DOCTOR WHO Companions Panel Highlights - Dragon Con 2023

Doctor Who actors Billie Piper and Mandip Gill gave a panel at Dragon Con 2023 to talk about their experiences, careers, and answer fan questions. Due to the SAG/AFTRA strike, these actors cannot talk about specific projects, roles, or characters.
Billie Piper played Rose Tyler (and the Moment) in Doctor Who and is also known for Penny Dreadful, Secret Diary of a Call Girl, Mansfield Park, I Hate Suzie, Collateral, and Rare Beasts, among others. She began as a singer and moved into the acting world with Doctor Who being her first acting role.
Mandip Gill portrayed Yasmin Khan in Doctor Who and is also known for Suspicion, Hollyoaks, Doctors, The Good Karma Hospital, Casualty, Five Dates, and Love, Lies and Records, among others

There was that controversy of Billie coming into it and she had to prove herself. But, let's face it, I remember Bonnie Langford getting into it at a crisis point and she's coming back. Resilience is the key to this show.

I like their answer about definition of success, especially Billie's answer. I feel like not enough people have that kind of perspective, too many people feel like you _do_ have shoot for some form of major notoriety achieve real success - especially acting. But that sort of thing is fleeting. Does the average person remember Spencer Tracy or Hedy Lamarr? Some, but probably not most; yet some of the brights stars in their days. It's not about settling or setting "attainable goals," but rather a question of fulfillment. It is possible to find creative, professional or personal fulfillment in understated ways. That doesn't need to be equated by what's in the bank. It's a perk if you can find fulfillment and not have to worry about money, but if your financial needs are met and you're content, there's nothing wrong with that being enough. It doesn't preclude ambition, but it's not necessity to keep chasing after the next achievement.
