2:03 Worst of all is the floating casket, which actually looks less fake in the original! Admittedly, the original is slightly oversized in the wide-shot but at leas the relative dimensions are right. There's better shadows but an awful untextured model is used in the 2024 version and it looks squished along its length in the wide-shot! It reminds of the 'dead' looking Red Dwarf 3D models that they used when they dropped the plastic models for external shots of the mining ship!

Even the soft blur on the end credits is of nostalgic value. Not everything has to be sharp and clean especially when you've got Daleks on wheels taking corners on uneven roads! The more slick they make everything the else, the more jarring the actual practical effects are, which were very good for the time. This is the era of the Amiga 500 in our homes and the special edition should pay homage to that era and the tech available (Video Toaster, Lightwave, Deluxe Paint and Scala etc) with upscaling and period accurate tech tweaks only in my view. Hopefully the original version is included as well?

The Daleks are a time-active species at this point. Eliminating them is only going to reduce alterations to history. The Daleks interact with the Earth repeatedly in the next couple of hundred years, undoing all of those may end up far too chaotic for Daleks to track.

I still maintain that New Who has over-powered the Daleks. 'Dalek' was a great story and I understand that in order to sell the threat that the lone Dalek posed and to explain the level of the Doctor's anger/guilt then it needed to be formidable. Dramatically for that story it makes sense, and this is now a post-Time War Dalek so I understand the upgrades. But now Daleks can absorb the internet, shield themselves, rotate their mid sections, fly etc. then all of Classic Who just would not work. You couldn't hollow one out and climb inside, you couldn't throw mud at the eye stalk or cover it with a coat, you couldn't push one out of a window or down a lift shaft and Ace and her bat wouldn't get close. There's a huge amount of irony in a lot of the space shots. They explicitly say the ship is in geostationary orbit, and when we see the shots of earth from the position of the mothership, the size of earth makes logical sense for the required distance. Now, in violation of the onscreen dialogue, the mothership is now in low earth orbit, which doesn't make sense.

I do wish they’d put back in the section where the Doctor tells Davros he’s “far more than just another time lord”. That bit got cut from the original broadcast so late that the tapes had already gone out to the colonies with the scene in tact, so that’s the version I grew up with, recorded off the telly

Nice to get a better look at the Destiny of Stars (Imperial mothership), although the cloaked in shadows look really suited the gritty aesthetic of this story.

@@HiveFleetOni I clearly have memory problems. Eret-mensaiki Ska, the flagship of the Imperial Fleet. Excellent, thank you. I just couldn't imagine who other than Davros would've been throwing around fancy names.

3:50 So, bullets just didn't exist in 1988? You'd think that even a muzzle flash would've been added with the rest of the new effects.
