From my experience I would add those tips: 1) try to sleep 1 extra hour and focus on getting quality sleep. Ideally go sleep earlier. See if it makes your dry eyes better 2) if you work with PC, try to move it away from you so the hot air from the PC is not coming to your eyes (for example during online video calls your PC produces a lot of hot air). I just put my desktop PC on the other side of my room and use long cables 3) for me more important than omega 3 was Vitamin D3. Supplement at least 6000 IU per day for 3 months and see if it makes any difference. It helped me with inflammation and I dont get so many meibomian glands plugs anymore. You can safely go up to 10000 IU per day.

I’m confused. I have eye allergies and dry eye. I’ve started using pataday to calm down the inflammation due to allergies (which dry my eyes out) but it contains BAK. Similarly, allaway preservative free is also apparently not great for dry eye. What can I use for my eye allergies that doesn’t worsen dry eye? I don’t want to leave it untreated, but don’t want to harm my dry eye while trying to treat it
@OdinTheUnderwhelming9 ай бұрын
I second this question
@DoctorEyeHealth9 ай бұрын
That is a really good question! I often do reach for preservative free alaway. Oral antihistamines can sometimes help but often makes dryness worse. Some of my patients have had good success with using topical cyclosporine to help (for both dryness and allergie sensations). Otherwise there is a new allergy type drop from Optase - I haven't tried it yet but it looks like it could be an option, it is preservative free.
@brydanrogers76089 ай бұрын
@@DoctorEyeHealthgotcha, perfect thanks I will try these! Thanks for your content, binge watching your videos has been extremely useful for me! So just to confirm, the BAK in pataday makes it not worth using? That's a really interesting question. I've wondered the same about hot Sun on the face. Apparently 40-45celcius is the ideal temperature range for warm compresses, so your sauna theoretically should do the job..
@DoctorEyeHealth9 ай бұрын
Really good question! Publications show the temperature of the meibum melts at various ranges (the more inflamed the higher the temperature required). 40-44 degrees Celcius is often quoted as the ideal temperature for the glands but 45 degrees on the skin can potentially burn the skin. I have never seen a study on using a sauna but myself and several other doctors believe it would help. I wish I had a sauna so I could run a study on that lol.

I have had a few things done to my left eye. The first procedure was a Trabeculectomy of the left eye to reduce intraocular pressure. My eye doctor discovered i had a viral infection in the left eye.After using an oral medication to reduce the infection, My next procedure was a cataract removal with insertion of a lens. Even with the new lens my vision was still cloudy. I was told to wait a couple of months to see if the vision improved. Actually my vision was worse. After that i had a test done to examine the cornea. The result was a clouding at the back of the cornea. My next operation was a partial removal of the cornea, and inserting a doner piece of cornea. The result was a great improvement in vision. However, this vision began to deteriorate. Having a discussion with my doctor, we decided not to have another corneal partial replacement. All these procedures have made my left eye very dry.

@DoctorEyeHealth2 ай бұрын
There are a couple of things a bump or pimple on the eyelid could be. Do you have a follow up for the LASIK scheduled? If so, I would definitely ask them for an assessment. Various eyelid styes usually do go away on their own but can be helped with warm compresses, sometimes medication can be prescribed. Because the eye is technically still healing from the LASIK, best to consult a local eye doctor, just to be sure.

The better oil- filled radiator heaters take way too long to get warm in the morning when we have to start using our offices immediately. My office temp upon arrival is usually 60° and I’ve seen 58 already this year. The space heaters have to run for a couple hours just to get to 65°. Lack of central heating or central air conditioning is harsh for eyes. A humidifier helps a tiny bit, but still can’t get it past about 50% …. What might the TBUT (Tear Film Break Up Time) of you, dear doctor, be? Could you share? You said you also have dry eyes.

Hello, are there any effective eye drops which will remove my red eyes but don't have preservatives?
@midnightblue32267 ай бұрын
Bit late replying but best thing l have found is Thealoz Duo eyedrops(preservative free) bit expensive but last for 6 months so there is no waste. I just use them twice a day. I had terribly red sore eyes for ages and tried various things but these were the only drops that worked, as soon as I stop using them my eyes become red and sore again...really can't recommend them enough...

Any tips for Dry rubbery feeling contacts towards the end of the day? I’ve tried different contact solutions but it doesn’t seem to make much of a difference
@DoctorEyeHealth7 ай бұрын
Pretty much all contact lenses have end of the day dryness feelings. Sometimes switching to a better/newer contact lens works better. I find good success with Daily total 1/ Precision 1s as well as Bausch and Lomb Infuse. The Acuvue Max lenses may work well too but I personally have not tried those yet.

Agreed about screen use. Tricky if you work in an environment where you use screens and in your downtime enjoy tv iPads and phones an optician in emergency hospital said my eyes very dry although sight average for my age. He suggested using any cheap basic eye drops. I will check out ones I am using think they Optrex refreshing drops which make the eyes feel cool and pleasant. I wipe my eyes with cool water and cotton wool as I get allergies from pollen etc or find in general it helps. I think consuming organic eggs and tinned sardines may help me as well. But for me I think problem started noticeably in my mid 40’s or if I had consumed alcohol in quantity night before. Basically keep eyes clean in a very gentle manner and avoid excessive viewing of screens eat well and dont forget to sleep 8 hours my eyes always feel better if rested and if I clean them with cool water or if I notice any redness around lashes then Optrex eye bath works for me……but I will check for chemicals that maybe counterproductive.

Thx Doc for your precious tips. One question, how long can we wear soft contacts per day?
@DoctorEyeHealth9 ай бұрын
Hey thanks for asking. Soft contact lenses can usually be worn easily for 12-16 hours a day, but the longer you wear them, the more likely people will feel discomfort and dryness.

What are NAC DROPS used for? Can you suggest any lubricant or gel for eyes
@DoctorEyeHealth7 ай бұрын
NAC drops are marketed that they can help reduce or reverse cataracts but there is limited evidence if they work or not. Some of my favorite eye drops include, Ivizia, Refresh Mega 3, Systane Complete PF, Optase MGD. All of these can usually be found at any pharmacy in the US.

@DoctorEyeHealth hmm. Thank u but I guess won't be available in India. Just heard about Nac drops. Will it harm upon usage please reply

Do you have any videos on Ptygerium? I’ve had dry eyes for a very long time and now my eye doctor told me I also have Ptygerium, but surgery for that causes dry eyes. What can be done for Ptygerium without surgery?

Another bad habit, or lack of a good habit, is not drinking enough water. If your whole body is chronically dehydrated, your eyes are going to be too. After struggling for several years with dry eyes, I have recently increased my water intake and my eyes are now much better.

Hi, I first saw this channel as I was looking for the best smartphone display for my eyes and came across you Dr. Perhaps this information was on one of your videos or maybe someone asked, but I'm going to bring it up again. I'm interested in your opinion on such methods as Bates suggested, or on physical exercises for the eyes in general? I apologize in advance for the grammar, as I am using a translator.

Any info on MLT laser treatment (I have ocular hypertension and dry eyes) and the impact on dry eyes? I'm very interested in having this laser treatment, especially because I'm still young and can't imagine drops for the rest of my life. Also just a video on laser treatments would be awesome 😊
