I love scrubs because its just the right combination of being funny and being deep, sad, and serious. And some episodes were actually about the patient-doctor relationship. And it often teaches you some lessons. And despite many funny unrealistic scenes, its kinda superb in delivering themes like a fresh doctor not having the confidence to do some tasks or a doctor unable to keep up with the progress etc.

With the New Amsterdam firing thing it actually happened in real life. The show is based on Eric Manheimer and his time at Bellevue Hospital. I love the amount of research that is shown through House, I feel it really shows how much they tried, but of course it's a comedy so there's the inaccuracies of the hospital being a no insurance hospital, and House's position doesn't really exist IRL. And of course the way he treats patients, but I do like that they kind of nod to that with Cuddy as a character a lot. Like pointing out 'hey this isn't how we operate' but House is like 'ight bet'

I worked as an extra on Code Black several times, and they always had a medical professional on set whose job was to make sure the actors/extras were doing things correctly. And they hired a handful of extras weeks before the first day of filming, and sent them all through a kind of medical bootcamp. I was really impressed.

as a die hard chicago med fan, i'm glad it's pretty medically accurate. like as someone who does not study med (im a film student so complete opposite lol) i feel like i've learned a few things from it (like medical terms and stuff) so it's good to know it's at least somewhat accurate. i also love how the whole one chicago universe goes hand in hand, so you have appearances from cast in chicago pd and chicago fire, and vice versa. it's also got good character storylines and development, also focusing on the doctors and nurses outside of the hospital too so it's easy to fall in love with the characters:) i know this video is old so maybe you've already watched more of chicago med, but if not i definitely recommend it:)

I’m currently hooked on reruns of an old 70’s drama called Emergency! From what I understand, the episodes were actually based on real incidents that the LA fire department attended to back then. They took great pains to be as medically accurate as they could be. Sure, there was drama on the show outside of the medical emergencies (the lead actor Randolph Mantooth was a bit of a ladies man on the show and they kind of played that up) but I really appreciate the fact that they did their best to make it authentic. Lots of the vehicles and props from the show are in the LA County Fire Museum because the show was rather groundbreaking for its time. But I’m an old fart and I remember this show, whereas Dr Mike is far too young to have watched this or even heard of it.

I wish more medical shows would be more accurate and give credit to more professions! It’s always either all about doctors or all about nurses, etc. No show has ever shown the dynamic relationships between doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, radiologists, engineering, environmental services, etc that it takes to make a hospital run. It really takes a village, and I wish that would be shown more in the media! Also, Dr. Mike is the best! 😊

Love the list... there was one time I was in an ER, won't go into detail, but it included an injection that wouldn't go down... anyways... while doped up and this going on to deflate the situation.. and staff having to come in and see for themselves... I randomly asked the staff what their favorite Dr. show was/is... hands down they all said, Scrubs. Maybe not totally realistic, but seems to resonate with these doctors/nurses. I think a show about my situation would have been hilarious on that show. Want to do a show on Trimix? glad to answer any questions.

Bill Lawrence was friends with a doctor and his stories were the inspiration for creating a TV series, and he consulted with the real JD and his wife all the time. Many of the episodes were based directly off doctor stories. One of them came from the news. (The rabies misdiagnosis that killed a bunch of transplant patients).
