People complained about the episode implying the doctor liked men, and how it hadn't been implied before. But to be fair it was never really implied the doctor liked women either until the 1996 movie.

I feel like of all the "woke" stuff people have an issue with this one makes the least sense to get angry about. The character was pretty much asexual for most of the run and didn't really have the womaniser thing going on until Tennant 1.0. Nine flirted with Jack quite a bit and didn't react negatively to being kissed by him. Eleven had a few 🌈fruity🌈 moments. Twelve said Missy was his "man crush" (referring to when she'd been the Master). For a species that's shown to change gender I think it makes sense their sexuality wouldn't align with straight humans. It's one of the cases where I think it makes perfect sense in-universe and the negative audience response is a result of real-word homophobia/discomfort. A non-issue imo.

After the way the star beast concluded I was initially let down so my expectations for this episode slightly lowered, I wasn’t expecting Matt smith or Capaldi to return or anything but part of me was still highly anticipating this because from the trailers we had of the 60th specials very little of WBY was shown. I ended up watching this together with some of my mates (two of whom weren’t Doctor who fans) and I’m so glad this episode turned out to be brilliant 😂😂 I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, I even jumped when wilf showed at the end! I can understand why you didn't really think much about this episode and I agree the emotional scene with the doctor and the not thing Donna was good, the idea of the not things was quite good because they would be very dangerous if they went into the doctors universe and it can be creepy sometimes with duplicates and that
@Omni_G9 ай бұрын
Imagine the TARDIS having a system that ditches you in a place so dangerous that it had to run away. Like, it didn't even try to fetch the Doctor & Donna, it literally went "Y'all on your own." While The Star Beast was good but got alright after watching it a couple of times, Wild Blue Yonder for me, does the opposite. I had the same reaction as you when I first watch it. The Not-Things felt weird (Not-Donna is scary af tho), some times it felt like it took a while before it got to the exciting moments. But it definitely gets better. From what I've heard, people mention this episode feels more like a regular Doctor Who episode & is kind of a way to show people new to the series what an episode of Doctor Who might be like when it's not a special, though I might be wrong. One small issue I do have though is how tf the Doctor knows exactly where the vehicle is? The episode does up the danger level by removing his sonic & the TARDIS so all he can rely on is his intelligence, except thinking would make the Not-Things become them faster. Add to the fact that they're in a confided area & in the middle of absolutely nowhere where they can't go outside or call for help? Oh boy... When Not-Donna said, "We came from the nothing", I like to think she isn't saying they came from nothing but rather from The Nothing, because why say "the nothing"? Why not just "We came from nothing"? What if The Nothing is a realm where the Not-Things are originally from? What if The Nothing is a name of an entity like the Doctor, the Master, or the Toymaker, that creates the Not-Things? I honestly don't mind seeing the Not-Things again in a future episode, felt like there's more to them than we've seen, though that could just be me wanting my The Nothing theory to be right. Not in your reaction, but I don't really quite get when Not-Doctor says, "When something is gone, it keeps existing." Could anyone eli5 what he means? "It destroyed half the universe because of me. We stand here now on the edge of creation, a creation which I devastated. So, yes, I keep running. Of course I do. How am I supposed to look back on that?" "It wasn't your fault!" "I know!" plus the scene where the Doctor is just raging out, punching & kicking the walls? Absolutely love those 2 scenes and are my favourite in this entire episode. I really love moments where we see the Doctor just letting his emotions out. From the heroic image we usually see where he saves the day, we're reminded from these moments that the Doctor does have struggles, he does get angry, he does get sad, he does have regrets, he can feel lost at times, he does get lonely, & he can be in pain. In a way, it makes the Doctor feel more relatable to us. I also love how we see the emotions 13th has been hiding. There are times in 13th's era where it felt like 13th always held back her true feelings. The only time I remember her screaming in anger & frustration was in, I believe, The Timeless Child, & that was towards the Master, not her fam. After the Timeless Child & Flux incidents, it still felt like she was hiding her pain from everyone, trying to remain cheerful, but in this episode, the Doctor lets everything out. The Doctor didn't cause the Flux but it happened because of him. Billions of lives lost, planets destroyed, many now without a home, & the Doctor felt that it was all because of him. Honestly, and I really hope it's not just me, whenever I'm stuck on a complex question that I've been racking my brain on how to solve, I kinda act like the Doctor and go, "Let me think, let me think, let me think." It's kinda fun actually! BTW, not sure if you caught it, but in that same scene, the Doctor goes, "The captain of the ship, circling round and round forever. Caught in the gravity field." He didn't say mavity, instead he said gravity, which is why Donna got confused because after their accident with Isaac Newton, people now call "gravity" "mavity". The timeline has now changed & it seems like the Doctor isn't affected, he's just going along with it. Also, welcome to the Mavity era! Didn't really quite like the TARDIS saving the day at the end to be honest, kinda felt Deus ex Machina imo. When Donna was revealed to make a return, I remember everyone being worried because they thought RTD was gonna kill of Donna, & when "Best 55 seconds of my life" happened, everyone just had to get ready to hold back the floodgates if Donna did die in The Star Beast. Fortunately, she lived... then 6:25 fking happened. You real something RTD, you real something. Oh my gosh! It's Wilf! o7 And yes! This is what I've been waiting for in Doctor Who! The sense of danger from the background characters & not just the characters of the episode to show how dangerous things are getting! People screaming & fighting! A fking plane going down & exploding! THIS! This is what I want to see! Make the threat feel like a threat.

It kind of takes a poke at AI... what with it never getting the hands and arms right 😂 but i was so creeped out by this ep... and having seen how the made it...made me appreciate it even more... RTD wanted to give these two something to really get there teeth into... literally 😂 and its so beautifully acted!! Two tennant and tates... acting geniuses!! The bit where the Doctor grabbed Donna's hand... omg i missed this type of relationship between the Doctor and companion... the hugs, the comforting etc... For once i emotionally care about the Timeless child and flux arc... im also glad RTD hasnt ignored it... and has added more layers to it.... for the Doctor... And Wilf... this was his last and only scene unfortunately due to Bernard's health getting worse... and not long passing away... im so glad we got this final scene ... rest well old soldier... Overall i love watching this ep again and again and picking up the finer details of the acting...the naunce differences Tate and Tennant bring to their two characters... And its a different way to do a multi Doctor as well 😂... star beast had The Doctor and Donna and Binary Non binary Doctor Rose... this has the Doctor and NotThing (such a clever name) Doctor... people were disappointed for it not having Matt or Peter... but i prefer it this way... not a cameo for the sake of it... but a story ... GIGGLE NEXT! Nearly there and we all be at the same page 😁

Shame you didn't care much about most of this episode, but to each their own! It's probably my favourite since Heaven Sent. Weird creepy monsters are right up my alley. Seeing Wilf at the end was just wonderful. Yeah, the Isaac Newton scene is weird. Newton was indeed white, it's also very odd for the Doctor to go "1666, man holding an apple, must be Newton!" as if no one else held an apple in 1666. Not to mention the fact that the apple falling (there's no evidence that it fell on his head) didn't suddenly inspire him to think of gravity; gravity was a known force already, he just advanced and formalised aspects of it. The specific word "gravity" had also been in use for plenty of time by then. Just a very strange scene overall.

Yeah this is kind of a Midnight/Edge of Destruction weird episode. I do like it, and i think it has amazing moments. The bit where The Doctor talks about how he imagines the Tardis goes to an outcrop somewhere, and the rise and fall of a civilisation around it while the Tardis remains. It's great. I'm glad RTD is still doing weird episodes, even if they aren't all for me. It had enough that i like about his writing, and i like the reference to The Doctor's trauma regarding what happened during the Flux and timeless child revelation. I'm glad it's not just been ignored, even if i'm not a fan of the timeless child generally. It's an episode that i think improved on my second watch. I'd give this a 7 maybe a 7.5 out of 10. Which isn't terrible, but it's pretty mid for RTD overall. I preferred Star Beast. But the next one is my favorite of the specials.

I didnt fully understand the plot on first viewing like with the countdown and such. There is just this eerie unknowning feeling you get which is the same feeling i get with midnight. The flux and timeless child mentions were really good and just shows you how good it could have been had chibnall bothered to show more how much it was effecting the doctor. Now that you have seen this. It's safe to tell you that rtd not only said he is not going to ignore the timeless child, but it is going to be a key story point going forward and he is going to build upon it. So it could effectively become what the time war was for new who in terms of an overarching story. And i have a lot more faith in rtd to make it interesting than i do chibnall honestly

The opening Newton scene feels like a draft of a comic relief sketch RTD didn’t wanna let go… The rest of the episode felt a lot better than the previous. (Mostly) I’m glad the sonic got written out after the last episode, but since when has the sonic been needed to repair the console?! Implying the Doctor is gay - ‘was never far from the surface’ is moronic since when Donna knew him he still loved Rose - so he was apparently straight- so where’s this coming from RTD? I wouldn’t mind exploring the Doctor’s sexuality but from the POV that he doesn’t care about sexuality or gender and just loves unconditionally. The boasting about large budgets and improved VFX leading up to this made the effects even more laughable in this episode. This episode was NEARLY scary, the scene when we are introduced to the duplicate ‘Not Things’ is really unsettling, but is ruined by the long arms and jaw shit and the stupid giant Doctor and Donna. The dialogue scenes are great and work so well, but the ridiculous effects absolutely killed the vibe. This would have been a good opportunity for a multidoctor episode with a twist, with the not things exploring the Doctor and creating evil past incarnations - Matt Smith wants to come back as a villain ya know? I’m not a timeless child fan, and wasn’t bothered about Flux either, but it was great to see that those events carry serious emotional weight. 14 seems more affected by it than 13 did… better acting, maybe 🤷♂️

@anonymousms2005 RTD implied he was thinking about bringing people back, but decided to stick to his guns and have an episode with just DT and CT - so why include that Newton shiz at the beginning?! Anyway…

Yeah, the “never very far from the surface” was weird because we never saw that with Ten.

Personally I didn’t think any of these specials were that good. I commented on the trailer saying would’ve been better if they had maybe daleks in it as a big final but the specials were just kinda random and weird personally. Not bad but not as good as they could’ve been

I know there was a number of complaints and negative reviews from fandom regarding The Isaac Newton character because it was played by an indian actor personally it doesn't bother me i'm only interested in the acting than the race of the actor and i thought he did a good job however the "mavity" thing is worrying.
@HamzaReactz9 ай бұрын
Race swapping him is just unnecessary. White guy so just get a white guy to play him :)

@@HamzaReactzThank you 👏 Imagine the uproar if they race swapped MLK or Rosa Parks.
@Rik779 ай бұрын
I thought it was just a bit of fun, I mean it's a made up version of Isaac anyway in a 2 min gag scene. It would be different if it was a historical episode all about newton. Also its a hint at history being a bit messed around with that seems to be an ongoing thing, moving the doctor who universe away from resembling our own. And off screen i thought it was funny that the hate it got plays directly into the plot of The Giggle 😂
@thetemporaljellybaby10409 ай бұрын
@@darkwolf7740 MLK and Rosa Parks being black is absolutely crucial to their stories. It would be a stretch to say the same applies to Isaac Newton being white. Nevertheless, I do see your point, but I don't think the comparison holds for that reason.

This concept has been done better before in the Midnight episode.. not exactly the same but it felt so much like a bad retelling of that story that i too got bored quickly

It's "Doctor Who" it's suppose to be weird 😂 surely you know that by now we must be watching a different show then for me i didn't find this boring at all i was hooked from start to finish i honest to god thought Donna was going to die in this episode i do get however there are some odd bits that might be off-putting but you know nothing's perfect. I disagree on the timeless child i think RTD should ignore it like he did with the half-human thing from "The TV Movie" and left it stay with the Jodie Whittaker era and let the Doctor be what he is a Time Lord from Gallifrey travelling in a phone box i get that RTD wants to not erase any of his friend Chris Chibnall's work that's fine i understand that but it doesn't mean he should have to address or acknowledge it either because it is not a popular storyline and it's just going to switch most people off it's wrecking and undoing what other writers worked on from 60 years ago who are long since deceased including the Davros thing which is not RTD's creation it's Terry Nation's and he would have been furious had he been alive to see what RTD has done if i was the showrunner i would had gotten rid of this timeless child completely get rid of the soap opera and go back to what Dr. Who is a science fiction program. Last ever appearance of Wilfred Mott.

Another reason this episode is kinda lame is that it was over hyped (even more than the previous episode) - there was very little shown of this ep in trailers and promotion so we expected something massive - instead we got a slow ass episode with a rushed conclusion (again), more out of place gender politics and horrific CGI
@Joey158119 ай бұрын
Newton - hate the race swap of a real historical figure. Pointless scene just to set up a running gag which has outstayed already. Gravity cant be called Mavity otherwise new viewers get confused Outside of that theres a lack of characters for this one to bounce of. Just another doctor and donna version. Which is creepy but I need more characters really. Why heaven sent I dislike. Some creepy visuals though. Wilf scene is this episodes saving grace. Sadly the actor could only film this scene. He past away before filming the final one
