Probably the most comprehensive explanation of nasal issues you'll find. Although you'll need a doctor to discuss your unique issues, this will definitely help you prepare for your visit.

I think you are a genius when it comes to nose. you seem to be a really passionate doctor and a humble human being as well. can you make a more detailed video on turbinate reduction and your preferred method.
@doctorstevenpark2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I appreciate your show of support. On this platform, I try not to endorse one surgical technique over another, especially with turbinate surgery. As you can tell, there are widely differing opinions about this operation by patients and surgeons alike. My turbinate technique changes on what the patient's needs are. Plus I try new techniques every few years as technology improves. There are various studies that compare different surgical techniques, but the differences are relatively small. What's more important is how skilled the surgeon is. A good surgeon can take a traditional, low-tech operation and do a better job than someone using a new high-tech gadget. And every surgeon has his or her personal preference. So you can't say that one technique is better than another. An important point I try to make in this video is that unless you also properly address any other areas of nasal congestion (septum, nostrils) properly, it doesn't matter how well you perform the turbinate procedure. The most common technique I was using just before leaving medicine was the Coblator Turbinator device, which is a submucosal radiofrequency bone and tissue shaving wand. But almost 1/2 the time, I used various other techniques, including the suction microdebrider, Coblator Reflex-45, and various other options. I hope this answer helps.

Can you speak about swollen turbinates and how to reduce the swelling?
@B.Mega.D Жыл бұрын
My uncle had this done (deviated septum correction)....he regretted it horribly. The pain was excruciating, and it could be just that he wasn't properly prepared for it. I think the way you use dissolvable suture instead of nasal packing is very smart and it's easy to imagine the benefits to the patient. Thanks for a great teaching!

Thank you - I've had a blocked nose for several years, which results in headaches and 'brain fog'. A recent sleep study showed possible UARS - but when the report was seen by the senior consultant he offered nothing to try and resolve the blocked nose....or do anything for the UARS. I've noticed I've been much less affected in summer, but as the weather is now coming a little cooler indoors I've developed a blocked nose again. I've found saline sprays give the best - but very short term - relief.

Great video. I am a 57 year old female and I currently have a custom palate expander installed in the roof of my mouth with upper and lower braces. The adult palate CAN split. It was Piezo assisted, and we took it rather slowly so it really wasn't painful. I had so much hope that this process would help my nasal breathing but I was only able to get 3.5mm of expansion due to the limitations of my small lower jaw. With the associated arch widening of my upper teeth i expect there will be much more room for my tongue though. I am also doing myofunctional therapy. I went back to Mass Eye and Ear today. I will get turbinate reduction and a septoplasty at some point in the near future.

Can palatal expansion adress the issue of flimsy nostrils? I am thinking that as the palate expands, the nasal cavity necessarily get widened, and thus the soft tissue of the nose gets streched firm. Greatly appreciate your feedback!

Do you have any advice for people with nasal polyps? My son has been diagnosed with a nasal polyp that was being treated with nasal spray, the problem has not been resolved though, in fact it has got worse and he is now getting pain in his ears so he's stopped taking the nasal spray. Are there any non surgical solutions to shrink nasal polyps? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve just commented on another of your videos. Nasal sprays work for me but I’ve ended up dependent on them and it was hard to stop taking them. Having had five surgeries and still not being able to breathe I’m very frustrated! My issue is a deviated septum and swollen turbinates, I have no issue with collapsed nostrils. BTW if I taped my mouth shut I would suffocate in a minute!

Sorry to hear :( Without seeing you in person, it's hard to know what to recommend. What types of surgeries did you have? You're right-don't tape your mouth without addressing your stuffy nose first.

Hello, On September 29th of this year, my nose swelled up and then dried out. I can barely sleep at night for more than 2 to 3 hours at a time. I'm now at the stage where I have to sleep sitting up. I have seen eight doctors. Taken two rounds of antibiotics, and two rounds of Prednisone to address swelling that won't go away. I sleep with a humidifier going every night for two months now, and all I can say is that my nose isn't dried out. I finally saw an ENT on December 5th, which was no easy feat, seeing as the majority in my area are referral only. The ENT recommended surgery, and that's all I got out of the consultation. I've resorted to behind the counter Sudafed, Saline Solution nose spray, and lightly swabbing the inside of my nose with antibiotic ointment to keep infections at bay. This is the worst misery I've endured. My next ENT consultation isn't until January 31st. I may be mad as a march hare by then, from the lack of sleep.

I have had difficulty breathing through my nose for decades, My nose runs a lot sometimes, I have no cold, if I wear a filter mask for dust or sprays rubber with 2 screw on filters this will fill with clear liquid in a short time I can pour it out. So as I breath always evaporation dries my nose causing blockage I have been sen to 2 specialists very expensive they put 2 wires up my nose down into throat. Tell me I don't have cancer, second DR. same thing same story I gave up. some folks have fluid from above nose (brain) leak down? They have a machine able to stop that, cauterize maybe. Docs here aren't interested. Regards.

Do a video on how sleep apnea causes autism
@doctorstevenpark2 жыл бұрын
CR, let me think about that topic. As you may be aware, it's a very sensitive topic. Thanks for the suggestion.
@CR-cv2ej2 жыл бұрын
@@doctorstevenpark Yes, I understand it's a sensitive topic. But I think it's unfair leaving so many kids to suffer. Pediatricians should be aware of OSA in ASD.
@l_squared52112 жыл бұрын
This is a pretty complex subject, sensitivity aside. There are serval posts on Dr Park’s website with information on this topic that I found very helpful as a parent of a special needs child. It’s insufficient to say Sleep apnea causes autism. If that were the case, it seems resolving apnea would resolve autism which is not realistic in efficacy.
@doctorstevenpark2 жыл бұрын
@@CR-cv2ej CR and L_squared, my thoughts on ASD has evolved significantly over the years. Yes, untreated sleep apnea and upper airway resistance syndrome can be a major component, but it's usually never A or B. It's usually a combination of A + B + C + D + E + etc. I have my strong suspicions about why there's such a high increase in ASD over the past few decades, but I can't say these things here on KZbin.
