Three aircrafts wont do much harms to the adversay forces! They were float planes, easy targets to be shot down! But building such a sub was an enormous massive project!

@@Delta-2-0 That was one use for which the A6M Seiran was intended. However, a conventional bombing attack against the Panama Canal, as depicted in the video, was also planned, as was an attack on the giant US Navy fleet base at Ulithi Atoll. All of these attacks were intended for the late summer and fall of 1945, and all were cancelled due to Japan's surrender.

Although the USA had no inkling of this plot. They had provided a steel dam that could be put in place at short notice , to save the Panama cannel .

Can you imagine what would happen with the Panama Canal if only one of the canal's lock would be destroyed? Before anyone would be able to react mini tsunami caused by amount of water coming in to the Canal by the breach would make it unusable for YEARS... because entire infrastructure around the Canal itself would be destroyed making rebuild effort very difficult.
My fathers ship the Gulfwave was torpedoed by IJN I-10 and survived.

Bonsai boats. Whilst the Pacific war raged and the Yanks were churning out orthodox workaday equipment by the thousand the Japanese spend half the war and all those resources on a handful of craft and and even a specialised aircraft, just to drop a little bomb on the Panama Canal. Insanity.

@@vespelian5769 Admiral Yamamoto had larger numbers of submarine aircraft carriers in mind when the I-400 class was designed. IIRC the original intention was to build a dozen of these, each of which could launch 3 or 4 A6M high performance floatplanes. These could carry the largest Japanese aerial torpedo and also the largest aerial bomb used by the IJN in WWII. So their payload was quite respectable for a single engine attack bomber. However, it would have been in asymmetric warfare that these vessels and their miniature strike wings would have been most effective. Plans for a surprise attack on Ulithi Atoll and the Panama Canal were both on the books, as were multiple biobombing missions, the largest of which would have struck San Diego in September, 1945.

Ok, but remember! The Japanese had the planes look like American planes.
Not impressed. While the Japanese played with these submarines of little use, American subs were the starship Enterprise by comparison....and the American subs savaged Japanese shipping.

I-400 changed the idea of how submarines can be used. The submarines that can launch missiles are inspired by the same ideas behind the japanese I-400! After the american saw what the japanese created when they captured these subs, they then try to recreate their own but replacing aircraft with rockets and missiles which later played a big role during cold war where subs are being used to launch nukes. Everyone wanted to have a look at this masterpiece of engineering after the war ended that included the russians, it is not impressed only to some dudes behind his computer screen that dont really understand anything much.

"starship Enterprise by comparison" Doubt I've toured the USS batfish an American sub that sank 2 Japanese subs in 1 day. While the Balo class was by no means an outdated sub. Like most things in this world the class lacked some things and had others over there Japanese counter parts. Most notable of these is stealth the Balos were louder and easier to pick up on sonar then most Japanese subs due to the Japanese using more advanced building and applying a layer of hair all around the subs body making sonar less likely to bounce off. The Balo class most notable advantage was it was easier to mass produce and had more advanced versions of sonar allowing them to see father ahead underwater. Point is typically Japanese subs were just as or more capable then there American counterparts.
