No, it wasn't meant to be a big reveal. That's the reasone why it was revealed with flashbacks early in the episode. It wasn't big music or something epic "OMGGG THE VAULT IS OPENING DALEKS ARE COMING ZMGGDD, WE'll DIE" The whole story arc about "vault" is The Doctor keeping Missy safe for a thousands of years. *SPOILER PART* "It's time to become friends again". It's a such a beautiful story arc. You'll see what I mean when you watch the finale. "It's time to stand with The Doctor" and only thing that can stop Missy from doing that is...Missy herself(or in this case Master). I can't believe how many people don't get this.

All so that you could feel superior that your knowledge of "Doctor Who" is greater then everyone else's? MajorCvikljee We completely understand it, but the fact is that for 5 weeks they tried to make it mysterious as to who's in the vault, not even saying "she", so as to keep it secret. Why bother doing that and then not even having a good reveal, it was a tremendously weak story arc. I absolutely adore Missy, she's one of my favourite characters on the show ever, but I don't think there was a single person that didn't predict she was in the vault, it was a let down.

Both of you worked out the two elements in the story that meant it was all a simulation. Mary realised that the TARDIS wasn't translating Italian because it should have if it was the real world. And Amy worked out that the President was not Trump which was actually confirmed by the director to be an indicator that it was all a simulation created by the Monks that had those flaws. No one else seemed to pick up on them. Also Bill's scenes with her date are something we all need to appreciate as it makes a same-sex relationship so perfectly natural. Bill is one of the best representations of an LGBT+ character I've ever seen in TV.

I really liked this episode and the twist. I like the fact that even the doctor in this realizes he's not the real doctor but is still clever enough to get a message to the real doctor.

I think the reason I never liked Nardole in the past - apart from The Husband of River Song - is because he wants the Doctor to fulfill his oath of guarding the vault (nothing wrong with that), but at the same time, he seems to want to do that by keeping him from being the Doctor. The Doctor is an idiot/madman in a box. He doesn't sit in front of a vault for a thousand years. He should go on his adventures, stay true to himself, and when he comes back a second later, he can sit in front of the vault again. He has a TARDIS, for God's sake. But what does Nardole do? "Doctor, we shouldn't do this. What about the vault?" Anyway, I'm watching the season again, so we'll see where I stand with Nardole in the end.

Also I originally thought it was either sensitivity to the American audience or being careful of reality that the President was brown haired and Caucasian and male (something no President has been since 09, and both candidates were pretty much blond in 2016, so even if there was so much lead time they filmed in October they were guaranteed to not depict a real President dead on screen). Turns out? It was a glitch in the Matrix. Intentionally. They filmed it after Trump won, but it was supposed to be a clue that things aren't right... Check that. That things aren't _the same_.

The most shocking thing in this episode for me was Pope not being able to speak english without having translator. Bih, it's been almost half of the century where we have multilingual popes (and even before probably most of them knew at least one of the most popular languages in the world). So I won't believe in any future Pope, who cannot speak one of the most popular language nowadays.

This was one of my least favourite episodes of the series. A boring and predictable reveal of who's in the vault, and far too much Nardole. The rest of the monks three parter is slightly better but overall it just falls flat. Enjoyable reaction, your dislike for Nardole is so relatable 😂

Dill Gomez I actually liked finding out who's in the vault cause it's not *treated* like a reveal. It's just thrown out there, in the middle of the season like it's nothing. Better than dragging it all for ten episodes and treating it as some dramatic twist.

I think that this was easily the best episode in Monk arc. Interesting story that can stand so well without next two. It had a strong plot, it was well concluded and a chemistry between characters was amazing. Especially seeing Doctor coping with blindness and actually giving shades an interesting part. And The Monks are most interesting here for me. A mysterious figure making a simulation of Earth before invading, nothing new in sci-fi but really new for Doctor Who. Thy Pyramid at the End of the World was on the other hand... to me not so good. The whole mystery about "The pyramid" was blown at the start of the episode. "Oh mysterious pyramid, I wonder what's inside" so interesting "Oh look a Monk opened the doors" over. I knew the Monks were inside just like with the Missy, but why blow the mystery at the start of the story? Not to mention those soldiers representing those 3 nations. There's no way they would act like that. It was very weak to me. I get it that Moffat's mother was ill and died during the writing of that episode, and I have nothing than a respect for that man, so I'll give him credits. But let's not forget that Harness co-wrote it and did what he always does. The Lie of the Land, doing propaganda. Let's see how they're going to do that concept! Oh Toby... 20 mins in the plot starts... they ask Missy to solve it! This scene was enjoyable with missy but the story would be so much "on it's own" without it. And at the end deus ex machina and sharing a plot point with Forest in the Night and Thin Ice...how great. So yes. IMO Extremis was the best part of the Monks arc. The Pyramid was shoved into something, and The Lie of the Land did nothing and concluded it on the worst way possible..
