Pink Floyd was unique due to Roger Waters' theatrical/thematic and lyrical genius, Dave Gilmore's melodic blues influence, Nick Mason's ablilty to make even the slowest of grooves swing and Rick Wright's sublime jazz influence ... they also just played what the song needed and knew when to step back and when to step forwards, but it was the blend that made it so special. It wasn't just rock, it was a whole mix of things.

The "Breathe" jazzy chords progression to resolve back into Em was inspired to Rick Wright by the listening of "Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis, as our beloved Rick said in a lot of interviews.

Yes, The G, D7#9, D# dim7th, resolve to Em. the yt channel David bennett piano has a video that covers that and others that is called Rock and pop songs inspired by jazz. It took me forever to find what video it was so please go watch it.
@donnydarko76244 ай бұрын
@@gregmyers81 'All Blues' it's not exactly the same, and the fact that it's not, is a perfect example of the human creativity, and the difference between that and what I believe AI will ever be able to do on its own. That is, barring the likelihood of the emergence of AGI from the extremely inefficient, and rigid transistor based computational systems that are computers (another thing I find highly unlikely to be possible). Davis' goes from D7#9 to Eb7#9 where Wright D7#9, D# dim7th, to Em, just taking inspiration from davis not flat out copying the exact steps.

I love almost all of this album’s songs equally, but Any Colour You Like (the instrumental jam before Brain Damage) is always a bit special for me.
