AirPods Pro 2 Hearing Aid Tutorial

I have severe hearing loss, according to the test. I just received these on Christmas, yesterday, and took the hearing test. Getting the test to finally work took hours. It was arduous for me, but I kept trying and finally succeeded. I just wanted to say to others of you who also have severe hearing loss (one over 70 DB, the other over 80) I still could hear better immediately. I'm wearing them now as hearing aids, but have a lot to learn to be comfortable with the controls. I've tried 2 of those otc hearing assist units. I spent a great deal of time with them. Neither worked for me. It was horribly discouraging and, tenacious as I've always been, I gave up. This is the first gift I can remember ever receiving that made me cry for joy. Literally! At over 70 yo, that should be an indication as to how monumental this can be for us!

Just imagine if you even had low grade Rx hearing aids programmed properly. Your mind would probably be blown!

Just got these for Xmas. I had a m80 firecracker go off next to my left year and since then I’ve had issues my audiologist says it’s not necessarily bad enough for hearing aids yet but I’m headed that way my wife is tired of me saying “what” so she bought these for me. Looking forward to seeing if the help

My iPad won’t complete the hearing test despite accepting update to 18.2. Anyone know what the problem is? Went to Apple for help and the technician was good, but he couldn’t figure it out and I’m waiting for a call back next week. Wondering if I need to buy a new IPhone or IPad, although the technician says mine should work with the update.

I would ❤ it when Apple would develop an external ‘live listen’ device you can add (on your clothing, on a table). Much like the iphone function, but then an external device. and then you can use the airpods and iphone to connect.

I had a lot of trouble at first also. Never updated - found comments on Apple community that said when theirs failed to update, a trip to the Apple Store indicated they were fakes. One person had purchased their fakes from Walmart. Another comment from Apple community indicated that a defective case can make it impossible to update the AirPods. I bought mine from Costco, so I took mine back and got a new pair. New pair had updated software out of the box. I just wasn’t going to mess around back and forth, and make several trips to the Apple Store, etc.

It would be good if you could compare Samsung Galaxy Pro3 vs apple's airpods pro 2 for hearing purposes. I have the galaxy and happy with it (amplifies a lot) but i wonder if the apple's option is much better, before making the investment.

I went to a dumb phone, a Nokia 2780 instead of a smart phone..But it says it's KaiOS..and is Bluetooth compatible. I have behind the ear, non-rechargeable hearing aids I do not like and thinking perhaps Apple Ipods will work on the Nokia after I set up an account.. In any event this is a good explanation of the entire process..(though I may find out I still need a smart phone to have Ipod hearing aids)...

After hours with apple support, I discovered the reason my AirPods Pro 2 would not connect as a hearing aid device and why "Hearing Assistance" would not show up. We are Canadian!!!! They have not been approved as a hearing aid device in Canada. Mine are going back to the store because they guaranteed they would work. Perhaps Apple should update and inform stores that sell these devices of this issue!

You must program them with an iPhone or iPad(?). Then you can use them with an Android phone. Haven't tried it, though. I switched to iPhone for the better compatibility with my hearing aids. Also, ownership of the AirPods is assigned to the whoever owns the iPhone. Probably not worth the effort (and irritation to the iPhone owner).

You need to set them up with an Apple device. However, you can use them standalone after setting them up.

Do I understand correctly: Media Assist will apply corrections to the sound of any attached or Bluetooth media (eg a speaker, non-Airpod Pro 2 hear buds, etc)? So I won’t need to use my hearing aids - or the AirPod Pro 2 - when playing a podcast, for example?

One of the important things Apple doesn’t mention is that for some reason, the AirPod Air 2 won’t work for hearing impaired folks unless they have an iPhone or iPad new enough to run IOS 18. A selling gimmick??? Sure seems that way.

It looks to me as though most people are pleased with the results. I however am not. Once I have them up and running, I will occasionally get a little chirp and for a second they sound good. After a second or two they fade down then chirp again and it repeats. Quite annoying. I have two sets of AirPods Pro 2 (one brand new) and they both do this. Is anyone else having this issue?

I’ll add that this chirping happens in both transparency and adapted modes. With the hearing feature turned off, they work fine.

No, I am NOT in the right place. YES, I have those AirPods (pro 2) but due to my location (United Kingdom) it is not possible to use them as hearing aids with the latests iOS 18... We have to wait for "approval" from the authorities... 🤷🏻‍♀️

With the rollout of 18.2 the uk has approved the feature and you should have it available. If not check to see if your phone and airbuds have the latest update.

@@DEEPITAKHI My apologies. It seems I was wrong. Somehow I heard that it had just gotten approved for use in the UK. Maybe it was just the hearing test that you mentioned you have, or maybe it's in the beta version of ios 18.3. I'll keep looking and if I see anything else I'll post it here.
