Hi Doc just want to get you opinion. I have my old mbox 3 pro and I'm looking for a better interface. The ones I'm looking at is the Apollo 8 new black face one, Lynx Aroura the new blue face, motu 828es, and the Antelope Orion studio rev 2017. Now here is the deal I'm really not worried about the plugins that come with the Apollo or antelope Orion studio rev 2017. I want to know which interface has the best sound going in recording and best sound coming out when mixing. They all have the right ins/outs for my outboard gear and digital mixer. Just want to get your opinion on this. Thanks bro! Basically which one has the better converters inside.

I wonder if the sound could be further improved by having completely different compressor settings for the attack and the decay portion of any drum sound? Here is how I would do it , 2 compressors are required ( they seem like cheap items🤣) one set to the attack and the other set to the decay. The drum sound is sampled The attack part is cut and pasted to the right channel and the right channel goes to the attack set compressor. The decay part is pasted to the left channel and start is delayed by pasting silence in front of the decay equal to the duration of the cut attack portion. The left (decay sound ) channel is fed to the compressor with settings optimised to decay compression. The outputs from the compressors are combined to give the whole drum sound. There must be a flaw , would you let me know what it is?

What do you mean left and right channel? If the attacks are not the same on the L/R channels, you will lose imaging... Using 2 compressors one for att. the other dec., always works...DOn't get hung up on compression when mixing, because that has to be set in the mix. When preparing samples, go crazy... Just remember what a compressor does, it's just automated volume. If it sounds better use it,but think of it in a physical way. What sounds need to be in that drumsound, for you to work. How does a drumsound work, there's more then just attack and decay....Skin, rim, type of stick, body....just tune them all correctly for better sound.

PROJACKED yes , flaw 1, I assumed drum samples were mono , a possible solution , use 4 compressors 2 for attack right and left and 2 for decay right and left. It is getting complicated I accept but it is a solution . There must be a market for multi channel compressors if one does not exist

If it's sample based, I'd prepare the drum until they sound right... Live tracks I'd build up the compression carefully, say one cp. for the attack, another for the decay....With the right compressor you can get the same result you're looking for. Or maybe think about sidechain compression to have control of anything you want.

Yes loads of stereo comps out there, also free plugins...

PROJACKED do software compressors work well? In extreme , can anything compete with say a valve based compressor
