Both David Tenant and John Barrowman (The Doctor & Jack) were litteraly freaking out when they got the script with the revealing of the Face of Boe. John Barrowman used to tell the story and how he stood by the open window when the episode was aired to listen how "The nations jaw dropped" 😅

The way I see it, the Master chose not to regenerate, aside from being imprisoned by the Doctor, because he just wanted to beat him at something, to cause the Doctor to feel pain.

The Master is the Doctor's oldest friend. It's one hell of a fucked up relationship, but it's still incredibly important to the Doctor. Even before the Time War, but even more so now.

This ending had another reveal I was looking forward to seeing you react to. Jacks destiny was a great Easter egg to put on top of Martha realizing she had to take care of herself and move on. Though the resurrection of the doctor was a bit hard to look past. Bit cheesy, but the reveal of the Tocklephaine was totally unexpected.

I remember rewatching this series a few years back, first time I've watched them in ages, and I did not remember a good chunk of it, including the reveal that Jack was The Face Of Boe, so when I got to that point in this episode I was caught completely off guard, like I was in complete shock.

I'm sure you've already discovered, so it can't be a spoiler now. There *is* a mini-episode filler, mostly just a bit of fun, but it does help explain how anything, let alone Titanic, could rip itself into the TARDIS, which is impossible. The next full episode doesn't give that explanation, so watching the filler is kind-a important.
