At around 8:10, you complained that the episode revealed that Williamson was shooting at the time particles, rather than leave it vague, except…Williamson says to Dan he wasn’t shooting at the particles, just that he’s seen what they can do.

The cutaways to Bel's story felt really jarring on first viewing similar to the Brendan scenes from Ascension of the Cybermen, and I was dreading they'd reveal her to be another pre-Hartnell Doctor. Thankfully that wasn't the case.

I completely forgot about Yaz's backstory in Can You Hear Me. I still can't grasp what her character drive at all, which is ironic considering she's the longest serving companion. I wish she got a great character moment before the series end.

With the flux giving way for the antagonistic factions to fight over the spoils, I'm starting to see a idea of a strategy game called doctor who factions coming to life. The players can mostly play the various types of villains as the factions of the game, thank the folks who made the idea on deviant art so thank them for that.

I loved this episode. I felt it flowed brilliantly and I loved the back and forth of it. Mandip was great in all the roles she played through the show. 13 was great and loved her reaction to yaz and the anger. Loved the weeping angels and felt it was just a great episode.

I liked it. The Daleks were a neat little cameo and I loved the re-appearance of Ruth: ‘Who are you, and why are you in my reflection?’ I also loved the dialogue between Dan and his girlfriend (forgot her name, sorry). Just felt nice and real.

Passenger reminded me of the Genesis Arc, essentially "Time Lord Technology" where it can be bigger on the inside. The Division no longer seems like a Time Lord Organization, especially when you consider at some point the Time Lords just let the Doctor be, even rely on them as an asset. This would have been a great time to introduce a more cooperative Master (or maybe Missy if she didn't regenerate into the latest on-screen incarnation) who agrees to help the Doctor. Dropping off Vinder whereever doesn't make sense IMO. If he is looking for someone specifically, the Doctor could have potentially located her. Perhaps the inclusion of the Bell/Vinder subplot is more in line with the old series multi-parters. I just think he would have been good to stay on as another companion.

Speaking of Doctor Who going after (then) current government administration, RTD did the same thing with Harold Saxon in The Sound of Drums, a satire on how Tony Blair got into power not through his policies or competence, but because the British public have a tendency to vote for "charm" and "charisma" instead. Arguably still relevant given successive UK government leaders 😉 Sci-fi has always taken inspiration from current events and indulged in political allegory, it's pretty much a staple of the genre. People just tend to get a bit upset when it is politics they don't like or feel attacked by.

This is just my subjective take, so I may be wrong please forgive me, but I read Yaz's part as being about uncertainty. Instead of taking place in her past, her part is in her future. She says it's not her house so maybe in the future, something's going to happen and Yaz and her family are going to move somewhere else. She's on the couch watching her sister playing video games instead of being on adventures with the Doctor. I'm not saying it's not weak, I agree it was. But that was just my read of her scenes

Y’know, I’m starting to think people might be onto something with the theory that Bel + Vinder are the timeless child’s parents. I think the “change” line could have actually been a reference to the fact that Vinder may be able to regenerate. I know it sounds dumb, but it would make a bit of sense with what we know so far. And I could easily see Chibnall writing it that way.

Quite frankly, this episode felt to me like a really long exposition dump that didn't actually tell us very much new information. I have no problem at all with introducing new mysteries that don't get resolved for a long time (I'm a fan of One Piece, after all, and if you want a series that waits a REALLY long time to answer its questions after it brings them up, look no further), but when you're asking boatloads of new questions back to back to back when you already have a bunch you still haven't answered and aren't doing all that much outside of asking new questions, eventually your audience is going to give up on trying to understand - and worse, trying to be invested in - any of them. This is where the Flux arc hit that point for me. I'm just finding it really hard to care about where the story is going from here.
@mattatobin Жыл бұрын
I know this is a few years ago now but still I believe you will appreciate this.. badly written political allegory is badly written none the less.. WELL written political allegory can still be entertaining even if you fundamentally disagree and at least opens up to reconsidering if the reasons you disagree are still valid or hold up against what the message is trying to say.. Badly written stuff just pisses people off and what else pisses people off? Politics in stories that don't serve the story. So the solution is .. just write goodly or somethin.

Perhaps reviewing the middle of a serial and complaining that its vague is somewhere between unfair and silly. When your not understanding the villan, have you considered that IT IS THE MIDDLE OF THAT VILLANS STORY? The little old lady who knows what's going on is a great drop in, this is fundamental noir mystery. Someone who clearly has all the knoledge and contempt for the hero for having none. We kind of need Yaz to explain to the Doctor how rude she is, it's a long run where she has just increasingly taken her frustration with Yaz not understanding out on Yaz. I've been enjoying flux immensely so far, I assume two episodes after this we will have a whole other perspective on these events.
