I love the seats of the E-Jets. They are so comfy to sit it. The downside is a snowy A/C. E-Jets tend to let some ice crystals fall out of their vent slots. At least the ones I flew with. CRJs are a little less comfy to sit it but still ahead from A320s and B737s. The A220 is a very modern approach. Quieter in comparison to the older jets but not as comfy as CRJs and E-Jets. I haven't been on an E2-Jet and most likely want to fly in one of them.

Quiet!? Compared to older turboprops maybe, but it's still far louder than a jet. Never particularly liked flying on the Q400. As a ramp agent, I love the embraer 175. Low enough you can close cargo nets standing on the ground, door for the bin is in the middle of the bin making stacking easier, and it has a vent inside the bin that blasts air in to keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. CRJ aircraft require a special handrail that we have 1 of but we don't get those at my airport. They say the 737 is low to make ground servicing easier but it doesn't do that. You can't close the bin doors from outside without a very tall guy or a belt loader, you can't close the nets without a belt loader, and being low gets in the way of walking underneath. Long live embraer!

Favourites are the ATR and E175/195, the Embraer is a wonderful plane, smooth and in the right hands can be landed to perfection (*Italian Chef Kiss"), only annoyance is how damn loud the APU is! The ATR is (IMO) a better plane than the Dash 8, as it's simpler (doesn't have/need an APU, engines can start off batteries if needed and do not need bleed air, mechanical flight controls etc ) and more economical on shorter routes. It also has both Bulk Loading and ULD freight variants. However its lower crosswind limits due to the gear position do make it a little less suited to rough environments, it needs to be parked facing into wind (due to the flight controls and potential damage), and it's more liable to tip during boarding due to the rear door.

For flying with the major US regionals the Embraer E-Jet series is always my preferred ride. Thank you very much for this very informative overview of the Regional-Jet-Market. I´m missing Saab - which isn´t of course an aircraft producer anymore, but was an important aircraft producer: the Saab 340 and the Saab 2000 are still in operation in many countries.

True. I heard the 2000 was so sophisticated that it could take off even if one prop failed in midflight! I've seen a demonstration video from Saab. My jaw hit the floor. The pilot clearly shut off one engine and it still took off.
@NicolaW723 жыл бұрын
@@largol33t1 The Saab 2000 has the reputation to be the most advanced Turboprob ever built. Unfortunately only a few numbers were sold, it was an economic failure which caused Saab from leaving the sphere of aircraft producers. The reasons for that are difficult to describe, mostly it is stated that the Saab 2000 was too expensive and advanced for most of the traditional Turboprob operating airlines while the other airlines choosed to buy regional jets instead of a turboprob. So the much more traditional Saab 340 in its both versions A and B was in opposite to the Saab 2000 and also the ATR 42 and 72 as much as the Dash 8 were huge economic successes, all of them much more traditional turboprobs. So it´s unfortunately also a story that the best and most modern technology doesn´t make always the race at the customers.

@Andreas Bula Fair Enough, being part of airbus is completely irrelevant and doesn't put the plane in a different category, it just puts it under a different name and sticker. I'll admit however that the size does, given the maximum capacities of the A220 is over twice that of the 145's. I can tell you that the the A220 has a beautiful smooth ride however I can't compare the smoothness to a 145.

Although I do agree with you--I love the A220--his statement was an opinion; not something that needs to be fact-checked

I have worked on ERJ 145, the ERJ 175, CRJ 200, 700, and 900 and by far the ERJ 145 is the biggest POS out of all of them...

What are some of the union requirements for the aircraft? I didn’t know there were any in place.
@LongHaulbySimpleFlying3 жыл бұрын
These are called 'scope clauses' and are part of a contract between a major airline and the trade union of its pilots that limit the number and size of aircraft permitted to fly by the airline's regional airline affiliate.
@kenoliver89133 жыл бұрын
Surely that varies radically from country to country. Scope clauses are a USAnian thing, but USA is only about 20% of regional flights.

The A220 is, by far, the best regional jet on the market right now. And will stay that way for years to come!

It’s only a regional jet by size

Regional aircraft are cheaper because in general most operators of them do not pay their staff the same pay scale but much less than main line carriers. Turbo props are also so fuel efficient they save quite a bit on that expense.

As a Canadian, great to see Bombardier and De Havilland up there! too bad bombardier went bankrupt :(

I like the embraer e-jet.
@rodrigomesquita2683 жыл бұрын
Embraer is the best. Wide cabin, confortable seat and quiet plane. The pilots also say it's the easiest to land

If you’re wondering why suddenly sold all of their aviation programs, Dash 8, CRJ, CS/A220; its because they had been receiving bailout loans from Canadian federal and provincial governments. Being from Quebec, running an honest business and actually turning a profit is a completely foreign concept to them. So instead of repaying loans they couldn’t afford because they were still losing money, they just pawned the problem and programs off on other companies, and pocketed the difference.

The original Dash 8 is my favourite aircraft of all time. Bombardier have really disappointed me how they let ATR get ahead without a fight.
@LA25-d6x Жыл бұрын
So let me see if i got it right. As for now, Bombardier is not exist anymore? They sold the C line to Airbus and CR line to Mitsubishi. Correct?

VIRGIN Airlines (VIRGIN Australia) have been the best airline by a mile every time I have flown with them. Absolutely hands down will try to fly with them in the future.

My favorites were the legacy turbo-props. I'm 6' 4" (193 cm) and I have legroom issues on regional gets. However, most turboprops that I've been on have plenty of legroom.

I’m planning to get an aircraft that is like at least an airliner or commercial uses so a regional airliner or aircraft that is the cheapest is my best pick
@theharper13 жыл бұрын
OK it might apply to the USA and Europe but does it really apply to east Asia and Oceania? I wonder what happened to the e190 fleet from Virgin? Qantas needs a plane for Lord Howe Island. I don't think anyone makes something suitable right now.

Last week I was on a Fokker 50 in Kenya, and also on a Dash8-100. It was a very different experience compared to the usual Airbus and Boeing planes.

You kind of forgot the a318/319/320/321 when you talked about Regional Jets.. It's obviously a competitor to the CRJ 900 & CS300 from Bombardier, and the ARJ190 & 195 from Embraer. Boeing doesn't offer a Regional Jet.

Interesting that the new breed of regional jets have the same seating capacity as the 1970 era B727 100 and the DC9.

Production and maintenance issues aside, SSJ100 is wonderful plane. It's wonderful to fly with as a pilot and as a passanger, you get a space which E-Jet cannot compete with. Regarding cabin and space, A220/C-Series is major competitor. And the best from offer, with SSJ100 right behind.
