What's next for your doctor who reactions when you have finished series 12??
@ryanpollard11664 жыл бұрын
'The Haunting of Villa Diodati' might be my favourite episode of Series 12 so far, being a perfect mixture of a historical haunted house story and a Cyberman story all in one. The concept was sound, and executed really well, plus the Doctor was faced with a situation she couldn’t sonic straight away. The design and acting of the Lone Cyberman Ashad was really effective and creepy, showcasing just how menacing the Cybermen can be. I had a strong feeling that this episode was going to pull a 'Utopia'/'Face the Raven' style trick and be a massive glorified prologue for the final two episodes!

Shelley and Byron are two of Britain's greatest poets. Byron in fact was Ada Lovelace's father, who the Doctor met in the Spyfall episodes at the start of the season. The final poem at the end is from Byron's poem 'Darkness', and there's bit of his and Shelley's poetry dotted about the episode.
@Wolf61194 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the Doctor even mentions Ada to Byron in this episode, but I don't think the guys were really connecting any of those dots lol For reference of their most obvious and well-known works; - Mary Shelley is of course the author of Frankenstein (also subtitled as "The Modern Prometheus", which is what she calls the Cyberman in this episode.) - Percy Shelley was a very prolific poet. It's a bit harder to say which of his poems would be the most recognizable to people, but I imagine everyone knows at least one of his works, like "Ozymandias" or "Music, when soft voices die". - Lord Byron was an all around adventurer/gentleman/sex bomb type of guy, probably best known for writing Don Juan. - Byron also wrote an unfinished novel which basically laid the groundwork for the original Vampire craze, and it was Polidori who later refined Byron's concept and basically created the idea of a pale, aristocratic blood-drinker that would eventually be further crystalized as Dracula by Bram Stoker.

Byron is also yet to write a specific work that inspires Ghandi in India. It has direct consequences in WW2, where India has yet to decide whether to fight for Britain, or the Nazis. Without him, this point in history would change. Japan and the Nazis would have linked up, since Japan invaded Burma. The result would have been disastrous. Japan could even have turned its eyes to Australia and New Zealand more strongly than it actually did.

Also don’t forget the sleepwalker - Polidori. He wrote The Vampyre, which changed the portrayal of vampires into what they are written as today & kickstarted the genre. Yeah, Polidori’s responsible for Twilight. He based his vampire on Byron. Polidari was the first to make a vampire into an enigmatic, charming & good looking high-ranking figure. Started the vampire craze in literature & theatre which almost 80 years later led Bram Stoker to write Dracula. These four ppl, and Byron’s kid (Software) and Mary’s parents (esp her mum) changed the world, so to speak, and are responsible for the path that led to the ‘modern’ world.

The Doctor's mini speech about her being at the summit of the supposedly "Flat" team and having to make impossible decisions was interesting. It's definitely a step in the right direction I think, because a lot of people (Eric included lol) felt like 13 was missing a lot of the gravitas that her former incarnations all had, and she never really seemed to rise to a severe situation with matching severity in the same way. I think they were aiming for something like that this time, and it wasn't a bad speech, it just felt a little out of nowhere and hectic, I guess? Honestly "hectic" is a word which I think you could use to describe most of Jodie's run so far, really. There's very little breathing room in any of her scenes, and the camera is always so anxiously hugging people's faces too, it makes it hard to just let a dramatic moment set in.

Good episode imo and my personal favorite of the season. The spooky atmosphere really adds a lot to this story ..the humor also works more often then not which is something I can’t say about other episodes in Jodie’s era so far. I love the Lone Cyberman.. the idea of a half converted Cyberman who is fueled by his negative emotions is really interesting ..the actor also does a good job conveying the anger and menace of the character. I’m glad this season we got to see a bit of 13’s steelier side ..her speech to her “fam” about the team structure being flat to an extent was well done, ultimately it’s up to her to make the tough decisions and It gives 13 a bit more dimension ( even though she is sadly my least favorite Doctor of the modern era so far). I can’t believe you guys are going to be caught up after 2 more episodes..it’s been a hell of a 3 year journey !!.

As the story progresses, the Cybermen turn-up and then team-up with the Borg. There are some really cool assimilated Borg Cybermen. Obviously, the Doctor, Rory and Amy manage to defeat them in the end with the help of Captain Picard and crew.
