MORE ABOUT DOCTOR WHO:
Doctor Who is a British science fiction television programme produced by the BBC since November 23rd, 1963. The programme depicts the adventures of a Time Lord called "The Doctor", an extraterrestrial being, appearing to be human. The Doctor explores the universe in a time-travelling space ship called the TARDIS. Its exterior appears as a blue British metropolitan police box, which was a common sight in Britain in the 1960’s when the series first aired. Accompanied by a number of companions, the Doctor combats a variety of foes like the Daleks and Cybermen while working to save civilisations and save people in need.
Beginning with William Hartnell, over fifteen actors have headlined the series as the Doctor. The transition from one actor to another is written into the plot of the show with the concept of regeneration into a new incarnation and body, a plot device in which a Timelord "transforms" into a new body when the current one is too badly harmed to heal normally.
Ncuti Gatwa had previously been announced as Jodie Whittaker's successor after David Tennant reprises his role as the doctor in the 60th anniversary specials as the programme's lead, and many reports stated he would play the Fourteenth Doctor and that Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor would regenerate into an incarnation portrayed by Gatwa. Upon Jodie Whittaker's final appearance as the character in The Power Of The Doctor, she instead regenerated into a form similar to the Tenth Doctor. This character, portrayed by Tennant, was confirmed to be the Fourteenth Doctor, with later clarification that Ncuti Gatwa would actually portray the Fifteenth Doctor. Ncuti Gatwa’s 15th doctor has also had his companion announced as Millie Gibson playing Ruby Sunday live on Children In Need.
On 24 September 2021, the BBC announced Russell T Davies would return to Doctor Who as showrunner, after having previously acted as showrunner from 2005-2010 for the Ninth and Tenth Doctors. He will succeed Chibnall for the show's 60th anniversary in 2023 and beyond. Davies will be joined by the Bad Wolf production company, which was founded by former Doctor Who executive producer Julie Gardner and former BBC head of drama Jane Tranter. In October 2021, it was announced that Sony would acquire a majority of Bad Wolf. Bad Wolf also took over creative control of Doctor Who beginning with the specials, allowing the BBC to focus on establishing Doctor Who as a global brand. The new era of Doctor Who is being labelled as RTD2 as it is Russel’s second era of Doctor Who.

The doctor is finally back to hating on capitalism. Kablam doesn't exist, it can't hurt you. Kablam was a collective fever dream. 13 did not do exactly the opposite, both in the capitalism and the algorithm AI fronts. How odd. Its almost like she was entirely out of character eh

I have been watching Doctor Who since I was eight, in 1969. I have loved and enjoyed the show in so many different eras. 2024??? Well, I hate to disappoint some people, but I think it is BRILLIANT! Gatwa is totally believeable as the Doctor. Millie Gibson is endearing and just fabulous. "Boom" was so compelling and 12 hours later the story is still there in my head. I even forgot about fish-fingers and custard until it was mentioned haha! Very happy with the new series. ❤❤❤❤❤

I agree! Every era and Doctor has its sinks and bad eps, and it seems some people forget that lmaooo. But I really love Ncuti and Millie! And with every episode it's just getting better and better for me, I'm having lots of fun. Honestly I think the space babies episode is the only one I thought was sorta meh, but even then I still liked it, especially the little scene with introspection about the doctor being 'the only one of me'. I think it's great too! This one actually made me tear up a bit because I'm close to my dad. I'm also VERY intrigued by how much we have the Doctor bringing up his family, really wanna know what they're building up with that 👀

I loved Troughton! I loved Pertwee! Crikeys - I loved them all. And (gasp) I loved Jodie W too --- her story with that tin-can Dalek has been the only time in all these decades that a Dalek actually unsettled me; that thing was so creepy. Yeah, lots of Trolls are hysterically shouting "Doctor Who is over!" as they desperately want more subscribers, and people who hated Disney+ kept their subscriptions and after shouting they will never watch it again they come back each week (dammit!!). Someone who claimed they've watched since 60s shouted "It's never been this bad!!". They clearly never saw Sylvester McCoy wearing that ill-fitting yellow wig pretending to be Colin Baker in the most hilarious regeneration scene ever, nor did they see the Gonds smashing the Learning Machines in "The Krotons" where the machines were revealed to be made of balsa-wood with tabs of mounting tape everywhere -- I mean, these were BAAAAAD! But also endearing. I loved your Reply, and I too look forward to what is next. The show has always been about change, and I love it. The musical numbers? I thought they were fantastic, and I still rewatch clips of the Goblin Song and think it's hilarious and so well done! Would have been fabulous in Tom Baker's time --- I could see him breaking out with "If you Laugh at my Scarf I will make you Barf!" or something. Some people need to lighten up definitely!!! 😀😀😀😀

Anyone saying that the Doctor crying is annoying them needs to seriously get in the bin! Firstly, there's nothing wrong with crying, it's healthy and it's good to see a role model like the Doctor allowing his feelings to show. Secondly, and most importantly, so far every time he's shed a tear it's either spurred him on to action, or at least not stopped him, at all! To me it shows true courage, and the ability to channel those emotions into resolving issues. I actually think it's wonderful.

@HOTD108_
@HOTD108_ 26 күн бұрын
@@klidopido I like complex stories, but they need to be in service of something meaningful. The problem with most of Moffat's season arcs is that we spend a LOT of time setting everything up, only for the ending to get supremely muddled. Stuff like "the hybrid" just sort of trail off into nothing, and the Silence/crack in space plot gets resolved with like one brief line of dialogue that doesn't feels rushed and very last minute, which after multiple seasons of build-up is not only lame but it also covers those preceding seasons in a massive wet blanket on rewatch because you know where it's all heading. It wouldn't be as bad if individual episodes in Moffat's seasons were more standalone, and some are which is nice, but many of them dedicate significant attention to the season arc. RTD, whether you love his season arc or not (and I do), even if you hate them you can still enjoy like 90% of episodes because the season arc stuff is way more subtle.

You know, that one device that Jack used to break 13 out of prison, that stops time and lets people walk through walls, would be really useful in this situation. The Doctor should really go to the factory where they make those things, or just get the TARDIS to make them, then situations like this would never happen again.

Speaking as a die-hard, die-for-her Jinkx and drag fan, she wasn’t at 100%. Some of the pauses in her delivery seemed less ominous than awkward. I watched the previous 3 excruciating seasons after giving up on the show just to be caught up to watch her episode. I wasn’t disappointed, but if you’ve seen as much of her as I have, I was expecting more. When she nailed it though, it stayed nailed.

All in all feeling the same as you describe about this season, a few differences here and there but negligible. Although this episode left me... Unfulfilled? Maybe it was the pre-hype for Moffatt, but pretty sure it's safe to say it was not on the level that Blink was. I do get that once the landmine is diffused that's the end of the episode, but it felt rushed anyway. Also, when Susan the Ambulance read out Ruby's age was that more like how Amy had hers read in The Beast Below and it based it on the time difference between her birth date and the date the episode was set in the future, or is it more of an "Amount of time lived" since an ambulance is programmed to base it's findings at a biological level not a "We searched your birthday in a database so you must be many thousands of years old"? Picking up what I'm putting down? I could imagine Susan the Ambulance was reading her DNA and I mean each episode has been telling us that her heritage is curious to say the least so it may affect the results. Probably looking into it too deeply but I was surprised when Susan the Ambulance read out such a high number, why would she not say Ruby's biological age?
@klidopido
@klidopido Ай бұрын
There might be some offset due it is Ruby, and something is wrong, we know that much. What if she has messed up DNA, and DNA is that old?
@cmjnwd
@cmjnwd Ай бұрын
@@klidopido Yea that's what I was thinking, we've now been introduced to the concept of god like beings having offspring, I've seen talk of Ruby being one such being, and it seems like this is what the episodes so far have been leaning towards. But if Susan the Ambulance is correct then I'd be a bit unsatisfied with the DNA being 3082 years old considering Maestro says "How could a song hold so much power. And power like him" (Doctor replies: "Like who?") "The Oldest One". At the moment I'm of the impression that Ruby is the daughter of this Oldest One who I would assume is way more than 3082 years old

Loved your reaction, and the predictions were on point :D I don't want to hate on the child actor, I bet she did a great job with what she had to work with but I hated hated hated the character.. She is at least 5 years to old to be that stupid and detached from reality. I can imagine a world where even her delulu character would have made sense if she was introduced as this child living in this ideology bubble, protected from her father indoctrinated by the anglicans or what not. But with what little we know about her she is simply stupid (sorry rant over). Overall I loved this episode a lot. Like you I felt like "this is the Doctor back in action". Most of the time I like these almost intimate episodes. Small setting, small cast meaningful interactions and brilliant dialogue.

Hmm, not sure how I felt. On one hand, I loved the episode and the tension, wasn't expecting Ruby to be shot. I loved how the dad saved the day and his character was really good, along with Splice (yes dont shoot me i thought she was really good and the acting was fine from her). But on the other hand, a few things stopped me from it being my favourite, mainly Murphy and the extremely long opening, idk something about her character just annoyed me and I couldn't get my head around their relationship. Overall I would say 8/7.5 (9 if that character was a bit different), but the overall concepts of this episode I just love, I just felt the characters brought down the episode. So I would agree with your opinion. Although Ncuti acting once again was a speculator.

I loved this episode. Stephen Moffat holding a mirror up to the Americans and showing them how terrible they are. Although I still doubt any American would get it. Capitalistic, war loving, gun toting, God fearing idiots that love money more than the lives and health of their people, a brilliant analogy of modern day America. Moffat is so good at individual episodes under different showrunners than he is when he is the actual showrunner. Best episode this series so far. Finally proper Doctor Who is back.

I liked this episode a lot, it’s definitely a Moffat episode and there’s some great tension, some great messages and some great dialogue and callbacks. But it’s not one of his strongest imo, I didn’t care much for the setting, the child acting wasn’t great and it did resolve very quickly. My biggest issue though revolves around the Doctor and Ruby. I think having only 8 episodes has really hurt their relationship, having this big dramatic moment of Ruby being shot and the Doctor being devastated would have worked so much better if this wasn’t episode 3 and they hadn’t cut out 6 months of their time together. If this had been like episode 8 out of 13 in the old days it would have hit so much harder and been so much more believable. I know it’s not really RTD or Moffat’s fault but that really stops me from absolutely loving this episode because I just don’t feel that impact, it also makes it confusing that they’ve been together 6 months and this is the first alien planet.
