This episode was phenomenal! Best of the RTD 2 era in my opinion. I forgot that when Stephen Moffat isn’t writing his own long-form story, which he’s kind of bad at, when he’s just writing episodic one-offs, he’s a fantastic writer. This is some of the most Doctor Who-esque dialogue we’ve ever had. It was filled with so much tension. My shoulders still hurt. And it was filled with all of Moffat’s classics: religious soldiers, evil robots, faltering tech. And it finally felt like Ruby had a defining moment as a companion in defying the Doctor by handing him the casket and not tossing it. I also loved the inclusion of the “Skye Boat Song.” Does anyone know what the Doctor was saying about the dead president and his wife? Was he quoting something or is that another clue to this season’s mystery box?

I love Devil’s Chord because it’s funny, freaky, unusual, really tied strongly with the Toymaker, has a great villain and a totally wacky song and dance routine at the end. And for me, that song and dance routine is an indication that not everything is as it seems. The fact that Harbinger was seen again during this routine indicates to me that Maestro may not be completely gone.

My favorite episode in soooo long!!! Moffat was the first showrunner I watched and although RTD embodies so much of what Doctor Who is to me, my favorite episodes are always Moffats :-) So happy to be enjoying this season so far!!

Varada Sethu is here!?! What is she doing here?!? Has it got something to do with her role as companion in the next season?

@@christianschoff2490 Whether you agree or not, everyone is allowed an opinion. And as I have watched every Dr Who ever made I am certainly allowed to express my opinion and the last 2 were absolute rubbish.

One of the things I learned about astronomy in the last few years, is that we can see Saturn's rings because we are on another planet, and not a moon in orbit of Saturn. If you were on such a moon, you'd see the rings edge-on, and therefore not really see them. So a lot of imagined views from moons of Saturn or from moons of imagined ringed planets in drawings are wrong. Those who drew the background of the planet with the ring for Kastarion 3, (and other moons) don't seem to know this. It's sad that right away I noticed Mundy Flynn played by Varada Sethu, the Indian actress, and thought she really stood out, but didn't notice all the lily-white actors and actresses in "Dot and Bubble" without anyone else being there. I would like to see a show where all the other characters they meet on a planet are mixed race, so we can't really tell where they are "supposed" to be from, but it looks like a city after 500 years or so of mixing. Then the Doctor and his companion would really seem to be the odd ones standing out. I don't think we've seen something like this in any futuristic sci-fi! It's always multicultural like a city in the U.S. or London: whites, some blacks, maybe a few east-Asians and Central-Asians.

Good episode! I missed Doctor Who being all hit and miss all the time, but this series is back in form. I really don't mind if some of them are not very good as long as we get episodes like this too.
