I'm fine with it, but I can't help thinking if they only animated the 4 episodes of The Faceless Ones, and used the other 2 animation slots to animate a story with 2 missing episodes, that would be two stories for the price of 6 animated episodes
@JoshSnares5 жыл бұрын
Not really how it works. Building assets such as character designs, sets etc is a huge chunk of the work. It’s easier to construct two episodes of the same serials becAuse the majority of the assets are there already. With two random episodes, that’s starting from scratch.
@TheRealUnkn0wn_2895 жыл бұрын
Why don't they keep everything from the missing stories instead of changing or removing stuff? If they didn't do that then I'd be fine with them, though the colour versions are just unnecessary only casual viewers or fans want that, and why not put the episodes that have already be found in it and include the telesnap versions of the episodes as well which don't have anything removed or changes in them for actual fans who want the closest things to the original versions that they can get, also why not have the classic story DVD covers for the collection and why have the crap logo that no one likes, even when the logos changed before they kept the same logo for big finish and all of classic who related stuff, the BBC are just cheap and lazy and don't give two craps for what the fans want

There is actually another set of audios that covers just about every missing episode. It was used to patch up Reign of Terror for DVD, but the audio quality was unknown for a long time. The person that recorded it used a custom tape deck, and playback needed a tape head that could be adjusted for each episode. Mark Ayres recently modified the right model deck and it sounds like exciting things will come of the collection, especially for all the episodes outside the Strong/Randolph sets.

A couple of years ago, my dad (who is an estate agent in North London) was selling the house of one of the set and prop designers of Dr Who in the 60s. He had passed away and the family wanted to sell the house. My dad said that the house was FULL of old Doctor Who props, sketches, and god knows what else. He even said there may have been old film reels hidden under the stacks of stuff. He tried to convince the family to allow a BBC archivist to come and go through the collection. Unfortunately they were so eager to get the house sold that they said no and all of the stuff was just emptied from the house. My dad doesn't know what happened to it. It makes me feel sick that so much important Doctor Who history was thrown away with such disregard - ESPECIALLY at the possibility of old film reels that may hold unseen footage.

I'd like to see them all animated eventually, although that may never happen. In any case, I have a personal list of priority: 1: _The Celestial Toymaker._ While Loose Cannon and others do a good job of telesnap reconstructions etc, they just cannot do this story justice. It relies so heavily on visuals that almost the whole plot is completely lost on the viewer. Crying out for animation, in my opinion. 2: _The Daleks Masterplan._ An absolute epic that would be made even better. It's already great to watch even with 9 reconstructed episodes, and animation would take it to an even higher level of brilliance. 3: Any serial involving companion introductions/departures. Those who have seen them know which serials I refer to, but I won't name them here for the benefit of those who may not have seen them yet. Spoilers and all that! Just my personal preferences and, of course, others may disagree.

Excellent work, Josh. Would love to see more Hartnell serials animated: In no particular order: The Savages, The Celestial Toymaker and The Smugglers. Troughton stories: Evil of the Daleks (Which may well be up next!) , The Highlanders, Fury From The Deep and The Space Pirates to complete season six. The Blue Peter/Tenth Planet story is a myth and has been debunked. In 1973, Blue Peter borrowed a telerecording of Tenth Planet 4 - the original videotape was wiped in late 1969. It is assumed it was borrowed from the BBC Film Library and when an audit was taken in 1977 only the first three episodes could be traced. In fact, Blue Peter borrowed the print from BBC Enterprises and in 1974 Enterprises were offering the full 4 episode story for sale overseas. If Blue Peter had lost episode 4 in 1973 it couldn't be offered for sale a year later.

Better with women/men/people. It's made me think, with my lack of sleep, from doing my own self improvement studying: You know Josh it's ironic. All these years I should've done my own regenerating. But I played it safe. Like missing DW episodes we all in life need to rediscover who we are as characters in our own scripts? Then our lives goes from black and white to color. Like worn out film we're digitally restored seeing ourselves better and improved (with better packaging too?). Life should be a full story we can enjoy and be proud of as individuals. Not someone full of missing episodes. Great video as always. You're a unique person. Never doubt that no matter how unfair or difficult life gets. Peace.

If we're going to be utilitarian about this, then the next story should feature the companion with the most missing episodes to give them more fan exposure. So I crunched some numbers and this is what I got: Jamie has the most missing episodes at 47, however, Jamie was in 115 episodes which is more than some Doctors so this number is a bit skewed, we should probably be going by ratios instead. Ben and Polly have the highest percentage missing at 66% (25/38) But most of their missing episodes (13) have been animated so that lowers their percentage to just 32% That leaves Steven. He has 27 of his 46 episodes missing (59%) and none of them has been animated. I don't particularly care which one but the Savages seems like a safe bet. (I'd like to the Myth Makers but I doubt that's going to happen.) If you're curious, not counting animated episodes as missing, Steven is followed by Victoria (44%) then Dodo (42%) and Jamie (34%) Ian and Barbara come out of this the best, with only 12% of their episodes missing. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk. -This, of course, is negating Sara and Katarina who are sitting on 80% and 67% respectively-

For me? Animation is fine, especially since they’ve actually begun to improve considerably. They even went back and fixed Power of the Daleks’ rather shoddy animation. Great video, Josh. Out of all the missing episodes, I'd say I'd like to see Marco Polo, The Abominable Snowman and Evil of the Daleks animated. While with the last two it's due to the villains and especially to see how the Daleks' intended end was carried out, the first is because it was pretty important in developing the First Doctor's character, the costumes and set designs and even how the story took place over a good stretch of time which helped the First and his group's bonding, that's quite a first considering later stories with that element.

Great video! i love talking about missing episodes :). So ponder this: What if BBC did the Wheel In Space 'teaser' in order to gage a reaction? If the reaction is good (which i THINK it was well received) they now can use this after a 'risky' release. I see The Faceless Ones and Macra Terror both as 'risky' since neither have the obvious iconic elements such as Daleks or Cybermen - so they could keep doing risky ones until one doesn't perform as well, then they can bring out a Cybermen story to liven up interest again. So take some release logic and mix it with all the good information in your videos and i think post Faceless Ones you can gage some likely nexts: Evil of the Daleks would be a crowd pleaser and they may be ready after the Faceless Ones to do that - but if they want to push the envelope and do another non-iconic episode, Fury From the Deep or The Savages would be the obvious candidates in my estimation. Then at any point there is a lull throw in, we would finally get: Wheel In Space.

The religious wars of the Hugonauts was something that was sadly only partly discussed in my Advanced Placement Euro History class so it's something I'd love to see represented in Doctor Who as a sort of doorway into finding out more about it. Until then, I'm content in being lazy.

I’m very hopeful for Season 5. Since the Ice Warriors has been animated and Fury from the Deep is next, that means there are only 10 missing episodes without animation, though of course orphaned episodes will be included as animations. However the wheel in space seems very likely, and as said in this video, the abominable snowmen is very likely. So only web of fear remains. Well it’s only one episode for a special edition and also the missing episode is confirmed to exist.

Do The Savages first; relatively easy, get a bit of practice in, and because I'd LOVE to see it animated; I read the novel when it came out, I've seen the Loose Cannon, and a great fan made restoration of episode 1 (!), it's superb, and it has Steven and the, in my opinion, underrated Dodo... Edit: underrated=much maligned. Then do Fury, then go Dalek-tastic and do Master Plan and Evil at the same time. This should/could save money on the production. Perhaps throw in Wheel, make a great Box set!

I have a theory that they're animating all the Troughton Sci-fi episodes in order, skipping over those that have already been reconstructed (e.g The Underwater Menace and The Moonbase). Based on this theory, I think that the following episodes will be animated in order: The Evil of the Daleks The Abominable Snowmen Fury From The Deep The Wheel in Space I'm not sure what they'll do after this, however. We'll just have to wait and see

In my opinion, they won't go for any of the harder stuff until much later down the line. Plus for the people who are moaning about them animating all the episodes in color, I believe they'll have the original episodes alongside the black and white episodes.

Dying for Evil of the Daleks. I’ve listened to the audio countless times and I think it might be my favourite classic story. The child Daleks are just awesome. I’d love for one of the child Daleks to turn up in new Who. Imagine the Doctor in a no win situation just for the Dalek to say “Friend?”

I agree that all signs point toward the intent to tackle Evil ASAP. Now that they have more general experience and resources available so can work more efficiently, they got someone willing to pay for at least six episodes again, they've had experience re-animating existing episodes, and they've carefully chopped away at the rest of the seemingly unlikely season four, yeah. They've been building to this project. As for what I'd want to see, I dunno, man. I'd have said Macra, not long ago, and Enemy of the World before that. As great as it would be to see some of the Wiles-era projects, somehow the introduction of young James McCrimmon stands out to me. I'd be really happy to see The Highlanders at this point.

They might be focusing on the Troughton episodes at this time because they already have the resources for the main characters and the Tardis so it’s economical to use these before making up one for Hartnell and his crew. There’s also the possibility that the budget can be adjusted for more costly ones, they’re just wanting to get the easy ones done first. As for the question, the ones I’d want are The Highlanders (Jaime’s introduction), Marco Polo (to see how well they do with an intricate story design wise), The Wheel in Space (I like Cybermen more than Daleks) and The Myth Makers (Katarina’s introduction and Vicki’s departure)

On the Missing Episodes being recovered: - The Doctor Who Restoration team said in their Gallifrey One 2019 interview by Radio Free Skaro (Yes I know you referenced this in the video) that they know of two episodes in private hands, one of which being from the 1975 Australia return, and the other episode not being from this return. They also specifically stated that it was not Web of Fear 3, meaning that we have 3 confirmed missing episodes that survive, leaving 94 missing... The Surviving Episodes are: 1. Unknown Episode; 1/51 Possible Episodes (1/32 Hartnell Episodes; Season 1-3) / (1/19 Troughton Episodes; Early Season 4 & Late Season 5) - Hartnell: Marco Polo, Reign of Terror, The Crusade, Mission to the Unknown, The Daleks' Masterplan, The Massacre, The Celestial Toymaker, or The Savages - Troughton: The Highlanders, The Macra Terror, Fury from the Deep, or The Wheel in Space - Best Guess 1: "Crossing my fingers" The Daleks' Masterplan (03) - The Devil's Planet b/c of Blue Peter 1971 clip - Best Guess 2: "Crossing my fingers" The Daleks' Masterplan (04) - The Traitors b/c of Blue Peter 1973 clip 2. Australia 1975 return; 1/46 Episodes (1/12 Hartnell Episodes; Early Season 3 & Season 4) / 1/34 Troughton Episodes; Season 4-6) - Hartnell: Galaxy Four, The Myth Makers, The Smugglers, or The Tenth Planet - Troughton: Power of the Daleks, The Underwater Menace, The Moonbase, The Faceless Ones, Evil of the Daleks, The Abominable Snowmen, Ice Warriors, The Invasion, or Space Pirates - Best Guess: Galaxy Four (1) - Four Hundred Dawns b/c of the Whose Doctor Who BBC Two Documentary from 1977 which lead to 5 min 30 secs extant in the archive. 3. Web of Fear: Episode Three (Confirmed)

I reckon one of the missing episodes that went "walkies" is Fury From The Deep Ep. 6. The film can was found but no episode was within it. I strongly believe that there are more episodes to come. I believe as well that Phil Morris has found more but will not announce them (quite rightly) until he has uncovered all potential leads - I will not be surprised also if he is waiting for the 60th Anniversary to make his announcement.

Right, BBC are tricky about how they will release (what sort of order is 2 6 parters in a row?) Well already we have: The Invasion (2006) The Reign of Terror (2013) The Tenth Planet (2013) The Ice Warriors (2013) The Moonbase (2014) The Power of the Daleks (2016) The Macra Terror (2019) The Faceless Ones (2020) Fury from the Deep (2020) Not including Mission to the Unknown (recreated) We haven't animated yet: Marco Polo: All 7 The Crusade: Episodes 2 and 4 Galaxy 4: Episodes 1, 2 and 4 The Myth Makers: All 4 The Daleks' Master Plan: Episodes 1, 3, 4, 6-9, 11 and 12 The Massacre: All 4 The Celestial Toymaker: Episode 1-3 The Savages: All 4 The Smugglers: All 4 The Highlanders: All 4 The Underwater Menace: Episodes 1 and 4 The Evil of the Daleks: Episodes 1 and 3-7 The Abominable Snowmen: Episodes 1 and 3-6 The Web of Fear: Episode 3 The Wheel in Space: Episodes 1, 2, 4 and 5 The Space Pirates: Episodes 1 and 3-6 In order of amount of episodes to be animated: The Web of Fear (1) The Crusade (2) The Underwater Menace (2) Galaxy 4 (3) The Celestial Toymaker (3) The Myth Makers (4) The Massacre (4) The Savages (4) The Smugglers (4) The Highlanders (4) The Wheel in Space (4) The Abominable Snowmen (5) The Space Pirates (5) The Evil of the Daleks (6) Marco Polo (7) The Daleks' Master Plan (8) But if BBC decides to do all episodes animated then: The Crusade (4) The Underwater Menace (4) Galaxy 4 (4) The Celestial Toymaker (4) The Myth Makers (4) The Massacre (4) The Savages (4) The Smugglers (4) The Highlanders (4) The Web of Fear (6) The Wheel in Space (6) The Abominable Snowmen (6) The Space Pirates (6) The Evil of the Daleks (7) Marco Polo (7) The Daleks' Master Plan (12) So basically the same order as the last list but it will take longer...

Im very thankful for these animations especially as a Troughton fan since so much of his era is missing. Im hoping that Evil of the Daleks, Fury from the Deep and The Highlanders gets animated.
@rulamnayrji41214 жыл бұрын
I kinda feel impatient when they animate the surviving episodes. It wastes time. Also they should do a vote on which story is more popular to animate and also they should do 4 episodes per DVD for the Daleks' master plan. Also they should put the 2019 reconstructed mission to the unknown in the Daleks' master plan. If they do the abominable snowmen then they should also include web of fear 3 and not abominable snowmen 2, it already exists. If they choose to animate Highlanders they should also animate the underwater menace. What's the point of accepting the smugglers and the Highlanders if they won't do the massacre. Fans: I want Marco Polo and the Massacre, they're great stories Animators: Let's do faceless but we'll still do Highlanders and the Smugglers.

I believe eventually all the missing Episodes will be animated. I believe this because as Time Goes On animation becomes cheaper but also the amount of assets that the studio will have existing will be greater. For example Rob Ritchie already has assets for evil of the Daleks such as the emperor Dalek standard 60s model. They could also subsidize the cost by making the price of the physical release more expensive. For example I will be happy to pay twice the price for the Daleks master plan if it meant we got an animated reconstruction.

This vid makes for a fascinating rewatch 5 years (and 7 more animations) later. Your table seemed to be a fairly accurate predictor, even if we are still waiting on those "Space Pirates" and "Smugglers" animations lol (although, if the rumours are to be believed...) Truthfully, the only stories I doubt we'll ever see reanimated are "Master Plan", "Crusade" & "Marco Polo" (although I do have an uneducated crackpot theory that DMP could be achievable if they didn't reanimate the already existing parts + left "Feast" as a recon). The rest feasibly seem within the realm of possibility IMO - even if "Fury" is still the 'hardest' one they've done yet.

We all need to buy the hell out of these videos to increase the chances of our seeing The Daleks' Master Plan (WITH its prequel "Mission to the Unknown!" I can dream too). I would also love to see Fury From The Deep (I agree that it is "begging to be animated"). It would also be cool to see "The Celestial Toymaker." Regarding episodes with poor audio quality: Does the technology not exist to clean these up to an acceptable level?

If we were ever to get Daleks' Master Plan, they'd probably either leave it to the end, a sort of magnum opus, or have to sacrifice quite a few other potential animations, as it's essentially double the Faceless Ones.
