Them releasing Otto had nothing to do with Rodman arriving, they sent him home because they didn't want him dieing on their soil. And to say there was no evidence of torture is a crock as well, he had a huge scar on his foot and his parents said his bottom teeth look like they had been rearranged with a pair of pliers, he was tortured and deprived of oxygen, that's the only way that injury happens.

This story breaks my heart. Its obvious why they finally released him. They knew he wasn't going to recover so they didn't want to foot the bill even though it was their doing. We cannot imagine what treatments NK does to their detainees other than the script they are ordered to say on camera. My heart breaks for his family not knowing that their child has been in a coma for a year. Americans should never travel to this evil country not only for their safety but for your family's well being. Now, we have to get the other Americans released and back home.
@petrasmiles10294 жыл бұрын
The list of all American detainees is constantly updated, there were none after the last 3 released so Im not sure what you mean by others. As of now we have no evidence from any detained foreign citizens ( white/ foreign) who have been released that there were tortured. None has been killed and all of them described being kept in a hotel that could be described as normal standard. None of them was sharing it and none of them was mistreated physically, abused or malnurited. They were though indeed going through emotional abuse- interrogations, being told families forgot them, not being able to contact anyone, isolation etc. However none was at work camps, or in bad conditions. The only prisoners who are in those conditions have been recorded to be Koreans ( of no Western nationality). Otto case is met with mixed opinions by experts because if for years not even one foreign prisoner has been physucally abused why would they do it to this one. Other thing is that he was kept in times when Trump became president and in those times detaines are usually released/ being negotiated to show good will or as bargain power. Hurting Otto was complete against NK interest. The doctor who examined Otto confirmed that physically ( apart from obvious damage) he was in excellent condition. Having a person for over a year in bed without one sore or skin problems suggest a person has round the clock care. This is extremely rare even in best Western hospitals. Same was about his nutrition and other functions. None of the doctors could also say what was the cause of his condition. Post mortem could have revealed it but parents disagreed. We know there was no signs of any physical trauma to any part of the body especially head. The negotiators who worked on behalf of family were shocked NK insiders at certain point cut all the contact for long. The only logical explanation is that there was pressure to try to get Otto to shape. However as this was not possible , they decided to release him. After 1 week in US his condition deteriorated dramatically. of course we don't know for sure. It might be he was forced to take pills and overdose etc. however, in those cases you need to think what is likely based on previous occurance and interest of NK. Otto would have been the first tortured foreign prisoner and in times where it made no sense for NK. If they wanted to turture him to get something in return , then they would have send info eg Otto is in labour camp ( we know he hasn't) or tortured. Definitely not being treated for a year with 24/7 care and insane medical bill without anyones knowledge. Im sorry but it doesn't add up.

There are stupid "thrill seeking" tours available, organised in cooperation with DPRK's government and some guides in China. I actually know someone personally who used the same tour company as Otto, "Young Pioneer Tours", to visit North Korea about 2.5 years ago. I can see why an early 20s college guy with money to burn would decide to go there. It's something to brag about, especially in this age of social media flaunting and the need to constantly outdo each other. What could be more crazy and ridiculous than a trip to North Korea of all places, right? I feel sorry for the guy, I do. But he went into this rather naively. My friend who visited is from Russia, so of course I don't think the DPRK would mess with a Russian citizen considering Russia is one of their few allies. But Americans and other westerners? They *really* need to think long and hard before they book a trip there. It is a game of chance whether or not they'll arrest you as a bargaining chip, and then you're stuck there.

I don’t think he went to prison without a fight, much like a caged animal overcome with fear and adrenaline, knowing that he would be imprisoned as an innocent pawn for the Kim regime. Anyone’s worst nightmare. He could’ve gone into shock, and experienced utter despair at the moment of the false guilty verdict or when they began to lead him away to his undeserved imprisonment. Maybe it was the false promise of being let go if he agreed to the staged , televised, confession. perhaps they had to tranquilize as the result of an emotional outburst , and in the idiocy of the guards, they over did the sedation. This put him in a brain dead state. They declared he was in a coma only one day after the trial. Otto did not deserve this. Kim Jong un and his regime cannot be trusted under any circumstances. This is just my speculation

In the video which they used as evidence against him the guy stealing the poster was so dressed up in a disguising suit, it's impossible to know for certain that it was actually Otto. The story for ' why ' he did it was linked to a lady in an church in the US wanting a propaganda poster. But his family are unaware of any links to any church. It's such s bizzare thing for someone to go to such extreme lengths to do ...the story sounded so improbable. Korean hostility against America , known as a Christian nation , was probably what this was about. It's so sad.

I can't get over this, years later. He looks drugged and incoherent as he is being dragged from court room to prison cell... I can't begin to imagine the psychological torture, let alone physical, that he was put under. I even feel sorry for the team tasked with dragging him... they have no choice, no freedom... this place couldn't be dreamed up in the worst of Lovecraft's stories.
@chrisorozco77276 жыл бұрын
What if? They made him say the confession repetitively even after the one they sent in, what we see in the video is literally what they forced him to do overs and over again, no sleep only corn and salt diet. The scar on his foot repetitive times if being drug along the floor, brain loss from lack of oxygen explained by a frantic speech pattern with little breathes in between trying to say what he was promised would be what gets him out of his situation. Only reason for no apparent physical harm is only because he willingly did it all maybe they gave him a drug that cause him to not sleep and he thought the 15 months were all the same 15 minutes of recording delirious enough in the 76th hour of no sleep to forget. Vocal cords probably were torn to shreds from use he could only make strange sounds.. maybe.

I can’t help but think that they must have captured a CIA agent. Because nobody moves from one country to another that aggressively like he did being “just a student” and just out of school. Sorry but I can’t believe it. And everyone who have ever traveled to a country that has strict rules knows that you either follow the others or stay indoors. Obviously he didn’t.

What was "the worst mistake of my life" that Otto claimed?
@AMDERS177 жыл бұрын
RobertMOdell He took a poster
@bloodyhijinks58527 жыл бұрын
RobertMOdell He removed a propaganda poster from a wall in his hotel. From what I understand, he left the poster in the hotel room upon leaving, contrary to North Korean claims that Otto had stolen the poster in order to trade it with a friend back here in the States in exchange for a car worth $10k. Otto's father indicates no such transaction was ever arranged, and that this is a lie propagated by North Korea.
@MrMrdelivery7 жыл бұрын
The answer is plain and simple, the mistake is that he went to that country. I mean haven't you seen any documentaries about the worst country on the planet?. A country that will imprison an entire family if one member breaks a law. And they have given this victim a condition tantamount to a death sentence...

This is heartbreaking and clearly something more than a sleeping pill caused it! However, why would any American go to NK? Even Koreans don't go there! And if you do go there, why do stupid things? It's nothing here, but in that country it's a CRIME! It's like going to Muslim country and distributing Muhamad's cartoons! It's absurd to have any punishment for what is at best, silly behavior, but when you know that that's how that country is, why act like this? I do hope that he recovers! And I really hope more people don't go to NK or act like this!

Has the Warmbier family ever acknowledged that Otto made a mistake in going to NK? Have they ever said he was partly responsible for his own death?
@j.h-j5j5 жыл бұрын
The US government is also responsible, for allowing their citizens to travel to a nation with which is in war. The north korea regime of course is going to detain citizens of nations that is in war.
@sagrammyfour5 жыл бұрын
@@j.h-j5j Oh for Pete's sake. The US Govt is responsible? Are you nuts? When a citizen eats too many hamburgers or doughnuts, or walks across a six lane interstate, or sticks their finger in an electrical socket, is the govt responsible? Just HOW can the govt prevent someone from traveling to a particular place, when they have already advised against it? Please tell me your exact plan as to how the govt would prevent an adult from going to a place like Korea. Give me the details. Exactly what measures should the govt take. I am so sorry for the Warmbier family, but their son was stupid, foolish and naive. There is such as thing as personal responsibility and accountability, where one uses the good sense and brains God gave him.

plenty of Americans and Europeans travel to North Korea safely. You do it through official Chinese tours, you listen to the tour guide, you dress in as much grey or olive as possible, you cut your hair short, you dont bring any electronics and do what you're told and act grateful to see such a wonderful country and you come home safe.
