The “flood” of Bulgarians and Romanians in 2014 has been one of the most discussed topics in the UK for the past 6 months. Brits are scared that millions of people will arrive this year to commit crimes and steal benefits. Is that the whole picture? Can these people actually contribute to our society? Vyara Pancheva, tells the story of four extraordinary women who defy the usual stereotype of Bulgarians on benefits.

I'm British born and bred; All Bulgarians that I have met over her have been hard working friendly people. On the other hand roma gypsies? They are not representative of Bulgarians!

Well said John and I'm proud Bulgarian and unfortunately had to settle in England away from my country. We have to prove ourselves and be twice hardworking people just because we are foreigners however does not mean we are All bad people there's lot of lazy bad English people I met here over the years. I wonder with the upcoming referendum is there going to be more people like you and English people worrying more for the muslims invading Britain etc cause I don't think we will be a threat but they. Also every single person that was complaining from us eastern Europeans was a lazy English on benefits that lazy that can find a job and blame everyone else but not themselves. Hope more people like you start being realistic and open their eyes that there's nothing wrong of free movement of people from Eastern Europe. Good luck

+Daniela Sweeney Daniela Sorry if you've had bad experiences; It's just that most people that are not so friendly towards Bulgarians, Have either never met a Bulgarian or are confusing them with the roma gypsies. Unless your in Yorkshire or london, they only like people when they are taking cash off of them. If these people had actually seen your country; How could they think for one second, that you would rather be here than there? I know that the Bulgarian people that I have met and befriended, I was the one that had to instigate a conversation, only because they were scared of making mistakes; I'm glad I did, coz they are great, friendly, honest and trustworthy, one of them has my spare front door key! So I do hope that you have a great healthy, wealthy and long life. Da, Na and politzia these are the only BGN words I know!

Well said apart from the Roma gypsies bit, we are all human beings we need to show tolerance. I welcome all foreigners into my country with open arms, to leave your country and attempt to make a better life for you and yours in another country takes courage. Makes me proud to be human.

Everyone forgets that the most oppressed people are the British. They didn't want to live in a multicultural country, it was forced on them. They have been invaded by aliens who in most cases (south South Asians) are actually anti-British. So now we find that the British, who used to be proud of their democracy, are one of the few peoples in the world who have no country they can call "home". At least the Bulgarians have a country. So stop moaning. You have more than we have.

Old Man I will assume you're not speaking for the entire UK population (and you definitely don't share the same opinion as my British friends), so I'm just asking you. When was multiculturalism forced on you? Before or after Britain tried to colonise the planet? Check out the research from 2012 stating that a "staggering 90% of the world's nations" have been overrun by the turbulent Brits. Can we just stop this toxic narrative already? Brits move to Bulgaria, Bulgarians move to Britain. Big deal!

Before Bulgaria joined the EU, there weren't so much emigrations. As joining the EU was forced to us (which one of the leading countries is England) almost everything was taken from us, production, military, education etc. and it was a struggle sustaining normal life. In that perspective I think it is reasonable for bulgarians to go abroad, work the shitty jobs that British people wouldn't do for a few years and then go back to our land. At least that is what most bulgarian emigrants do.

I'll explain something to those who don't see and know the bigger picture. Read it if you're interested in how this happened and why. At the very end of the communism West Europe along with USA caught the wave of a weaken influence of USSR in East Europe and together with the World Bank , economic killers (advisors,specialists,etc) and paid inside man literally destroyed the industry and the economy of most coutries in East Europe. According to western-advisors, pressure and etc thousands of factories were closed, sold out and destroyed, banks bankrupted, savings were lost. The main idea was to eliminate the competition coming from East Europe. I"m not saying that our industry was equal and good as the West, but in some fields we were quite competitive. By eliminating us as competitors they respectively and logicaly made us simple consumers of what the west had to offer, made us cheap labour, made us cheap tourist destinations, respectively in every poor society there comes drug-trafficing and prostitution. The mafia was born at that time, those paid inside man who so willingly helped the west destroying the indstury so surprisingly became the mafia. We didn't have such poverty back then, before these events, we didn't have this crime, we didn't have mafia, we didn't have drug-trafficing or prostitution. After these so great democratic changes we became cheap motherfu**ers, mafia got created, a mafia who used to terrorize and use us in every way, the westerners began calling us names and as a whole we got humiliated. As a result Bulgaria is 229 out of 235 countries when it comes to population growth. So if you wonder why bulgarians and other eastern europeans come to your country to clean toilets and dishes and if you don't like us remember that it's your country and your government that did this. Not because we're dumb and we are not good for anything else, but because politically and economically your governments destroyed our countries not long time ago. So forgive me but I have every reason to really hate your governments and politicians in my guts. To those who actually read the whole thing thank you for reading, and remember, I'm blaming your governments and your politicians, not the regular normal brits and westerners.

Well the US and all it ally where not in charge of Bulgaria, its Bulgarians who did whatever they did to follow the west it's not out of choice, there are many examples and countries that did not follow the west and are doing much better than the US and all its allies, China for one, Russia is not doing bad either, even North Korea is getting stronger by the days, Do you really believe North Koreans are starving? Fact is the west didn't force Bulgarians to leave their home country and travel thousands of miles to leave in another county, as Bulgaria become part of the EU they should have stayed put as the money from the EU will come in to bring the country to EU standard, but how they can do that when must of the population, especially the young left country for their own selfish purpose? Bulgarians as a small country with a small population could become a very rich country just by producing things that other EU countries needs.

I live in the US. Have met people from virtually every country. When you are living in India and you are a doctor your credentials do not always fulfill the medical board requirements because the skillset and the procedures are different here. The physical therapist is similar as are many others. I have met engineers from Palestine who work in southern california because they work for the company that has offices globally but others aren't as lucky

Come on Germany let's have a benefit of £150 a week issued to all European citizens! This can simply be written off at the end of each year! This would stop countries with a strong currency like the UK being invaded by wave after wave of immigrants and help those countries citizens have a decent quality of life. Also peoples criminal records and crimes they have been accused of need to be logged we need to have citizen cards with micro chips that hold this information on them also.

Is that £125.00 a week which is £500.00 a month wage. Am wondering if the cost of living is low in eastern European countries such as Bulgaria. Can anyone answer this question?
@celliagherman202

Hi , i am Romanian and the cost of living is relativley low but it depends on the area cause most citys here are expensive but the wages are big in the cities .And like in all ex communist countries like Romania bulagaria Polad the cities are highly evolved to the standard and conditions of any other European city but the problem in the country side where people don’t really have jobs due to the faulty infrastructure that the communist ideology imposed .

Why move to a country when you cannot even speak the language????????????????? Ridiculous. Piss poor planning. She could have stayed in Bulgaria and did the same things she is doing now .... cooking, cleaning, . Go back to your country, to your family, and figure out what you need to do. Now you are another country's problem.

Brits want high wayges but are not fit to do the job as some of them are less educated then foreigners. After all we all live in the world of competition and if a native can not do the job then we can and that is what pisses them off
