They had no major sources of calcium (and maybe there were other issues) and the sodium:water ratio was lower than the minimum sodium:water ratio in pee (and other excrement) for normal ranges. Probably chloride too. Also lack of vegetables. Well, the guidelines want to undercut the homeostatic sodium:water ratio anyway, but at some point that has to stop right (conservation of mass)? So many organisations don't even put a minimum on salt.

Nutritionally speaking I'm not advocating for any specific diet either. The things that you mentioned are in my opinion very sane and healthy. Eating more fish, some non-red lean meat, dairy etc will likely not worsen it either (if taking care of not overconsuming sat. fats). Why I advocate for a vegan lifestyle (including diet) is purely due to Ethics. So in this regard I think you represented some part of the vegan movement correctly (they say its the healthiest, which is just plain false since there is no robust evidence to support that particular position), but its also important to keep in mind that what differentiates vegans, is their ethical approach. Every other "diet camp" just cares about nutrient values etc. for maximizing health and whatnot, vegans like myself dont have this as primary motivation.

I prefer the perspective of colin campbell, and others, plant based is the best diet, with a minimal amount of animal foods, so, if we extrapolate, the maximum health for the human ape would be zero animal products. Even all of them are very cautios with the term vegan, precisely because it is no logical to eat based on ethics. In ideal conditions, theres is no nutriente we can't get from plant sources or our microbiota. The difference among individuals are because the different way of being sick beacuse of all the interventions since some decades ago since the very moment of the birth, imho, as the fundamental cause. Anyway, I think that we have some margin to eat some animal foods without detrimental results in the long term, as diet is a percentage of the health and longevity outcomes.

I agree with meat from factory farming is not ethical. We can argue that even killing animal that had "good life" is not ethical, but I don't see any issues with eggs, dairy from "happy" animals who have good life and also I don't see any problem with sea food like shrimp for example.. So I don't think that you have to be vegan to have healthy, balanced diet and not hurting animals at the same time. In fact I think there is a lot of people who have goats, sheeps, chickens and who also have their own plant plant foods and who even kill and eat meat from old animals. They love them, they take good care of them and environment as well. They are simply good, kind people and yet they don't need label "vegan" and vise versa I would say most vegans even vegans who are vegans because they don't want to eat animals are not so helpful because they just buy plant food from mass production that is horrible for environment and animals as well. Who eat plant food shipped from all over the world. Simply in their simple mind they think how helpful they are, but average organic farmer who is not "vegan" probably does much more good for people and the whole ecosystem..

Sane and rational. So what I'm understanding is that you focus on vegetables, fruits, berries, legumes, grains, nuts, a little olive ol and canola oil and you don't restrict yourself too much with things like x portions of cruciferous vegetables per day, x grams of blueberries, sweet potatoes and such? It kinda looks like it at least. I think I have to re-consider my approach since adherence is not great, so this really helps. Kinda need these reminders every now and then to loosen it up a bit. Thanks for sharing and the ideas!

Great video, I am pretty similar in the sense of whole foods, lots of tasty plant plates, bit of protein everyday in form of lentil/tofu/nuts and I do not count calories or macros or anything like that. I use olive oil and Tahini as my "oil/fat" for dressings, and the only difference is I have a bit of a sweet tooth. I love a bit of chocolate (usually super dark, often 100%, but sometimes with coconut sugar/dates) and I eat a lot of fruit, especially dates. Same with bread, always super whole grain, sourdough type stuff, even any crackers I have are whole grain. I also eat when I am hungry, which is usually between 1 and two meals a day, and rarely eat late. I take the same supplements, haha, but I also take a decent amount of herbs (nettle, moringa, turmeric+pepper, and triphala) which I find make me feel a lot better. I also buy organic, primarily for the environment (less synthetic fertilizer and thus less nitrous oxide in the atmosphere, and the pesticide potentials to harm), but I also find I get a little sick if I eat non-organic everyday. Honestly, I get bloated, I get runny noses, I just feel more pain, cloudiness, stiffness, etc, and I don't believe it is a placebo effect because I really would not mind spending a little less and I have also seen the health data not showing any great differences. I am vegan though, but that is an ethical and environmental standpoint rather than a health one.

Interesting that you've added mussels. I'm an almost vegetarian for moral reasons, more animal suffering than environment. I'll eat mussels, clams, scallops, because I don't believe they suffer. I'll occasionally eat other seafood if it's made for me.

Can you tell us what you put in your protein shake? What kind of protein powder do you use?

I was 18months salt free and was feeling cramps quite regularly. After reading online most info pointing out to dangers of no salt diet I started adding about 1.5g a day to my diet, my cramps seem to have disappeared mostly as well as headaches but might be coincidence. Whole plant based diet and lots of fruits. Are you 100% salt free? No dangers after all?

If you sweat alot better have some salt. You could add beans to breakfast and add cinnamon. Instead of protein shake you could make soy milk but do not throw away the crushed beans, and cinnamon to taste.

Gill I too am not convinced that organic provides any health benefit. You should look into the environmental impact of organic vs conventional, as that may be a reason to switch as it’s one of your goals.

Isnt organic worse for the environment, as it takes up more land? I try to avoid it mainly since here in Germany organic food is regulated to not be fortified - yet I want my B12 and Calcium in that juicy soy milk >

@@toxx1220 The crop yields per unit of land are now about the same for both organic and chemical agriculture. Organic has the advantage of not polluting waterways with fertilizer runoff, as one very significant environmental advantage. There are many other advantages in terms of soil health and worker safety.
@toxx122019 күн бұрын
@@patblack2291 I'm not into yield sizes at all, but just asking perplexity AI for peer reviewed evidence got me these two studies: "A global meta-analysis of yield stability in organic and conservation agriculture", Knapp & Hejden 2018 "The crop yield gap between organic and conventional agriculture", de Ponti et al 2012 It suggests yields can be lower 2-34%, depending on food type etc. Also "chemical" aka. conventional farming is to my knowledge not bound to farming one certain way. This means one could develop solutions for synthesized fertilizers, or soil health. Meanwhile organic forbids certain things, and manure in Germany is also an issue for ground water.. AFAIK here in the EU regulations keep workers safe (as long as the regulations arent cheated on by criminals).

Nice job with legume consumption. This is something I am being more mindful of lately and think it is helping stabilize my weight and regularity.

Looks good. You should try mixing some cocoa powder or melted chocolate with your oatmeal though. The taste is incredible. Add some sweetener to bring out the chocolate taste. It'll change your life if you enjoy dark chocolate

Thanks for sharing! One question I have is are the algae oil supplements necessary if you eat seafood occasionally? I only say this because I have read somewhere a scary thing for men is too much omega-3s can cause prostate cancer unless my knowledge is outdated. I take the other supplements you take with the addition of 400mg Magnesium Glycinate at night. Thanks for the video!

I don't vary my meals too much, but the meals I do have are very diverse. I could even try some new recipes to prepare the same ingredients differently, but I mostly pick the familiar and easy recipes out of laziness. I could probably add some more legumes or seafood, but I think I eat enough variety as is.

this is very down to earth day of eating

fasting is very practical. You don't need to eat regularly. And you never notice if you skip a meal, and the brain is as clear as ever, even in a fasted state.

Yep. However, it can also raise your lipids, if you fast too long.
