SEASON 2, EPISODE 12
2 Strokes, Carbs and VMXdN Kawasaki Bike Builds
In this week's episode, it’s all about building KX two strokes, especially as we have so many to build to VMXdN Foxhill. On Kawasaki’s this year we have Tommy Searle and Mike Brown on 2001 KX 250's, and a last-minute 1994 KX500 build for Tyler Bowers. It’s great to build a different model of bike as it means we extend and develop our own range of products. For these builds we have developed and manufactured titanium bolt kits, aluminium nuts, linkage bolts, axles, bar mounts, front and rear brake carriers, oversize front and rear discs, power valve covers, axle blocks, brake clevis's, brake fluid reservoirs, ally low boy tanks, peg mounts, silencer mount and chain guides and these guys will be putting the new stuff to the test before we launch them on general sale.
We are building a 1994 KX500 for Bowers to race which is replica of his own ‘The Unit’ build we supplied parts for a couple of years ago. It’s been a while since we built one of these, but the frame is out the powder coaters, and we should have her up on her wheels by the end of next week. We have plenty of experience as we have previously built KX500's for John Dowd, Ron Lechein, Jeff Emig, Jeff Ward, and Ryan Hughes to race at VMXdN events.
Carb 101 -This is how we do it! There will always be someone telling us we are doing it wrong but with over 30 years of experience this is the way we do it. I have a pretty comprehensive jet box and have picked up a few tricks and mods over the years which I share with you on the episode, including what to do if she is running lean whilst on the gas, rule of thumb for the air screw, and explain why she may be bogging off the jumps as well as a little story about vent piping.
Back to the bike builds, on TC100 and Brownie’s race bikes we are waiting on cylinders and pipes from Pro Circuit to finish her off but she’s only a couple of days away from being done. I give you some insight into which part costs $4.5k and which part we sourced off a jet ski and why!
Brownie is choosing to run the lower sub frame, but Tommy has been out riding and prefers the taller subframe, (but we haven't tried changing the fork height in the clamps to counter-act the high back end yet) we have both available for each rider so they can decide what they prefer to race with.
With all these builds if we can’t find something, we make it. Our newest little part is a rear brake reservoir. Tommy is out riding his test bike and trying to see what he can break (so far only a back brake) and race test all our new parts before we release them on sale to you. As soon as we are happy, they will be on our eBay shop.
There is only one more video before we are at VMXdN Foxhill 2023, fingers crossed all the race bikes will be finished by then, best get cracking!
