I went to an ophthalmologist and had them analyze exactly what I needed. They did an amazing job and it was life changing for my IT job. However, they didn't see blue light blocking technology as necessary since the sun and being outside provides 100x more exposure.
@DoctorEyeHealth2 жыл бұрын
For the argument about blue light causing retinal damage, that is true, the sun gives way more blue light energy.
@xhen122 жыл бұрын

SUMMARY: - Comparison between computer glasses and blue light glasses for relieving digital eye strain. - Computer glasses are designed with magnification power for near objects, particularly for the distance of a computer screen. - Reading glasses can sometimes be used as computer glasses, but they're typically optimized for closer objects. - Computer glasses alleviate muscle tension and eye fatigue caused by prolonged screen use. - Blue light glasses have various designs, including reflectors or filtered lenses to reduce blue light exposure from screens and LED bulbs. - Blue light can impact melatonin production and disrupt sleep cycles, making blue light glasses beneficial for some users. - Blue light glasses are often non-prescription and can be combined with computer glasses for added protection. - Gaming glasses are essentially computer glasses with blue light filters, usually available in non-prescription options. - Finding the right power for computer glasses involves considerations such as age and individual eye muscle status, best determined by an eye care professional. - Age influences the appropriate power of computer glasses, with younger individuals typically needing lower powers and older individuals requiring stronger prescriptions.

Initially I thought they helped, but then started trying my readers and found them much better. I don't get eyestrain, but I do notice easier focusing with my readers. I went to eye exam to confirm, I still have 20/20, but she wanted to provise 'reading glasses' mainly because insurance paid, so I waived that to just keep my standard readers. She offered a bigger number than I'm comfortable with, my long distance is superb.

I use software for those needs. In most (if not all) modern operating systems, you can set a blue light - reduction mode to kick in at a specific time (for example several hours before your bedtime) and then return back to normal lighting in the morning. Smartphones also have this capability. For eye strain - you can increase the scale from the display settings. So, those needs can be addressed with no need of special tools, other than software settings in your OS. If you're prescribed reading glasses and feel the need to use it, when you're in front of a computer - then, by all means do.

What is the difference between having magnification to help with convergence vs a prism vs a small ADD in the bottom (like Essilor anti fatigue/sightrelax)? I had a concussion and was given a 2 fresnel prism and told to wear them with a no rx lenses for computer work (I am nearsighted with a -2.00 rx for distance). However I was also told I would benefit from a small ADD of 0.6 for my distance lenses, but not to put the fresnel on my distance lenses. Would combining computer glasses with the 0.25 magnification along with the prism potentially provide additional benefit? When would you choose a fresnel prism over magnification for up close reading and vice versa? Similarly when would you choose the 0.25 magnification over the 0.4 ADD (0.4 is the lowest available) of the anti fatigue lenses? From my understanding they all help with convergence but with different mechanisms. There seems to be so many opinions it’s very difficult as a consumer to navigate! Thanks for helping to demystify the eyecare world with your videos!

Yes! I use computer glasses combined with blue light screen film. They are so much clearer and eye strain comfortable than my multi focal glasses (which caused me to hold my head at the small band focal length). I set my computer glasses at approx 36" length from the screen. I like to lean back on the office chair and watch video's, etc. I go back to the multi focal glasses especially when typing because the keyboard is naturally too close for the keyboard when a lot of typing is necessary. I also purchase a pair of reading glasses to allow easy book or letter reading, All three glasses sit on top of my printer and I flick them around as required. The reading glasses used infrequently. The multi focal ones used when I want to turn around a bit to view a bit of the TV news or game show.

When I recently was prescribed glasses for astigmatism (I had blurry vision after staring at my phone and books for too long) my doctor warned me about using them “when I didn’t need them” because of eye-muscle atrophy. He said to use them as a tool when my vision felt strained, but not to use them every time I read, since we want our eye muscles to still “exercise,” as it were (to use your lifting analogy). What do you think about this? Is it better to always use the glasses when reading (on my phone and books) to reduce the amount of weight (5lbs instead of 20) or continue to use the glasses only sometimes?

It is difficult for me to fully comment as I was not there for your exam. There is a lot to be said about someones accommodative ability. The nice thing is that accommodation can be trained (to an extent or until presbyopia fully sets in). For most people, true atrophy of the ciliary body is not a real thing. But poor coordination and control of the eye muscles is. I am also not sure how strong your prescription was, where it is usually not appropriate to prescribe a full reading power to someone who is not fully presbyopic. There are different theories on this but most doctors only prescribe 1/3rd to 1/2 of the accommodative demand for reading, as that is usually most comfortable and also allows for engagement of the accommodative system.

Hi, awesome channel! What kind of glasses would you recommend for distance -.75 vision? Generally for everyday (only) indoor use around the house and watching tv etc. I wear contacts out the house. Maybe blue light or just standard computer? Thanks in advance!

Do you recommend any specific computer glasses we can find on Amazon? Or do these need to be prescription?
@kavithanair99634 жыл бұрын
For eye protection screen you need to check StillerSafe Advanced light control screen which is very good for eyes and your future . Check on google. Wearing anything on your eyes will not help you for long hour work on the laptop. try this screen check reviews on amazon but expensive on amazon cheaper on their website.

Perhaps some form of prism could be prescribed by your eye doctor to help with eye strain.

Doctor actually I have a myopia and astigmatism at only right eye of power 0.25 so is it necessary to wear glasses as sometime I have headache and pain in nerves of right side.

Hello Dr Allen, thanks for the clarification between complete glasses and blue filter glasses. I gave a distance cylindrical power in both eyes. Both are different and have different axis. I use anti reflection coated glasses and use the same for computer use as well. I was never recommended to use social glasses for computer usage. Is it ok to continue using the same glasses for computer as well? What are the options?

Excellent from an over 60 guy. My older brother just orded perscription computer glasses with blue light filter built in. I wll also now order a pair for my self and son based on this video of yours. ;-}
