I first became aware of W. Morgan Sheppard (as he went by then) in 'Max Headroom'. He was in an early episode of 'Babylon 5' as well as a surprising turn in 'Gettysburg'. I'm not as familiar with his son Mark's work, but looking at IMDB I see he's done a lot that I've missed. I saw 'Firefly' the first time around and bought the DVD the day it was released. I've watched it a dozen times and to my amazement and embarrassment I never recognized him as Badger.

I think most people, when faced with danger, will instinctively look over their shoulder very quickly, just to check if there might be more danger, and if we have a potential escape route. I don't think Rory was planning to turn around and talk to River at length, I think he was just instinctively looking over his shoulder without even thinking about it. Under any other circumstance he would have looked away and then instantly looked back again in less than as second. But because the memory loss effect kicked in as soon as he took his eyes off the hallway, he forgot what he was doing and why he was turning around halfway through the motion. Obviously different people respond to danger in different ways, and it also depends on what the danger actually is, but I could totally imagine myself doing the same thing in his position. If it was a snake or a spider, like Shane and Calvin mentioned, then I'd keep my eyes on it, since I already know what snakes and spiders are, and I know they can move really fast if you don't watch them closely. But if I saw a tall-ass alien monster in a fucking suit, I'm pretty sure I might flash my eyes away from it at least for an instance because I wouldn't really know how to respond properly.

And so begins of the best, most intense, stressful, mind blowing, heartbreaking, theory cracking, seasons of this show! I remember the year everyone was freaking out cause shit got dialed up to 11 already on just episode 1 and this plot stays thru the season so you aren't gonna get a resolution for a whole year! This two parter is still one of my favs and i can't wait for episode 7 P.S. i actually visited that spot where the Doctor meets Amy Rory and River next to Monument Valley!

The reason Doctor Who is referred to as "Series" rather than "Seasons" isn't so much to do with it being a British show, it's more to do with the fact that the 'classic series' refers to it's episodes groups as "Seasons", so for example Season 6 of Doctor Who actually happened in 1968, whereas Series 6 happened in 2011. I guess it's just a way to stop people from getting confused, but in fact has actually made it more confusing for some overseas audiences 😂

I'm so excited for series 6. It is honestly one of my favourites (which is definitely in part because I have a lot of nostalgia for it - it was when I caught up to the show). And this two-parter is one of my favourite series-openers. Glad you all enjoyed it, despite (and maybe because) all the confusion and WTF-faces. Oh and I'm glad the guys are pointing out things like beautiful shots and the music - I love that stuff in this one. Also, that discussion had me trying to cover up my laughter so much that my sister came in to check on me since she thought I was crying. While it didn't really stick to the point, it was amazing. "HOW DID THE BEAR GET IN THE ROOM?!" - classic Blind Wave. And the reaction too of course. Aaron must have had so much fun watching the chaos unfold. And yes, that is indeed Mark Sheppard's dad. I usually say this, but I'm SO HYPED FOR NEXT WEEK.

NPE 94 I agree up to around this time in the the Moffat run. From the middle of Series 6 and onwards there’s a real decline in quality. In Series 6, the arc is set up very well but the payoff is a disaster. The Moffat era is really only great for a series or so.

Izzy belle also agree! I’ve been watching ever since series 1 back when I was 6. I think series 6 had a lot of strong individual stories that explored interesting concepts such as a future episode involving a time machine (spoilers) and a lot of the episodes are quite scary. Not that I was scared, but from an outside perspective my sister who doesn’t watch the show said it was scary and I realised the monsters in this episode are spooky, as are future ones.

I think the reason why they didn't immediately scream when they saw the monster because they didn't want to scream until they were sure it wasn't following them. If the monster hadn't really noticed or cared about them, screaming immediately would be a surefire way to draw attention to themselves. It's usually better to quietly back away and close the door and *then* scream.

I think what Calvin meant about Amy being pregnant last episode is that in the beginning they said the ship has 4000 passengers and towards the end Doctor said 4003 so that's Amy, Rory and the kid (I also noticed it myself when I was rewatching it knowing that she's pregnant)

Also there was an episode shortly after Rory joined the team where she was literally pregnant... The doctor subconscious is the one that created the dreams so subconsciously he knew that putting them on the tardis together right next to their wedding would lead to such things

16:16 - No, Canton was also there to direct Amy, Rory and River to meet him in 1969. If they didn’t know who he was and what he told them, they’d not have been able to tell the Doctor, who then used the information to direct the TARDIS to where it eventually landed in the Oval Office in 1969.

Good outways the bad for me. This two parter, a good man goes to war, the doctor's wife, the woman who waited, and the god complex are all great to brilliant. Closing time and the flesh two parter are ok. Curse of the black spot, night terrors, lets kill hitler and the wedding of river song are bad, but not as bad as the lowest points of RTD's era. That's 9 ok- amazing episodes, and the strong moments are too good to ruin it.

One of the greatest attention-to-detail elements of this episode is that they got Mark Shepard to play FBI Agent Canton Delaware III in 1969, and they got Mark Shepard's father Morgan Shepard to play Canton Delaware III in 2011. Great way to insure the character looks like himself in two different eras.

River never scream since she was not under attack and was going to climb the ladder and let them know, but of course forgot too. The responces make some sense when you remember the forgetting rule too.

I remember absolutely hating this episode when it first came out only because this was the first two-parter premiere and I was so used to having the premiere be a really fun, enjoyable self-contained opening so my frustration levels were at 100032403240% lol. Also the first to adopt the American 'mid-season break' formula which was also annoying having been used to a full uninterrupted season of Who every year since 2005.
