My first Doctor was actually the First Doctor - started watching old episodes in about 2001/2002. Peter Capaldi is THE Doctor. He has gravitas, even when playing the guitar while riding a tank through medieval Europe. Peter Capaldi in my view is absolutely magnificent as the Doctor. An absolute privilege to watch him play the part. He is my favourite Doctor and to me the best one. The Twelfth Doctor I feel has a rich and wonderful character arc. From doubting whether he is a good man to ending up as one of the kindest incarnations, it’s a fantastic journey. This era was superb. People may disagree and that’s their right but I just love it. So thank you Peter Capaldi. Thank you Steven Moffat. I keep coming back to this video. Peter Capaldi was brilliant as the doctor!! No other portrayal can touch his. He has so much depth, So much range, such gravitas. The moment he stepped into the role l knew. I knew we were in for one heck of a ride. The writing was sketchy, at times. The story lines patchy but Peter shined on. From the start right up to the tragic end one thing remained constant. He was born to play The Doctor!

The Doctor's talk with Bill and Nardole in Twice Upon a Time is such a heartbreakingly sad scene. 2 people who loved the Doctor like family, try to comfort him, only for the Doctor to tell them that there really isn't anything they CAN do to help him. He's so incredibly old that there is nothing that the Doctor knows better than the fact that everything must come to an end eventually. The music, combined with the actors' incredible prformances and the thought of seeing 2 friends again for the very last time as a final goodbye, it brings a tear to my eye. The only scene that makes me tear up more is when Matt Smith's Doctor takes Van Gogh to his art exhibit, just the thought of being able to show people like Van Gogh or Alexander the Great the actual impact they had on human history is so heartwarming.

@InJeffable5 жыл бұрын
I can definitely understand why a lot of people like the Capaldi era better. He was a great Doctor. But for me, he was let down by writing that became progressively weaker as time went on. Series 8? Really good. One of my favorites. Series 9? Not a bad series, but there's nothing about it that elevates it to greatness. It almost gets there, but then the appalling reversal of an important consequence completely undermines what would have been powerful storytelling. And the series just kind of sputters out after that. Series 10 is pretty much carried by Missy. I found both of the Doctor's companions underwhelming, and the only memorable episodes for me were the final two.
@SpectrumStorms5 жыл бұрын
@@InJeffable I find that to be a problem Smith has as well. There's not really much to go back to outside of Series 5. There's Doctor Wife, Girl Who Waited, God Complex, and.... that's about it.

When the doctor refused to change once again as twelve i kind of rolled my eyes, but looking back on his history it makes sense. Both ten and twelve had so much happen to them, both treasured people and lost them and learned lessons along the way. Both didn't want to change from the person they had become, weren't ready for that potential to just change into something unknown to them.
@Dramono Жыл бұрын
I always thought of it in a different manner. Ten wanted to stick around and did quite a few tricks to stay the same. Twelve was straight up refusing to regenerate, like the Master once did. He wasn't refusing to change, he was going to end it all. Which kind of makes sense. At that point he had to be one of the single oldest Time-lords, and definitely the one who has experienced most hardship and strife. And with a new cycle of regeneration it was all going to repeat. To me, his last adventure was to remind him that he could do good, that there was a reason for him to stick around. That's why the first Doctor was part of the story, a reflection of how he started.
@Mark_of_the_Bear_Studios3 жыл бұрын
I liked Capaldi from the moment he landed in the TARDIS. Tom Baker was my first Doctor, but Capaldi’s irate Scottish righteousness hit home in a singular way. His sadness over losing Clara and then Bill was better than 10’s loss of Donna and Rose and 11 losing the Ponds together. It added a level of humanity to the character that no one else approached. The gravitas he brought to the role had been missing for many years.
