But that consiquence will lead to his regeneration into the legendary doctor we knew and love. Surely the Third Doctor is a James Bond type of Doctor and an action hero who saves not only Earth but also some other planets but his later incarnation would become synonymous as one of the kind and legendary Doctor.

Some footage from the episode was absent here. After scaling the cliff to escape the serpent, the Doctor reaches the top, only to then be menaced by a huge shadow suddenly looming over him. That turn out to be a huge pair of talons that he narrowly avoids.

Jo Grant was one of the few companions that left the TARDIS for a very interesting reason. She wasn't dropped off somewhere because the Doctor had to go, or was left behind, and certainly didn't die. No, she left the TARDIS because she found something worth staying for. She married a man who was passionate about the Earth, protecting the life living on it, and she wanted to join a worthwhile cause. All of time and space is wonderful, but sometimes the most important adventures are on Earth, working to keep it safe from those who don't look after it.

When I was 12 or 13 years old I got up early one Sunday morning and turned on the TV. I stumbled across a science fiction show I had never seen before on channel 9 in New York. This was when Doctor Who was still in syndication in the U.S., circa 1973, before it went to PBS. This is from the first few minutes of the first episode I ever watched when it was brand new and first run here in the States.

For me it was Channel 7 in Arlington, VA across the river from DC, and the episode was with the Silurians. They were only 30-minute episodes with cliffhangers at the end of every 30-minute episode. I miss those so much now, I am 67 and those were great shows back then.

Ah, I'm Scottish. I saw the very first episode, An Unearthly Child, November 23rd 1963. I was 4 years old and William Hartnell was the Doctor. The first episode was delayed for some minutes due to news from Dallas. 🤔 The show celebrates it's 60th anniversary this year.👍

Love this, 2 different sides to the argument: Jo's vs the Brigadier's, and yet they're both characters we are to root for, rather than the black-and-white shite we've had in Who of recent years. Regarding the Brig's words "cheap petrol and lots of it, exactly what the world needs", this episode pre-dated the oil crisis by a few months.
@caitlin329 Жыл бұрын
The Brigadier is often just outright in the wrong, and this story once again shows him to have been wrong. (He also even himself in this very clip shows that he's open to Jo's opinion; more than most would today). It's quite a black-and-white story, more than many we've had recently (e.g. Kerblam!)
