RTD manages to write arcs for several different characters and genuinely makes it such a pure moment when they all sing and at the end when they all see the sunlight for the first time in decades. Then the face of boe doing, then the doctors chat with Martha. So much emotional punch and character crammed into 45 minutes and none of it feeling forced or crammed or underdeveloped. I just wish writers could write like this for the show nowadays. It’s lost all of its heart

So Martha is really into the Doctor, but he's still hung up on his ex, doesn't like to share things about himself and in this episode he gives her a really bad case of crabs.

The doctor can be a total jerk. Poor Martha! but she was fantastic-- being a doctor to the doctor... making him open up and look at himself. I love her. This, I thought, was a very strong season-- and very underrated. I agree with you that The Bad Wolf ending was fantastic-- a great close to the "new" Who. Thanks for letting us know about the sound, and thank you for putting up your real reaction anyway! If the sound was completely gone you could type in subtitles and it would still be worth watching!

The Macra Terror was a second (Patrick Troughton) Doctor Story. The Film was erased and reused not long after it was Broadcast. The Good News is they Animated all the Episodes this year. I got it a couple of weeks ago. Protecting his Companions is the most important thing to the Doctor. 'I am the barber and I Shave People'.

My favorite so far is Dalek. That first time we really see the Doctor scared/angry changed my view of him and had me hooked. But my real favorites are still to come, so please keep them coming! (And thank you for the ones we do get!)

Here's some trivia for Katrina: Part of the Doctor's recollection of Gallifrey is taken from Susan's description, which she gives way back in the very first season (The Sensorites Ep.6) My favourite story of the ones you've seen so far is Empty Child/Doctor Dances. Dalek comes a close second, though.

My favorite is upcoming. Its a two parter that shows the real range of both David's acting and the sides of the Doctor we don't often see. Though of the ones you've watched I'd have to say Dalek. Its one of the few times you see the Doctor, this nigh infallible righteous man, this great time lord who always knows what to do, what's going on, loose composure. You see him afraid. You see his hatred, his fear. Superb acting on Ecchlestons part

Gridlock is such a great episode, so simple and yet so emotionally resonant. It's just beautiful. An interesting aspect to this episode is the religious allegory, which RTD talked about in his book, "The Writer's Tale". The city of "New New York" represents the heaven above, the Macra represent the hell down below and the people are stuck in between going round and round in circles without end, which I guess represents everyday life. They only have their hymns and faith, which give them comfort and a sense of community, but it also leaves them unable to take a stand and change anything. Their faith stagnates their life. It's interesting to put the Doctor into this world because of course he's a non comformist and can't help questioning the obviously broken system around him. The Doctor's lack of faith and determination to find his friend is what ends up saving the day. He's not content to just sit around and buy into a fantasy, unlike the people of "New Earth". RTD admitted that his atheism affected his writing because it's definitely quite a negative and cynical outlook on religion, but it certainly gives you food for thought. Martha and the Doctor go through some great development in this story as well. Martha's moment of realisation that she knows nothing about the Doctor because he never tells her anything is great, yet for some reason she still ran off with him without telling her family anything. Her sadness that her family would never know if she died right there is really well done. The final scene, when she demands the Doctor to start talking to her properly is great. The Doctor lying to Martha about Galiffrey is heartbreaking, but it's great that he realises by doing that he put her in danger and shouldn't have been so selfish. It's such a gorgeous and satisfying moment, when he finally opens up to Martha and tells her about Galiffrey. Of course there's also the "Face of Boe's" death, which is very sad for some reason. Especially because of the way the Doctor pleads for to him to not die because they're both the last of their kinds... There's also Boe's revelation, what could that mean?! This is just a brilliant episode!

Oh, Paula. When you find out who the face of Boe is, you're going to FREAK!! Kat, make sure you're ready to catch her jaw before it bounces off the floor! Favorite episode so far? DALEK!! But I do have some favorite scenes. Like when the Doctor took Rose to the end of the Earth and BACK. Just the idea of seeing the end of the Earth and going back to where you came from changes you. Broadens your perspective. Of course, one of the episodes that hurts is Father's Day.

I like any episode that takes place in the future. Who doesn't want to see the future? Unless if it's a post apocalyptic one. But flying cars, high tech everything, things that I couldn't imagine...yes please. I only have so much time on the planet. To glimpse and see something possible like flying cars and teleportation and forcefields actually exist makes the mind excited of all the potential things yet to come that you'll never get a chance to see in your life time or even a life time.
