You forgot the single most important thing about Doctor Who: the Doctor solves the most terrible situations in the universe not with guns, or brawn or force. The Doctor saves the day with only two things: compassion and intelligence. This sets the Doctor apart from every other science fiction, well, superhero. The Doctor doesn't kill, but he may find a way to have deadly foes destroy themselves... if they cannot be reasoned with. And if they can be reasoned with, the Doctor finds a way for the greatest good to be done. The Doctor is never bigoted, or narrow, or cruel. The Doctor is all about reason solving all problems. Reason, rather than violence. Reason, and compassion. There is no show in the world quite like Doctor Who.
@tost69566 жыл бұрын
But despite his tact and wisdom, the doctor does have to kill or use physical violence quite often. He's not a complete pacifist, even if he does opt for peace as often as possible. The video below demonstrates this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q3_YeYljnrF1iNk

I'd recommend starting either with series 1, series 5, or series 10. They are the best jumping in points. Classic who is absolutely brilliant and many of the best episodes are classics, but it's a bit more complicated and they can be harder to find, so I'd recommend going back to them after you've finished new-who. (Don't worry about the order of classic stories, you can watch them in any order as they are fairly standalone.)

Don't skip 9 like all the hipsters would tell you to do. 9 is one of the best doctors even though he's only got one season. 90% of season 1 is great and Christopher Eccleston did a fantastic job. If you want to skip one of the best series' of new who then go ahead but you'll miss out on some absolute classics like 'dalek' (second best dalek story of all time) and 'the empty child' which is straight up horror. Only the slitheen story leaves something to be desired but the rest is fantastic. Seriously, start with 'rose'.

I know this is quite late, but I totally agree with you. I feel like starting off at season 9 and watching till season 11 is the beat option (you'll get to see one of my favourite episodes "cold war" which I highly recommend) After you're done with them, continue from season 1 to season 8 as they are highly recommandable. The reason I haven't included season 12 and 13 is because I just feel like the episodes get kinda boring from there. That's just my opinion tho :)

Any of the other new Who Doctors may work... well _enough,_ if that's what you're going for, but you won't get the full depth that informs the post-Time War Doctor's centuries-long arc (whose beginning was written specifically as a new jumping-on point more than any other and has wound into a remarkably cohesive thematic narrative ever since) if you start anywhere after Nine.

And then I checked out all the other Doctors too. 6:08 That's what I've been doing these last 8 months and finished watching just the other day. Obviously I watched reconstructions of the 97 missing episodes from the 60s. They were either the official animations or the unofficial Loose Cannon recons involving surviving footage and still pictures with the complete soundtracks.

Well to be honest, I enjoy both Classic Who and NuWho just as equally. I know Classic Who looks cheesy in terms of special effects and the acting compared to how modern NuWho looks, but I still enjoy the plots just as much as NuWho. Well, I think I'd be better off listing one Classic Who episode with each Doctor which I consider my favourites. My favourite with the First Doctor is "The Time Meddler", Second Doctor "The Tomb of the Cybermen", Third Doctor "The Dæmons", Fourth Doctor "Pyramids of Mars", Fifth Doctor "The Caves of Androzani", Sixth Doctor "Revelation of the Daleks" and Seventh Doctor "Remembrance of the Daleks".

I really don't understand why so many people sisimply refuse to give doctor who a chance! If you e watched a couple of eppisodes and it's not for you but fair enough. Everyone knows of it. No matter you're age, class or usual entertainment preferences. I know so many people who have never saw a single eppisode. You're in the office/classroom/pub/social gathering. Everyone talks about American horror storie, game of thrones, breaking bad. So people decide to watch it just because other people are. Mention doctor who in a crowd and people look at you as if you're the alien. I see so many times people asking for tv series recommendations. Recomend doctor who and its usually either instantly dismissed or sniggered at. I don't know if it's because its been around so long that its never actually "that new show" or because people still associate it with middle aged socially awkward men who live in their parents basement, or because it still has a reputation of plasticine monsters and wonky sets. Or people believe you have to be a science geek to enjoy it. People would rather watch re runs of stuff they've already seen or soap operas than give it a chance. Its 45 minutes. That's all it would take. People just recently asking for recommendations of child friendly horror/spooky/scary tv shows or films to watch with their kids on Halloween. People would rather force their kids to beetlejuice juice or Adam's family (again) then give it a chance! Imagine Halloween night and sitting down with the family and watching human nature/family of blood. Empty chilf/doctor dances, night terrors, haunting of vila detours, knock knock and many others. Imagine watching them fir the 1st time on Halloween, as a child. What a fab experience that would be.

@jakerobinson94752 жыл бұрын
So the Time Lords species invented time travel to become the most powerful race in the universe, though the revival starts after a Time War made them extinct and even in the classic era they were more of a sporadic presence. The Doctor (they/them is used to refer to the character in general when not talking about specific incarnation since the Thirteenth Doctor is female while previous incarnations are male) stole a TARDIS to run away with there being multiple reasons why they did it, and travels to explore the universe with their friends and to fight monsters if they encounter them.

The Doctor changes his/her personality? I thought he/she retains the memory they’ve gotten. Wouldn’t he/she still have the same personality then?
@allme25474 жыл бұрын
Sheesh, I've always been the same person, but even _my_ personality has changed over the years. Depends on what is happening or what I'm going through. Though the character of a person remains mostly consistent.. haven't you noticed that things like: who you're dating, school/work environment, even exercise regimen can tremendously affect your personality? Now, imagine waking up: a different age, height/weight, or even gender? It would definitely have an effect on personality.

Basicly think about it like this. You live in a body for a while. That body dies and you incarnate at some other point of time. You grow up with all your memories, but your brain still has to develop and you get different experiences as you live. Your personality basicly reshapes itself.

Well there is a third era that covers the 8th doctor. Just listen to his big finish adventures. Also the doctor doesn't like human, we look like timelords, they came first, well actually we look galifrayian, as timelords are not a species (according to some continuities you don't even have to be galifrayian to become one, like ace, one of her possible endings is her leaving the doctor and becoming a timelord). Also doctor who doesn't really have a continuity, for a start there are three different Atlantis' and several different endings to the planet earth (which some fans have tried to put into a single timeline but I view it as more of a flexible one with some historical events getting altered by other time travel events).

@jakerobinson94752 жыл бұрын
Actually it is canonically part of the Marvel multiverse, during the 90s and maybe early 2000s Marvel did publish comics in the UK including Doctor Who and even the Transformers with them being established as being in different universes. They even had a character called Death’s Head (I really fun character) travel to the Transformers, Doctor Who and main Marvel universes. However Marvel doesn’t have the license to Doctor Who or Transformers anymore, so when they collected Death’s Head’s comics into one a few years ago those issues weren’t included.

Can someone try explain sorry if I'm wrong but When the doctor regenerates doe he get sent to another timeline and the new doctor goes from that place to us? Sorry if i sound confusing but just wondering over the 50th anniversary episode
@anothergermanmapper77543 жыл бұрын
I am almost a Year Late but no. The Timeline stays the Same. He just gets a New Body. The 50th Anniversary was an Epic Clusterfuck of Time Travel.

The original "Classic" show ran from 1963 to 1989 and had 26 seasons before it was cancelled, but the show was brought back in 2005 in what we call the "New" or "Revived" era of the show which has currently just finished it's 13th season.

What is the doctors' mission though?
@jakerobinson94752 жыл бұрын
The Doctor doesn’t actually have a mission. They more stumble into trouble while trying to explore the universe with their friends, and fight monsters only if they can’t find a peaceful solution to the problem.

The Doctor can regenerate as often as the programme needs her to.
@rockysandman54896 жыл бұрын
AJ S. The standard regeneration cycle includes 12 regenerations, for a total of 13 incarnations. Time Lords may recieve more regenerations *under special circumstances* . This happened to the Doctor, who recieved an additional full set of regenerations, which would end at the Doctor's 24th regeneration, or 25th incarnation. As for the 507 remark, the Doctor very likely said that in jest, in hope to get the boy (I forgot his name) to stop asking him questions. So that was basically just a joke, low key.
@hunter_nx9876 жыл бұрын
Yes the doctor spoke 507 in an episode of Sarah Jane Adventures, but the trick is that 5 + 0 + 7 = 12 ... is a joke

alright can i just ask if anyone hinks that david tenant isint the best doctor? honestly phenomenal
@Katherine_The_Okay6 жыл бұрын
He's not terrible, but his Doctor is so "human" that you sometimes forget that he's playing an alien (this is not hate for Tenant. I enjoyed his Doctor and am seriously looking forward to him playing Crowley). For my money, the best of the new series are Eccleston or Capaldi.

My favorite doctor is Sylvester McCoy.
@Katherine_The_Okay6 жыл бұрын
August, McCoy was a lot of fun :) If we're doing Classic Era Doctors, McCoy was my first and very fun to this day (also, ACE!!!), but as a young girl, the non-threatening vibe of Peter Davison's Doctor was what got me into sci fi. Before that, all the sci fi male leads I'd seen were loud, pushy action hero types, and I was too young and too girly to cope (thank heavens that changed, lol).

As long as they don’t make a big deal about a girl being a doctor, and as long as she’s good then yeah fine with me

so what's the POINT of the show? whats the story point running through? what purpose does the doctor have to exist and what is his mission that he has enemies for it?
