With its roots in the Dark Room, the Dodge and Burn tool in Adobe Photoshop can be a very powerful tool.
Mark takes a raw image and shows you how he uses only the Dodge and Burn tool to add the drama and style.

Great video. It's funny how similar our dodging/burning approach is! I just do the B&W conversion first, and I actually use the dodge/burn tool. But you have more control it seems, so I'll give those masks+curves a try too. 👍

I really enjoy your videos and its content, watched some other tutorials which are all very fast and sometimes frustrating - I love your calm way of explaining things very relaxed and friendly. I was surprised that you didn’t do much inside the face like around nose and lips and cheek bones and still got exceptional result. 👏 Don’t you do any skin retouching normally or was it just for the sake of this video that you focused on dodge and burn ? Thank you so much - I wish I could have a mentor like you in real ( maybe dr. Dispenza manifesting techniques will help one day…🙈😅)

Yes Mark absolutely will retouch the face but has a motto of “if it wasn’t there a month ago and it won’t be there a month from now, I remove it” he also says “if you earned it I leave it.” In this case he skipped that step to focus on dodge and burn for the video. I hope that helps

Just a question, is there a shortcut to reach that curves things or I'll have to open that box every time to have it opened?

now i just noticed this when you are doing your quick mask on the eyes, you did not mention that when you exit quick mask you now have a selection and that selection will appear as a mask on the next layer you create but you fail to mention you need to invert the mask to focus only on the eyes ?

Nice video but the background music is dreadful, distracting, and totally unnecessary.
