One aspect of the story I’m surprised wasn’t mentioned was the line of dialogue “I quite enjoyed being Oliver. He had a wife, a mistress and a young farmer. God I was busy!” Would be so funny if they expanded on that in a target novel !

This was our very 1st cliffhanger in New Who wasn’t it and it really works I remember watching as a teenager thinking yea I have that Dr who buzz to see what’s gonna happens next week. Hated the farting & the GCI slitheens & the actual suits look a bit 💩 . The graphics have dated big time but even then it looked like they weren’t sitting in the composite quite right . Thank god they didn’t bring them back and pushed them off to The SJA. Things I did like were the zips in their heads and the blue light ray effect when they take of their suits very good and still holds up now almost 20 years later. One thing I didn’t get was the voice of the slitheen at the end of the 1st EP that was creepy when he says We are Slitheen why didn’t they keep that voice instead of the pitch shifted voice throughout the remainder wasn’t great. Gave it a 5 outta 10 then & still the same rating 19 years later 🙃

Simulcasting I think is a terrific idea, but I think the fact it favours the US over the UK so dramatically is making it sit uneasy with me. 7pm here would've been midday-ish over there, right? That sounds much more reasonable to me.

Oh gosh i remember this story terrified me as a kid. The scenes when they unzipped their foreheads to reveal they are Slitheen really scared me back then. (Aliens dressed as masked men use to freak me out as a kid) I didn’t watch the first part on first broadcast but the following week I managed to watch part 2. So I didn’t watch the whole story til I brought series 1 volume 2 on dvd and had to watch it with my sister, so she can tell me when the scary bits come on. Today i do like this story, it maybe not be great as a whole but I have those nostalgic memories i had. I do quite like the Slitheen, despite the fart jokes and silly lines I think they are a good monster design. But this was one of my earliest Doctor Who scares i had growing up.

Billy (NZ) & Matthew (Brazil), you are international fans, with a parochial past (mostly Matt… LOVE!!!). You are both fantastic “brothers-from-another-mother”. All I am saying… is give Disney a chance (RE: Timing). Keep on producing your HIGH QUALITY product… PLEASE…and thank you. (Love, A massive Pertwee fan)

I have mixed feelings about what is clearly a Disney decision regarding the times Doctor Who will premiere. As an Australian viewer ...from a purely selfish perspective I am very happy. Despite misgivings, I am going to view the New Series with an open mind and decide how I feel after I've watched it. In 2005 here in Oz...we received episodes a WEEK later ( which then was considered fast, the average overseas program was at least a year old). Then the era of the "Fast Track" show appeared and we would watch a DAY later. Eventually the episodes dropped just after they premiered in the UK( usually around Sundays 6am our time). So, to be able to watch a New Episode at the same time and at a reasonable hour (Saturday morning our time) is AMAZING. For the FIRST TIME EVER ( presumably) we will watch a Christmas Special on CHRISTMAS DAY( Boxing Day was the norm for us). However; as a UK born Aussie and an OG fan I totally understand the backlash. I feel British Doctor Who Fans are being disrespected. The tradition of watching Doctor Who Saturday Teatime is dear to my heart and an intrinsic part of my childhood.The show is a British icon and deserves to be treated with respect. I feel like I have Bi-generated, as I have TWO opposing views on the same subject. Emotionally I am angry that British Doctor Who fans have once again been overlooked and disrespectfully treated. Intellectually (although I feel UK viewers SHOULD have priority) I feel the best way for Doctor Who to survive is for it to become a GLOBAL phenomenon. I guess as fans we all need to decide individually whether Doctor Who ended in 1989,2017,2022 or 2023? OR move forward and see what the future holds? Any of these decisions is valid. For me .. this show has been part of my life for 60+ years, and I hope it's still around beyond my lifetime.

Do a video where you write all the doctors out on cards, all the companions out on cards, and a load of stories out on cards. Then pick one from each pile, so you might get Sylvester McCoy with Amy Pond in The Android Invasion, or David Tennant with Victoria in The Unquiet Dead, for example, and discuss whether the combination would work. Pointless but interesting!

My theory regarding the Two Episode Drop - i reckon they had always planed for the musical episode to go out on Eurovision night, so the original start date for the series was to be the 4th of May - but then, probably in the last few months, someone realised that was "Star Wars Day" and thought it a bad look to start Who on that date. They then didn't want to push things back a week cause they wanted both the synergy of a musical ep airing with Eurovision, and they also didn't want to hit the football thing coming up in late June - so the decision was made to do the two episode premiere.

I’m Same gender Attracted too and I think that word is a word from the past , it’s really a denormalising word when you compare it to the Word Straight for the Hettys of the world. It’s surprising that was in the episode. Nowadays you don’t really here people referring to themselves as Gay it’s been years since I heard anyone I know using it with regards to their sexuality. It’s probably due to it’s association with its negative use in the pass I think SGA or OGA is far more normalising and doesn’t carry any negative association.

@@callmebetty3854 What are SGA and OGA? Never heard of those. I can’t say I actually state my sexuality much in real life anyway. Mentioning my boyfriend tends to make it pretty obvious.

This was one of the episodes I used to watch all the time when I was a kid. So it’s always going to have a special place in my heart. Nowadays I think it’s still great although the flatulent humour isn’t really that great.

Oh you're right about the estates they filmed on being rough. Me and my mate went to go see the brandon estate (the powell estate filming location) in London, and the moment we got there, two guys ran out of the pub and tryed to mug us

Verity Lambert mentioned Chris E's unease in the role and I think she was right, she went on to praise Tennant as "Very winning". Maybe CE would've settled into the role later.

It would have been interesting to have another scene where Rose goes to visit Clive, only to be confronted by his grieving widow and kids (assuming they weren’t all killed by the Autons).

Re: Rose's "You're so GAY!" comment to the Doctor, RTD has said he writes dialogue people would actually say, not what you would want them to say in an ideal world that doesn't exist. See also his (very tasteless ) Jill Dando joke in 'Queer As Folk 2'. We've all made off-colour 'jokes' with our mates we wouldn't dream of using in 'polite company'. I think these should be kept in and used again in TV etc set in those periods. It's authentic.

It’s a bit of a mixed bag story for there is some really great moments and the political satire is decent. However domestic drama isn’t really my cup of tea and some of comedy doesn’t really land for me. In some respects Rose going home would have worked better for me as a series finale because we would got to know her better before get this dramatic material.

"Gay" has been through a lot, from happy, to an all-around insult for anything lame, to sexual orientation
@stevesstuff1450
@stevesstuff1450 8 ай бұрын
When it was used to mean 'lame', it'd already been used to mean homosexual for 30-40 years at least; it's not a new 'insult' by any means; when I was at school in the late 1960s/early 1970s it meant homosexual, and it was probably used in that context for at least a decade before that..... Yes, however, it was used by what would have been classed as 'decent' society back in the early 1900s, and before, to mean happy, bright, cheerful, colourful....

I do wonder how far Disney’s input goes as it started with they’ve just got the international rights ok that’s fine. Then they only give notes but we can ignore them and now we get a time that suits them better in the USA will now have to wait for the next shoe 👞 to drop. Had to edit say I will have moan and then deal with it love both of you and your. Opinions l
