David Tennant gives me goosebumps in this scene. The way he stands up to someone thuggish and attempting to bully him but asserts his power by screaming right back at him. Scenes like this remind me of why Tennant was such a good doctor and a childhood hero of mine.

@@pbthroggy Actually, yes. "Diary of a Part-Time Indian" described it at best: Bullies are like wolves. They will test which rank you fall into. Show them as soon as possible that you are not under their position, show them who is the Alpha-wolf. Even if it means you get problems for that, the bullies and everyone else will remember that. It is possible that the bully will get revenge for that. But at least he remembered that you are not an easy target, and if the bully is not a psycho, he will accept your position. Talking with teachers or try to peacetalk them, in my experience and what I get from others, rarely worked.

Rose is so good. While The Doctor investigates the mysteries and stands up to the assholes, Rose sits back and comforts the crying, hurting people. That's something no other modern companion has done, I don't think. Sit and hold a crying woman.

i love that although in moments like this, the doctors actions come across as very justified and somewhat heroic even but it really feeds into the character arc he was having throughout the david tenant era, his superiority complex just peaking through, seeing himself as above other people, all it took was for the writers to place this attitude into a different context later down the line and we see it as a flaw.

The Doctor shutting him up was the most satisfying moment. That “I am talking” bullshit was so annoying. I think he does that to shut people up after he is done talking. It's not really about "woke" culture. This was genuine sexism and misogyny, where women were meant to bear the kids, do all the housework and not have a job while the man went out, worked, went to the pub, then came home to a dinner his doting wife had prepped for him. She'd also 'help him relax' if his work was stressful and he needed some relief. Chibnall isn't even remotely subtle about it and portrays unrealistic scenarios to hammer home a point. The kind of misogynistic behaviour in the scene above is what a typical '50s house would be like.

This isn't woke, it was a completely expected situation for the time in which the Doctor and Rose are in, and it was entertaining and humorous. Chibnall's era is Woke Who because every episode consists of Mary Sue Jodie doing a speech about bad we humans are no matter what time zone or location, every enemy is a rich white man. Add to that Moffat with his random "WE HATE MEN LINES" in S9 and S10 and you have yourselves a cringeworthy unwatchable show.
