I like the older Dodges also. Possibly the previous owner overfilled it because they were aware of a slow leak and wanted to give themselves some safety margin instead of fixing the leak properly. Who knows. Like the WJ's too, so long as they don't get that SKIM issue! lol! Cool channel..

Haven't owned a Dakota....wouldn't mind one of the older ones, but where I live people don't take care of anything, and seem to think what they have is worth a ton of money, in fact its worth scrap price at the point they're trying to sell stuff due to all the damage they've caused with neglect and abuse, and tampering with everything. When I was installing garage doors, our shop truck was a 99 Dodge Dakota 2 wheel drive with 5 speed, and the 360 (5.9L) V8...everybody fought over who got to drive that truck anytime we were working in the shop. Talk about a fun truck to drive.

I have a '97 4.0L and I have had just about every problem you can have with a 27 year old maintained 4.0L..... except that. Know what I'm buying today.

I've owned 2 first Gen. Dakota's 2 second gen dakotas, 6 rams and 3 durangos never this issue In my almost 30 years of owning dodges. But many plenum leaks and being picky with sensors. And 2 trans rebuilds needed also 1 5.9 rebuild in my 03 R/T durango after a spun bearing. Lol

Loved my first gen dakota. Wish I had never sold it. Still regularly look to buy another one. I have owned 2nd gen ones with the 4.7 but the first gen with the 5.2 was better. Ran forever, drove great, just did everything a truck should do.

I will always be "a Jeep guy who happens to own a different brand". Jeep content isn't going anywhere, intact I am looking to replace the 4.7 WJ with an even beefier Jeep

Those pesky oil sending units! Lil buggers. As for to much oil or thicker oil, it "could" mess with the oil pump and or bearings. More so with thicker oils. Now on a side note, I have a possibility to acquire a 98 ZJ 5.9 5" lift, super clean and all the goodies. 198K tho . Also both diffs are 411 gears. Not stock of course. 5500 and gonna ask Mr bank for that dollar.

On VGG recently Derek rescued an 80”s imperial, and the same oil sending unit dies and was gushing oil. Crappy design, maybe an aftermarket part would help this issue.
