Happy Friday! This week's Subjective: How light/heavy do you like your daily trainers? How important is weight to you?

I love lightweight trainers, 200g or less , I am a slight person, ( 47kg) nowadays I don't run more than 12km, I race mainly 5k ,

I’d pay $180 for these. I adore these. It’s like they were built exactly for my gait cycle.

Got the Mizuno Horizon 6 today. I'm new to running and i'm a heavy overpronator, so it is for me not easy to find a fast shoe with the weight. I got a PR on my 10 k distance, without pushing myself: this shoe seems very promising! ^^

Very interesting info and conversation on knee pain. Funny how you mentioned newer runners. I’ve only been running consistently for 4 yrs and I remember getting what someone termed as runners knee in the first 6 months. Truthfully like most runners, I was going too hard, thinking that was the way to get better and faster. By going 80-20 in my weekly effort splits and rotating between at least 2 pairs of shoes, I haven’t had an injury of any kind for 3 years. Yet I got faster and diversified my running competitions from 5Ks to now marathons. I meet so many people who give up on running because of knee tenderness or pain, but I can’t make them take it easy or see the benefit in run-walks to start.

Great video! It would be nice of you could post the cited studies in the description section of the video, for further reading :)

also, at 1:01:47, you are just describing an observation (people with pfp have a different activation pattern), but causality could be in the other direction than the one implied in the video ( pain -> different activation pattern, rather than the other way around), so not really convinced on that part

Don't have it on hand, but you can find a large portion of the research we've used here in our archives: www.doctorsofrunning.com/p/scholarly-research-on-running-archive.html

I got knee pain two week ago. Generally I rotate between 3-4 pairs of shoes with different stacks and drops. But had a pair of Nike Pegasus 37 that was near the end of it's life and I decided to only run in it so I can throw it away faster (and free up closet space). I had minor pains in my feet from them before (even when they were new), but I didn't think anything about it. When I only ran in them on top of the feet pain, a pain in the knee appeared. I threw them in the garbage and the knee pain went away. BTW Pegasus 37 is the softest, highest stack shoes I've own. I can't tell it's from the foam or not, but I don't get knee pain from other shoes. Hope this is of help to someone.

Appreciate this conversation and it's very timely. I finally got some x-rays done on my knees and found out I have patella alta which I guess is not great for distance running. Currently my kneecaps are both tracking totally off and pulling to the outside of my knees. Hoping that with PT I can get them back on track. Have any of you worked with runners with this issue?

I would like to get the shoe because its recommended for larger heavier runners. But for some reason, I can t get the shoe in my size (14) here in Canada. The Mizuno distribution network only ships up to size 13 here. Anyone else have that problem?

I wear a size 11, but I would prefer 8-10oz typically as the lower end is easier for me to control my run (at least feels like it) and then the heavier weight I feel helps absorb impact well (I’m 5’11 180-185lbs and weightlift 5 days a week) so I prefer some range in weight and shoe capabilities

For me a daily training has to be under or right at 9oz and with a sub 30mm stack hight and like above 20in the forefoot.
