch marks on the medial side of my knees during puberty. I thought it was so weird.
@so.many.obstacles
@so.many.obstacles 3 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. Even when I was living with my grandma, at times we had to use Crisco to not be ashy. We were not allowed to be dry/ashy at all. We would literally get yelled at for being ashy. I didn’t get much instructions on stretch marks because my mon have five children and she doesn’t have any stretch marks. She’s naturally hairless and no stretch marks. Meanwhile I have no children and have all the stretch marks. I also spent about $6000 getting laser hair removal on my whole body from lip to toe 😫

Knowledge really is empowering!! I have stretch marks on my upper thigh from rapid growth and for the longest time I didn't even know what they were. Growing up in an Indian household, no one taught me these things and skincare isn't ever a topic that comes up unfortunately. So I just called my mystery scars "tiger stripes". I didn't even notice them during my teens but one day in my 20s I saw them and of course it seemed to appear out of thin air and I thought it was so strange. Once I realized they were stretch marks, I was perplexed because most sources of information out there tell us that stretch marks mostly occur due to pregnancy (this is what I believed for the longest time). I later realized they can also occur from puberty and that definitely helped ease my anxiety about my stretch marks. Videos like this with people sharing their stretch mark origin story also help normalize all of this so thank you!! I know I will definitely be passing on this information to my children one day.

I got severe stretch marks during puberty, they were horrible bright red lines throughout my thighs. My pediatrician told me it was because i needed to lose weight (was around 120 lbs). It destroyed my confidence and i refused to wear shorts or skirts. It would of helped knowing it was somewhat common a that i could help it. I was so relieved when they turned white because they were less noticeable.

After seeing 2 videos from hand models I learned how to constantly lotion. One also said washing dishes, or at least without gloves, is a no. Most of the time i wash my hands I’m at home. Instead of drying, I rub in a drop of aloe Vera gel and top with a hand cream. Because of their recycling program, my choice is helping hands x LUSH. I also loved to put a slightly excessive amount of cuticle oil at night, no more hangnails, and paraffin is a nice treat. Hands also get some of the heaviest UV exposure, so spf!

Derma rollers really don’t work getting a derma pen and using that does It also works is getting some organic coffee grinding it yourself at home and using some extra virgin olive oil and scrubbing your body down with that in the shower twice a week you could do it more if you want but twice a week helps with stretch marks and you wanna make sure your olive oil is from one place Not from several places so look on the back of the bottle and make sure it originates from one place that way you know it’s actual real olive oil and not fake olive oil

Thank you for the great tips! I’m literally absorbing everything you say LOL! I just adore you and everything you stand for! Will see if my daughter’s allergy to nuts would be able to use sweet almond oil in her her skin. I recently bought one from Mountain Rose herbs, a bit on the pricey side only because they are a small company and they’re organic, however if anyone knows an organic sweet almond oil brand that is worth trying let me know.

Dr V this is so informative. Are you able to shed any light on cellulite? Also, I asked yesterday and via previous videos comments section...please may you carry out a review of Environ Products and whether their products are suitable for skin of colour. Thank you in advance 🧡 Also thanks for recommending using the numbing cream. I usually roll the derma-roller directly onto my skin. Its awfully painful

Dr. V (unrelated topic) but will you please review NIOD brand?! It’s the upscale version to the Ordinary. I feel like some of their formulations are going to be much better at tackling aging and hyperpigmentation???

Unrelated to this video but I was hoping to get your opinion. I have tiny bumps all over my forehead but I don’t know if it is closed comedones or fungal acne but I’ve had it forever and it makes me insecure. How do I identify these bumps?

Thank so you much for this video Dr. V! I was hoping you would touch on the topic of laser removal for stretch marks, I’ve done a few sessions and now I’m dealing with hyperpigmentation on the area 😔 it is very frustrating to see how a treatment that’s supposed to improve the skin ends up making it worst. I was wondering if you have any recommendations, would really appreciate it! ❤️

Hi Dr V, new subbie here! Came across you tonight and subbed straight away as not only are you credible, clear and concise, you have such a warm, friendly presence on camera. I’m not even SOC, I’m Caucasian but I know I can take so much from this channel in terms of skin health. I came across you when looking up recommended collagen powders. I’d like to start taking it in order to help smooth the appearance of my stubborn cellulite which has been around since my teens. Would you consider doing an in-depth video on cellulite? It’s a bug bear of mine as I have managed to slowly and sensibly lose excess weight, yet the cellulite still remains and I can now see that it wasn’t necessarily the fat that was causing the appearance, rather the ‘mesh’ underneath the skin has broken down. Of course the lymph circulation and fascia all impact too... I’m sure many others would be most grateful for you to break down ways in which we can support the skin to help the appearance of cellulite! Thank you 😊
