Its one of the best nature/wild animal documentaries Ive ever seen. And the best part is they simply let the chimps tell the story themselves without getting into any politics of it, ethics, didactic preaching, or intrusive narratives. The producers had the self-control to step back and not interject themselves into this documentary. Its a story told by the chimps themselves and the arc goes where the chimps take it, not where some calculated director from Hollywood manipulates it to go.

Aw shucks what gave it away? Was it the circa 10000 years of human history?
@bigedslobotomy3 ай бұрын
Actually, I think that human violence is a large part of the reason that we developed as a species. We needed good communication and organizational skills to defend our group against other groups. We needed to develop technologies to fight with (which could be also used for domestic purposes). Even modern warfare has greatly influenced trauma medicine, as we learned things during the Korean and Vietnam war about vascular surgery (to repair limb trauma from wounded soldiers) that we would not have learned if we were a peaceful, passive species.

It's fascinating to learn about their complex social dynamics, territorial behaviors, and the raw, sometimes brutal realities of their existence. This conversation underscores the importance of observing and understanding these creatures without intervening, despite the emotional challenges that might pose. It's a stark reminder of the natural world's inherent complexities and the value of respecting its autonomy. It seems to me the issue we are running into is that we are basically chimps with total self awareness, abstraction and self consciousness. We can abstractly look at how we are acting and try to change that. The problem that arises is that we have put so much effort into distancing ourselves from our animalistic natures , that our instincts are fighting against it. I think we should live in a balance. A mature acceptance of violence and how to use it. How to co exist with nature without destroying it. These are just a couple of examples. We need to stop trying to move so far away from what we actually are. Instead we are trying to move closer to what we are not because we think of ourselves as something better than these chimps. It hurts our ego to accept we are nothing more than animals.

Joe is really sparking an interest with everyone. Maybe there should be a warning about animal endangerment to push the idea of being kinder to these animals. They can't stop themselves, we can.

The whole time I watched the series, I kept wondering how in the hell did the film crew manage to stay safe. and why did the chimps accept the human presence.

See if the man actually promoted his documentary, instead of coming on and complain about spoiler alerts whenever Joe asked a question, I might of watched it.

Joe should host a TV show that goes on an expedition to study chimpanzees in the wild with 10 everyday people

Our cousins are a fascinating bunch. The closer you look at them, the more they resemble us. I read about another Chimp conflict, "The Gombe Chimpanzee War." It was a 4 year brutal conflict between two communities of chimpanzees in Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania.
