Made me think for a second about Bad Wolf. It came full circle in the 50th. The reason 9 ran into Rose was not a coincidence. He came looking for her. She was The Moment...the form of Bad Wolf. Think about it...her introduction to the war Doctor of "Hello!". The exact same "Hello" 9 gave Rose. In The Parting of the Ways, Bad Wolf destroys the last of the Daleks, and declares the Time War over. That was The Moment. "The Moment is me."

The fact that he doesn't seem to remember Rose isn't because he's moved on; In fact, it's the complete opposite: The Moment called him the Doctor "who forgets" because he tried to forget the time war because of he couldn't handle the grief. So I believe that, like the Time War, he's deliberately choosing to forget Rose because he can't handle anything else. It's too painful for him to remember. He's an expert at avoidance. When Amy asked him, "What do Time Lords pray to?" He changed the subject and chose to forget and ignore the question when we all know that "if there's one thing I believe in. Just one. I believe in her." In Rose Tyler. The woman who was chosen to be the Moment over anyone else in the Doctor's entire lifespan. Over River Song, Martha Jones, and over Clara Oswald.

I like to think that there are some people he never fully moves on from. He is cursed to love and lose over and over again, but everyone he deeply loves (like rose) stays with him. That doesn't mean Rose was his only love or anything like that, but he still loved her. She meant a lot to him in a different way than the other people he loved, and he'll never forget that - just like he won't forget river.
@Liam-bq1qp4 жыл бұрын
The only thing that will haunt him the most is the fact that he never got to say "I love you" to Rose (and he never will). If he did, it would only break both of their hearts and take the chance for Rose to learn and love his clone. So he let his clone say it instead of him... And seeing them kiss just added a whole bag of salt into his wound.

@@bat8046 my late grandma lived to be 90. She showed me her little black book and said “they are all gone. All of them have been crossed out now” and I saw on every page names and phone numbers for decades back, some crossed out in black marker some in pen ink. Not one name on any page was left. All gone. She was the baby of the family. She out lived her parents and all of her old siblings. She found her husband dead under a Jeep in a tragic accident. She heard her father’s last words pointing to the ceiling “Oh look!” Then dead. She had no family or original group of friends left. While she was sad, she moved on, and got much younger friends. I mean her new set were from 30s to 60s. She wanted to not outlive them again. She would laugh with them, and behave decades younger than her years. So while this is just a long running TV show, we could imagine an old man feeling similarly, not really wanting to dwell on the crossed off names of the past because it hurts to remember them, and so finds younger healthy people to have fun with. But everyone once in a while when nobody is around he may see something that reminds him of something one of them said, a face, a name, vaguely, and the fondness of them. He would just have to go on.

The War still happened... the Doctor still fought in it for more than 800 years... 9th and 10th Doctor still do think that they wiped out the Time Lords... and I was always pretty sure Gallifrey wasn't just gone... Nothing is gone if it is remembered. Also... 11 is the Doctor who forgets... 11 is a new man... he has those memories... but who knows if he still has that same impact... this has been a continued thread all through the Doctor's various incarnations... "eleven saying juat friends, mates :( it made me sad how he disminishes their time and memories together" ...You missed the point of the scene, because to me, it's obvious that he's quite visibly lying, just a bit, and trying to diminish and hide and pretend that that's all that ever happened. Because he doesn't want to give Amy ideas, lead her on, make her think that she has a shot, because he was in love with Rose who also traveled with him. He also doesn't want to make the same mistake he made with Martha, and constantly compare Amy (and everyone) with Rose, and make them feel. Less.

This hurts. it totally trivializes the relationships he had with his companions into a rude tongue in cheek comment about "blokes being blokes" but like... I've SEEN all the Classic content. It wasn't like that. They were his friends. He was a grandfather role. a professor role, a guardian to a literal ward, a supervisor at the workplace that just so happened to be really fun to work with. An adventurer leading an expedition, a mentor, a tutor, a father figure, even sort of a kindly uncle on a few occasions and (in his younger bodies) sort of like that childhood friend that you view as your unofficial older brother. Sure, some of the companions fancied him on the blue moon, but it wasn't reciprocated in that way. Even Davies did that, to a far smaller extent, and it annoyed me then too. Because the very first female companion was Barbara, and despite what most people say she kept her head and could get by on her own without a man to do it for her. She was protective of the younger companions and headstrong. VERY FIRST ONE in 1963. Most of the time, unless they are very very young, the female companions don't recognize their self-worth and by the end of their tenure they have gained self-confidence and have grown up enough that they don't need to rely on him anymore. Plus, the male companions were often the ones he had deeper relationships with when they were there because they came about so little. Ian, he learned to respect human intelligence. Stephen, he took on despite thinking he was a bit of a cad and ended up trusting him to fix something that had gone wrong in a previously-revered society. Ben, he learned to value human integrity. Jamie, human loyalty. The Brigadier, deep and purposeful friendships and the value of respect in general through Yates and Benton. Adric, he learned to be more careful when it came to deliberately sending his companions somewhere potentially dangerous. Turlough, he saw the value in why giving someone a second chance in trusting their better nature paid off so long as he believed the best in them. All those life lessons, he got more from his male companions than his female ones even if he applied that mentality to the female ones as well. for his female companions he learned to see things from a different point of view. He learned that looks can be deceiving, and that everyone has worth and value despite their debut appearance. They can grow beyond that into something more. And here's the thing: Those were the lessons the audience learned too. Peri, I think, is the most obvious character to sexualize due to her bikini tops and short shorts, and is thus the best example I can use aside from Jo. Peri was going to college to be a botanist and had an innate logical thought process that she made generous use of. So, despite looking like she should be on "Baywatch," her most useful asset at the end of the day was her mind. For Jo, Jo was sweet and clumsy and into fashion. But she could keep up and follow the Doctor's science babble for the most part anyway, often explaining things to professional scientists. Does the Doctor like showing off? Of course. Does he do that more or less when another male is present over when a female is present? The answer is yes. It's not the gender of the companion that matters, but what they meant to him as a person. I wish Moffat would get that, but he forgets the past companions except for comedic crude humor. I'm glad this scene got deleted, because I just wrote four paragraphs explaining the deeper relationship the Doctor had with his companions that should have taken ten to twenty minutes to elaborate in film, and this five minute scene condensed all that down to "yeah the Doctor's a typical bloke and has one thing on his mind amiright?" Which is just WRONG. Thanks for the upload btw; sorry for the rant and thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

Carl Bruschnig, Jr I am aware. And I don’t see her as a companion, not in the sense of the others, because she was family. The Doctor and Susan were introduced together as a package deal, and before she left it didn’t feel like her being on the TARDIS was temporary because the ship was her home too. Not like with Ian and Barbara, the first true companions. They weren’t companions of the Doctor alone, because he and Susan were a package deal. In my mind that doesn’t make her a companion but a family member. So sorry for the confusion. Hope this clears it up.

2:18 sounds like a traumatic flashback to Donna Noble, there. lol I love the little hints of the Doctor learning from his past relationships, like how he brings Rory to Venice after destroying Mickey's relationship with Rose, or says "I've never met anyone who wasn't important" after saying Donna (the most important person in the universe) wasn't important when they first met. Edit: He also makes a point of asking random people's names as 10, because that assistant guy in Aliens of London died without anyone learning his name (Harriet Jones does this too); and he stopped pausing to hug people as 11 after doing so made 10 and (Rose/Martha?) miss an elevator.

I disagree with that on many counts... Moffat was a better writer in my opinion... because he didn't give everyone a crush on the doctor... in the very first RTD episodes... Jackie is hitting on the Doctor... then it's Rose then it's Martha... thank God he didn't do that with Donna... probs why she's my favourite New Who companion... Amy had a crush which lasted like...3 episodes... Rory was a very down-to-earth guy, Clara didn't have the crush, in-fact the Doctor mentions in Deep Breath, that it was actually his mistake... Bill viewed him like a Professor, Nardole was his friend/employee, in fact the only Character in Moffat's era with a romance plot was River Song

I'm with Anashi anyone who watched the tenth doctor especially when he see's rose again and is running to her knows what they ment to each other. And while I like the idea of River, Moffat mucked up that. He just tells us they are in love and not very convincingly on the doctors part. But we see it with Rose.

Dang Karen is so gorgeous! But on a serious note, the scene would have probably hit a lot of people the wrong way with the whole "hot companion" thing so I can see why it was left out. However I feel the part about the back yard should have been left in. That was a decent poignant moment of the Doctor explaining why he likes to have a companion with him in general.

I'm in the US as well. The classic Tom Baker era begins with season 12 (1974-1975) and lasts for seven seasons right up to season 18(1980-1981) Romana is first introduced in season 16(1978-1079), which is called 'The Key To Time' saga and is sold in a DVD box set under that title. Actress Mary Tamm plays Romana in this season. Romana regenerates in season 17(1979-1980) and is played by Lalla Ward, who is in the three-part season 18 saga called 'The E-Space Trilogy,' also sold as a DVD box set.

I see a lot of people complaining about how the Doctor doesn’t specifically mention Rose, Susan, etc. but that’s just not the person 11 is. He’s not like 10 in that respect. Tennant’s Doctor regrets and carries the memories with him no matter how painful. Matt Smith’s Doctor runs from the memories; from his past; from the pain. We see this in “Let’s Kill Hitler” where the mere sight of Rose, Martha, and Donna is too painful for him to even look at for more than a second. It’s not that he doesn’t remember Rose, it’s that he doesn’t want to. It’s not that he doesn’t love Rose, it’s that he loves her so much that the memories they share are unbearable.

@doz222 The TARDIS is probably teasing him a little here, like "What did you say? You have no interest in Chicks? What about the one you had a nice romantic dance with in this very controlroom?" XD Which is probably just a tad counterproductive here since he's trying to keep her from tearing off his clothes. He probably *did* have just a sliiiight thing for Amy (Some lines in "Amy's Choice" are very obvious) but is far to decent to deprive poor little Rory of rightlfully-earned girlfriend.
@ljentllc6 жыл бұрын
Would've been cool if when Rose popped up. It stopped. Amy asked the Doctor why it stopped. And he looked at it. And a flash back to Rose and the Doctor in series 1, 2, and 4, I'd love to see that. Like Rose walking into the tardis for the 1st time. Rose seeing regeneration into 10. I'd absolutely love it. Than The Doctor would say. "Oh it's just another one of my companions." Than Amy would say something that annoyed the doctor like. "She had to of been more than that." And it wouldn't been perfect.
@XxoxDazzleMexoxX14 жыл бұрын
Did the Doctor just say 'miss out the metal dog, why don't you?' LoL :) Not quite sure how I was supposed to understand that line. Maybe it was because the TARDIS only showed the female companions and left out ALL the men like Ian, Adric, Ben, Jack and especially Mickey that was constantly reffered to as the 'tin' dog. I don't know, didn't make much sense to me, but I LOVED the fact that they showed all the past companions. This should've totally made it into the actual ep :D It's AWESOME mate
