I think Gridlock is one of the most underrated revival episodes. I think Ten's expression of sadness at the end when he is talking to Martha about Gallifrey is an amazing bit of acting. Plus, its a novel and relatable idea!

‘Isn’t this the place with the cat nuns?’ (Sees a cat nun) ‘ah fuk!’ 😂😂 Fun filler episode this one, with a random return of the macra since it was exactly 40 years since the macra terror aired when this episode aired. The doctor’s description of gallifrey is the same as how susan explains it in the very first season ‘the sky is a burnt orange, and the leaves on the trees are silver’

What's so good about David Tennant's portrayal of the 10th doctor is that when he's talking about Galifrey in the end of this episode, he makes it so real. His facial expression is so powerful like as if he was really there and not just saying what was written on a script. When he said "you should have seen it then old place" his facial expression creates a smile that's about to cry with sadness, something that's hard to create unless you're genuinely remembering a happy and sad memory.

It's wild that I remember the ending of this episode as one of the most beautiful scenes-- when they're literally just sitting in a gross back alley-- purely because of the way the Doctor describes his home world. It's like I could see Gallifrey myself, and feel all the sadness of losing its beauty, through his words and his face alone. This show can do so much with so little. Beautiful underrated episode.

I am glad you left that final scene in. It's one of my favorites and a lot of reactors skip right over it. It is a beautiful scene. It seems like a lot of the more emotional or character development episodes have sort of rubbish monsters or villains so as not to overshadow the central characters. I like Martha a lot; but my favorite is Donna...

In a different episode there's offhand remark which might reveal who is the Face of Bo in a way that answers other questions. The Face might be metaphorical: the Doctor has people like Rose and Martha who provide companionship. In human terms, an old man might have watched all his friends and family die, but if he is willing to take the chance; he can gain new friends. Even old women and men can still marry.

@@BritanyBinges I love The Old Rugged Cross. We used to sing it at my church a lot because I requested it all the time! @@BritanyBingesit's a lovely him about meeting Jesus, but it's a funny thing because you're supposed to think both ways - how beautiful it is that everyone has faith they will be saved one day, but also frustration because they're nkt saving themselves. Ironically, someone *does* come save them. So the Doctor is actively playing a part in their faith without realising it.

I've seen this episode a bunch of times and agreed with the Doctor when he told Brannigan it was his fault getting Martha kidnapped but never really could pin down why. Until I realises the only reason they were in New New York in the first place was because of his lie to Martha. I'm dumb. Iy's also incredibly sad how Martha tells her captors that she's not sure if she is the Doctor's friend. ALSO loved how on the commentary David and Russell both said the Doctor really admired how Martha put her foot down. Martha is really amazing for it to, this is literally the first time in the revived series that the Doctor spoke about Gallifrey in detail.

The fact that they made an episode about a big traffic jam and it was good is just great writing. I don't think this is a spoiler for classic who but just in case, stop reading here. This is the first return of the Macra in 40 years and have not appeared since 1967. The singing i thought was abit cringeworthy i don't think that was neccessary needed i think they did that to build the emotion and to show off Murray Gold's orchestra music. The Face of Bo's death was the saddest part of the episode. The cat-man is played by Ardal O'Hanlon who is best known for Father Dougal McGuire in a 90's irish sitcom called "Father Ted" if you not seen it i highly recommend it it's really funny whether for a reaction or in your own time.
