Recently I just had the exam done. The Maryland exam" after I completed the exam the Dr. went over the exam results, she said I had significant hearing loss in my left ear like 90% which I knew this, what surprised me when she said I had hearing loss in my Right ear as well and as you said she said I needed to make and appointment to get hearing aides, the doctor did say I would be compensated for my hearing loss and I was surprised by her matter of fact statement is that normal?

GT FORD 427 + GT Ford 427 Based on personal experience: Contact your local VA Rep and discuss in person. My husband's VA Rep was of great help and did the paperwork for him that can be tedious. They look things up on a computer and may help, by discovery, in other ways Vets don't know they qualify regarding benefits and compensation. Also, if a Vet doesn't qualify now, they need to try again in the future because qualifications change. For example, if a Viet Nam Vet or a Vet stationed in S. Korea where Agent Orange was experimented, the list of health related issues from Agent Orange has grown. All Vets deserve to get benefits and/or compensation after serving our Country. One that surprised me when selling Real Estate ( long ago) were the Vets that didn't know they could purchase a home with no money down. Is 100 percent financing and at a lower interest rate! This, in itself, is a great benefit and well earned.

Process for compensation was the first place I went. Mine was from jet aircraft engines as well as the 50 caliber and 30 caliber weapons. The doctor I first went to was totally denying my claim. I finally got a different Doctor and she agreed that it happened while I was in the military. She asked me several questions and said I had a considerable hearing loss and the screaming ringing in my ears sounded like a T-37 scream inside my head. I got my rating for both hearing loss and tinnitus. Thank God I have found that while my hearing aides are in my ears the ringing is gone. It wakes me up at night sometimes.

What I have learned in this compensation and health care process, that there are a lot of people and entities that make money at the veterans expense, form the dark dingy doctors office that looks like a back alley abortion clinic, the middle man contract scheduler (VES, QTC), to people who run taxi or shuttle service for the veteran to and from appointments. Everyone benefits except the guy or gal living with issues every day.

Hello Dr. Cliff Olson,I listened 3:47 and you suggested filing a V.A. 21-526EZ ,going a VSO person you also mentioned getting checked by a V.A. examiner . Most Veterans get denied ,because of no current medical diagnosis for their claim.Most V.A. Doctors/Examiners and especially C&P Examiners gives a rats behind about us Veterans and definely are not in our best interest,but rather the V.A. .A Veteran needs a current diagnosis for their claim and the correct doctors who is specialized in that area,or an medical internist professional,or not?A 21-4138 should also be written,explaining briefly how their condition is service connected,how the condition affects their daily life"family,relationships and ability to work and maintain a job,any limitations and how severe it is.Too many of us are being deceived and lied to continually .

I was an 84D20 audio specialist at Ft Myer in Virginia. We set up large sound and recording systems for reviews that had to cover whole parade fields. The ceremonies sometimes included howitzer salutes by the Third Infantry ceremonial unit, and the US Army Field Band.Things got rather loud sometimes. This was 1969-71. But if you are an E5 and at the controls of General Westmorland's or Sec of the Army Stanley Resor's mike, you probably don't want them to see you are wearing earplugs! After service I worked as a recording engineer, and later owned a sound company for 24 years. So I have depended on my ears working well for my livelihood all my life. I now have constant tinnitus in both ears and, by my own simple testing, hearing loss above 7-8kHz and probably midrange loss of consonants of speech. Going to VA hearing test in April. Can they fit me with hearing aids that will correctly compensate me for losses at various frequencies to give me accurate hearing? I am still asked to mix sound for local theater productions but am not confident I can accurately do that?

As an audiologist, I just wanted to say: PLEASE do not fake or exaggerate a hearing loss. We can tell that your exaggerating immediately. This is what we do for a living; we do it all day, every day. If you have a bit of a hearing loss but try to exaggerate it, the audiologist will know that the results are not valid and will not count you having a hearing loss at all! You will get more benefit from a mild hearing loss than from a fake hearing loss, in which you won’t get anything. Be honest to get the most benefit.

I know of 2 people that are faking hearing loss. They both have been rated 30% for hearing loss/tinnitus. Both are still able to pass an FAA hearing test that has a much higher standard for hearing than the standards set forth for VA hearing loss compensation. You may catch some, but my guess is you don't catch as many as you think.

Would be great to see you put together a video explanation on how to use the 38 CFR regulation tables and the audiogram results along with the Speech Discrimination scores and determine if you are rated correctly. It is probably the biggest questions we see daily from our disabled vets group of 60k+ vets. After many years of fighting an increase request denial with 6 Maryland CNC tests performed out of pocket I realized how tough they can be on hearing loss ratings. I have found it quite easy to translate after much study but feel a detailed , step by step video would be much better. Thanks for another great video.

I was in the field artillery as a cannon crew member. I filed a claim for hearing loss went to the VA got tested and service connected for it but a 0% rating which is common. When there I told the nurse about the ringing in my ears, and she said we will also test for Tinnitus. Turns out you need to file a separate claim for that which I did and brought the service connection letter with me showing the hearing loss due to service connection. The Dr was annoyed with the VA that they did not mention the tinnitus and made me come in for the tinnitus test. She did the test said my hearing has actually gotten worse and said I will be getting a letter from the VA showing service connection for tinnitus. Was easy straight forward nurse was great.

Not so simple. I was evaluated many years ago and awarded 10% tinnitus and 10% hearing. I get periodic hearing tests and - to give an example there is the 'say the word rat' test. My score varies all over - 20 to 80 % depending on (1) how bad the tinnitus AND (2) if they are using the same words as last time - there seems to be a set they use and I know a lot of them - and sometimes they don't even do 10 words.

vestibular neuronitis is an infection and should have been treated. Hard to get to a service connection with that. Meniere’s is chronic - some believe its hereditary. Again very hard to come up with service connection as it has no known cause. Ask about BPPV - it can be caused by injury and hearing loss as the destruction of the inner ear hairs trigger this.

I think a lot of vets go crazy trying to get rated for Hearing Loss because it is more of a bragging rights issue than a practical claim. If a vet is rated for it, then he/she can legitimately tell people that they "lost part of their hearing in XXX Service Branch" due to a "training accident/combat action/flightline duty," etc. Definitely one of those bar stories that impresses civilians and even other veterans. But if you're actually rated for it, it sucks to have and you will wish you didn't have it at all. A Hearing Loss rating also helps to backup a Tinnitus rating because a small minority of vets do unfortunately slip through and get a Tinnitus rating by lying about it. Hearing Loss can't be faked, so having Tinnitus as secondary to a Hearing Loss rating lends credibility that you really have it. All that said, it's just not worth pursuing as many have noted, unless you have a substantial in-service records that would make getting the rating fairly easy and beneficial to your situation as a veteran.

So I'm new to the industry, but we have a lot of veterans that come get hearing tests after being denied. Or are sent to us by the VA. But we are an independent company & we try our best to help them. One of the things I've found very odd. Is that it seems that the only factor that goes into compensation or whether they get aids is the WRS1 score. I had a combat engineer the other day that had a moderate to severe loss, but because he did well on WRS1 scores the VA paperwork said he wasn't eligible. But as I understand it, WRS1 testing is more or less giving them the proper amplification to correct the loss. So how on earth is that making them ineligible for hearing aids?

I was telling her that she was loud and she came and readjusted my headset and said don't take it off. From then on i felt a different attitude from her, my question is, can a person have get bad hearing over time from my old military days of working around jet engines? If your hearing loss is not bad enough to get compensated for it, consider yourself lucky. You have to be damned near deaf to get money from the VA for hearing loss, so by that time, your quality of life would be so bad that the extra little bit of money is lame compared to having better hearing. HUH??? needless to say when I left I was confused as to why would they even have me take the test just to waste time? This was in Houston tx, I have since moved to another state and went to the va there and the audiologist there said yes you do have hearing loss however this is not for a claim.....what???? I worked on a flight deck with fighter jets and cheap ear plugs (get this the range where I had the loss was the higher dbs) . She ordered me a sound pillow which works great for me so I can have ambient noise but the ringing is so loud, she also told me that if the pillow does not work out then they would have to recommend a psychiatrist. Dr Cliff I have service connected hearing lose bilateral so it state on my services record. The only thing is that va only gave me tinnitus when i filed VA does not tell you that hearing lose is a seperate code and very difficult to get all due to the speach recorgination test which we all know it's in a control enviorment. I am fighting to get a higher compensation because of hearing lose their denied it and now asking for a higher review. I believe my audiogolist did not use MCL UCL to indicate my hearing to take the test Dr only ask what i can hear confrontablely, How should i proceed from here. Thank you for your information very helpful.

Well I found out about it from an email that was sent to a select group. The info is on the web. I’m not sure if it’s legitimate though however I put a claim in for long term side effects
@csucujo
@csucujo 5 жыл бұрын
peter barwick thx for the quick response. Hmm...I’ll do my research on it. I had no idea that there were long term side effects. It was mandatory for all Marines in my unit to get the anthrax series shots. I got out before I could get all of them. They told us that it was safe to get these shots. I never heard anything from any other veterans about them. Let me know how that works out for you. I recently filed for Tinnitus this year and it was denied - NOT service connected. I worked on the flight line with helicopters. I filed 20 years after I got out...maybe that’s why it was denied. I was angry about it, but I got over it. Perhaps, the VA is tightening the lid down on these service connected claims. Who knows? Laterz bro, salute. 🇺🇸✊

Also, the anthrax shot debacle, in my opinion, wasn’t supposed to be let out to the public yet. It’s like the gulf war syndrome, or even agent orange from Vietnam. The government tries to keep stuff like that under wraps but it always seems to come out, thankfully ....

Doctor Cliff, AuD Hi Doctor Cliff thanks for your reply. Let's say scenario 1. patient does have modest hearing loss and tinnitus with mild Dizziness spells with onset of tinnitus but doesn’t get dizzy in every episode of tinnitus. 2. Patient experiences episodes of tinnitus with some dizzy spells but not always and no hearing loss. Also how many occasions of tinnitus must occur to even be rated by the VA? Say you only have tinnitus 5 times a week and then a whole week goes by with no occurrences? I guess I should download the DBQ would answer some of my questions. I am 52 my stepfather is 71 he was Navy Vietnam I was USCG buoy tender. The VA denied his tinnitus and hearing loss claim he told me that the VA stated his is tinnitus and hearing loss is age related. I am afraid that they will tell me the same thing. I am going to a private audiologist for my own opinion. I doubt that the private audiologist will help me service connect but at least I will get a diagnosis.

As hard as it is to get even 0% for a Hearing Loss rating, Congress needs to revise the law and change it to where if you qualify for 0%, you get 10% instead. At 0%, your quality of life suffers significantly at times so you should be compensated for it just like Tinnitus. People should contact the DAV and their reps to try and get this changed.

@DrCliffAuD
@DrCliffAuD 6 жыл бұрын
Amount of hearing loss doesn't necessarily correlate with how disabled you are. I presume your level of hearing loss is treatable in some fashion which impacted your disability percentage. You are free to appeal the rating.

Doctor Cliff, AuD You are right, because after I had the evaluation was done , the Doctor told me to make an appointment where I had the test done so I could be fitted with hearing aides however the letter I received from the VA rated me at 90% but awarded 10% so, as you stated I suppose the hearing aides make up for the other 80%

I was recently awarded 20% disability for bilateral hearing loss, combined with 10% for tinnitus, I now receive 30% total disability. The tests are performed in "sound proof" booths, with out the "real world" type of distracting background noise. The 20% just seemed too low for me. Can I appeal and ask for a higher award for the bilateral hearing loss based on; my inability to clearly understand "words", "letters", or effectively interact in social settings, meetings, etc.? Although, I hear a noise, I cannot understand the words or what people are saying. For example; you say "B" (Bee), I might hear "C" (See) or "D" (Dee) or "E" or "G" or "P" or "T" or "Z", etc. I totally miss the questions or answers at meetings and cannot understand the sermon at church. People laugh, but have missed the joke or punch line, I have no idea what they are laughing at, I just laugh to play along.
