4:54 I love that Matt Smith accidentally ripped that while filming and they all just rolled with it.

It blows my mind that this two-parter was the first story that Matt Smith filmed as the Doctor. He immediately fits into the role so well that it feels like he's been playing the part for ages Also, the twist with the statues all being Angels is brilliant because it's hidden in plain sight. The indigenous people having two heads is discussed constantly throughout the episode, but you don't really take it into account because it's treated as irrelevant worldbuilding that usually has no real bearing on the story. It's only when it dawns on the characters themselves that you realise that it's actually VERY significant

Actually the Aplans having two heads is first mentioned about 3 minutes before the reveal. I would have liked it to be shown earlier in passing, but it wasn't.

Funny fact when the Doctor caught River in the Tardis Alex accidentally kneed Matt in the Groin.

Perfect analogy to their characters relationship.

I love how the writer Steven Moffat takes threads that he left from the first episode where River appeared in the library episode (where she asks if they had done the Byzantium yet) and then reverse-engineers the story which is in the Doctor’s future but River’s past at that point.

Somewhere there is a clip of the filming of Matt catching Alex as she enters the TARDIS and she inadvertently knees him in the.....well, let’s just say Alex was very apologetic about it!

also about the angels, there's a meta thing happening that moffat takes into account the viewer, so when we see the angels, they can't move either. it's even more obvious in the first episode with them and sally, we actually participate in the episode and i think that's so cool

Except for the fact in the very next episode we see one move

@@the_dropbear4392I saw someone suggest that the angels drew enough power from the time rift to move jnbetween frames. This is my headcannon because I like the fourth wall break, and because we never actually see the ‘angels:’ even when we see them move, their skin remains stone. So without any confirmation that the angels skin is stone-like, this’ll be my headcannon

One of my fav eps. I love River, her and 11 are my two fav characters. Amy imo is the best companion. 2 episodes she saved the day when the Doctor couldn’t and was able to save herself in this ep. Any River ep is amazing!

So yeah pretty much when an angel turns one of those statues into an angel it got an extra face, the one underneath is the original statue face then the one on top is the angel

I think the 'come and see' line might be a nod to 'Revelations' from the bible. There's a bit where one of the Four Horsemen says that.

I dunno. Killing people seems more menacing than sending them back in time.
