Well, it seems half the UK is saying goodbye to a bunch of folks they’ve known for a while, in what seems like it may be an explosive end for many.
And what better way to capture all of that than with this video! A goodbye and an explosion!
So, @mh6944 recently suggested to me that "Goodbye Pond" would work well for the scene of Adric's demise (? depending on whether you listen to Big Finish!) in Earthshock.
I had already tinkered beforehand with 'Together or Not at All' for that scene, which, coincidentally, is from the same episode as “Goodbye Pond”.
Hence my labelling of this track as a 'first song choice'.
However, the track didn't work for me after tinkering with it for a couple of hours.
The sounds were within the same ballpark as Malcolm Clarke's original soundtrack, but they didn't quite work well together. Plus it sounds more Kingsland than Clarke. I did try a more Clarke inspired version, but it came out sounding too metallic to feel sorrowful enough for the scene. His Earthshock score was very metallic and militaristic, so I opted to release the Kingsland inspired one instead.
Regardless, I never bothered to perfect the mix to make everything work more harmonically as it didn't really convey the mood I was aiming for. It seemed more heroic than it should be. Not because Adric's death wasn't heroic, but I think a score for his demise needed to be more tearful than inspired.
For that reason, I'll only present a snippet of what it might have looked like.
But, thanks to their suggestion, I now know exactly what track would work.
But I wanted to release this anyway because it kinda works? And hopefully whets the appetite for a decent somewhat authentic mix for the near future with the full scene.
