Thank you DOD dash Cams, for bringing Mr. Techmoan back. Now all we need is a "YESnanas machine" to be sent to him.
@Zachary559 жыл бұрын
The production value of these videos is fantastic. Techmoan deserves plenty more views than he is currently getting. Wish people in the States cared more about Dashcams as you folks over the pond do. Bought a Mini 0806 on Techmoan's advice and was pulled over a month ago by a cop who claimed I was going 83 mph in a 65. Told him I had the GPS attachment that could prove "the truth" in court. He told me to have a good day and stay safe and went on his way. Best money I ever spent.

+azuser55 Thanks for the positive words - looking at the dashcam video viewing figures it seems like I may be spending a bit too much effort on this sector - I thought I might be ahead of the curve - but perhaps people have already moved on.

14:10 Motion Detection can detect people breaking into surrounding Vehicles or errant Shopping Carts set in motion by hurried Shoppers. With a loud Car Alarm you can see who is trying to break into your Vehicle, especially if it has wide angle front and back Cameras. Use of GPS to measure short distances or while you are varying your speed is bound to produce inaccurate results. BTW, your Video appears to be perfectly good when streamed. The quality and the great results at night are sufficient for me to add this to my 'Low light / High ISO' Playlist (which has Standards to meet, but categorically this Camera is amongst the best; but still quite low compared to some of the others which record bright colours (British spelling, just for you) in Star light). We really enjoy your 'Review Style' and your thoroughness. A great Channel to visit.

13:05 Re: accuracy of the lap times. The booklet states it has a 10Hz receiver. That translates to a reading within 0.1 of a second on average (source is car forums which I guess should be taken with a grain of salt).

Techmoan, how many action cameras do you even have? I think you can make a warehouse with those cameras.

I find that the accuracy of the GPS speedometers on phones and dash cams are better than the ones in the car. Well, more accurate at least. The ones in cars are usually wrong to make you drive slower than you think you're going. I've tested this with police speed controls, both laser and cameras, haven't been stopped yet :P

Been running a DOD LS430W for close to two years now and just love it. My only complaints are the battery is barely more capacity than a capacitor and the memory stick is difficult to remove.

Great vid as per. Surprised you didn't mention the similarity to the G1W cams, it looks like a modified one of those, has the same mounting mech too (which on mine is annoyingly wobbly no matter what I try).
@Techmoan9 жыл бұрын
+googleboughtmee It's probably more that the G1W looks a bit like the DOD cams - DOD as a company started off in 1993 their LS430W first appeared on Amazon in May 2013 (the LS430 was a few months earlier) but the G1W showed up on Amazon later that year. I reviewed the LS430W in December 2013 kzbin.info/www/bejne/l32pi6iBiL6ckNU and the G1W a week or two later.

Worth noting that suction cups are NOT ALLOWED at all in the UK on track days, or in racing.
@Techmoan9 жыл бұрын
+PhantomMark Interesting - There's always a variety of different rules in other parts of the world - some countries don't allow anything to be mounted to the windscreen. Some parts of this video will only be appropriate to viewers in other countries - or perhaps people in the UK who can use the same track day vehicle all the time and mount the camera with the adhesive mount. I'd always recommend that people read up on the rules in their own country/county/state etc.
@PhantomMark9 жыл бұрын
+Techmoan tbh I would not imagine even the adhesive mount would be allowed in the windscreen on a trackday these days, they are super strict about such stuff now sadly, even in our race cars we have to have a secondary means of keeping the camera attached should the primary mounting fail

+2Old4Toys based purely on my own experience....I find that Mac computers handle MOV files natively but use additional software to play AVI files and with Windows computers it's often the other way around, where they prefer AVI files. There's very little in it though.

Another great review! How does the video quality compare to the mini 0806? The mini 0806 in superfine mode is 20 something mbps and the dod is 15.26. Also, i've heard that the mini 0806 can sometimes have overheating issues, do you think anyone of these 2 dashcams will have overheating issues here in the UK? I'm torn between which one of these 2 dashcams to buy...I would appreciate your advice. The cost is not an issue. Cheers!
@Techmoan9 жыл бұрын
+DjK Productions one is a tiny budget camera and the other a larger high-end model. If the cost and size isn't an issue then I'd get the high-end model with a warranty every time. As much as I like the 0806, it's not a robust device. As for quality, download the clips I've made available for both devices and decide for yourself. Remember though that the footage from dashcams is really normally used to show what happened in the event of an accident, so if you can see that a car jumped the lights and drove into your car then it's done it's job, even if it's not up to IMAX quality.

@cjmillsnun9 жыл бұрын
+garlicson I find it is more than enough. I run my cable from my cigar lighter, under the dash, then up the A pillar to the headliner. I then run the cable just under the headliner to where on the windscreen I want to attach my camera. 3m is just about enough for that, but 4m is plenty. 5m would allow a rear camera.

vents on the bottom to help it to work in hot environments... pfffff
@Techmoan9 жыл бұрын
+Sjoerd Beukers yes, vents let hot air escape from a camera case. Sealed devices are more prone to overheating.
@RobB_VK6ES9 жыл бұрын
+Techmoan Only if the vents allow free passage of a cooling air stream. In this case it looks more like a design flourish than an actual feature. One other detail that I do not like on all of these dashcams is the use of fixed mini USB sockets used as a power connector. These types of connectors were never intended for operation with high levels of vibration making them prone to failure in a car. Then there is the fixed entry position which can make mounting a headache, an issue you have raised in the past. A better solution IMHO would be a short pigtail terminated with a more robust connector preferably with some retention mechanism. This looks to be a very competent dashcam but the "motorsport" aspect is questionable and more likely to encourage hooning by young male drivers on public roads but at least the evidence is self damning when the police actually see this kind of behaviour. Kharma :) If you want performance data logging far more capable systems are available for sale and hire at legitimate track days.
