That "Fuel efficiency gauge" is essentially a vacuum gauge The higher you can keep the gauge reading the better gas mileage

The more you put your foot in the go pedal, the lower the needle will register. The tach appears to be a Sunpro mini and the vaccum guage is likely an add on. The shop I worked in in the early 80's had one and I don't recall that guage in the dash.@@Boga217

So how accurate were they?
@upscaleshack
@upscaleshack 11 ай бұрын
@@ABetterLifeInc Well they're perfectly accurate at measuring manifold vacuum, which is what they do. Engines have highest vacuum at idle, so clearly any RPM above idle will mean less mpg, but we can't really drive around at idle.

To answer your dads question about the Thermoquad, it was not originally designed for Mopar. The thermoquad was originally designed by Carter in '66 or '67 to be a direct replacement for the Rochester Quadrajet equiped on GM engines. It solved the problems of full throttle starvation and vapor lock on the Quadrajet due to the location and size of its fuel bowl. That was also the idea of the center being plastic so it would disperse the heat. They are great carburetors, but you absolutely can not let them sit or they get brittle.
@richardbates2367
@richardbates2367 6 ай бұрын
Buick, Pontiac and Cadillac cars especially and of course your BBC vehicles were having running out of fuel at full throttle and the aforementioned Buick, Pontiac and Cadillac and the Oldsmobile motors are a wide setup with plenty of steel and iron mass and would constantly just boil fuel... and whether people believe it or not the Rochester quadrajet carburetor is also a Carter designed carburetor

Love your content! You and your dad should wear respirators when cleaning out mice infested rigs. Breathing that stuff in is a recipe for a lung infection or worse. My family drove an extended cab version of this same truck round trip from the Dallas area to Oregon and back several times. The 400 gave up the ghost on us in Arizona, so we got towed to a junkyard where he proceeded to swap it out for a 440 out of an older Dodge truck. What a memory.

really fun to watch.I think I like the fact that you are more of the home diy kind of guy getting stuff done with what you have rather than having a loaded garage with every tool under the sun.It's very down to earth.I so wish I could get vehicles like this but being in Maine,everything is a god damn rust bucket after 10 years.That fly and drive is in my future for sure.I will have about 20 grand to spend and I am headed south or west to stay for a week and find a car with NO rust.What a dream!..its crazy because the prices are the same for cars with rust in maine or rust free down south..

@@mromatic17true. My 4x4 360 wasn't a plow rig originally until I got it and even before that it was suffering rust damage from Michigan's lovely salty thru ways and thoroughfares. But I have it nearly rebuilt all the way back to the quad doors and that's just the body. The entire entire and drive train been rebuilt and engine replaced with a remanufacturered 5.9L 5 years ago unfortunately using the shit timing gasket that was included failed. So it's layed up in garage right now for me to replace it before snow hits

Travis, after you showed that nasty belly pan and water in the oil pan, I thought for sure that engine was toast. Boy, was I wrong! Worked on a lot of big block 400 Chrysler from 79-89, they were a low compression emissions engine but always ran great, even in the Lean Burn Models. Very reliable, Our Dodge wrecker D400, I think, had a 440 and that was a great runner. That truck is sweet!
@JeffKopis

After sitting so long, the oil pump probably lost its prime. An old trick is to pack the oil pump with VASELINE, and that will prime it again. It'll dissolve in the hot oil. EDIT: Literally 23 seconds later in the video, you said that! 😂 Good on ya!

I was wondering on the effects of the pickup sitting that long with water on it. That screen might have gotten junked up. Back blowing it through the screen merely pushed the crap off the screen, possibly only tempoarily. I, myself, would pull the pan and double check.....

Ok cant hold back anymore. 1 that is a split bench seat, not buckets. 2. that tach is 100% aftermarket. 3. Im 99% sure that efficiency gauge is also aftermarket. 4. That thermoquad is not made of bakelite. Bakelite has not been used since the end of WWII. The thermoquad is made of a phenolic plastic. 5. Chrysler introduced electronic ignition in 1973, chevy did the same 2 years later.

Travis, get a roll of 3/8" clear tubing from a hardware store. Drill a hole in an old Brake Fluid Bottle. Attach the tubing to the bottle & the bleeder. Youi'll be able to one man bleed brakes if the tubing is long enough to hold the bottle higher than the bleeder. Gravity will push the air out due to atmosphereic pressure. Takes time, but does work! And zero mess.

Honestly, I have limited time and so many You Tube channels I can regularly watch but the canopy shell actually caught my attention. That's the 2nd one of that make of canopy I've ever seen in my nearly 52 years. Way back in 1980, when we lived in the Tacoma, WA area, dad bought a used 1977 Ford F250 with a canopy just like that. The color matched the truck, which was red and white. If it isn't exact, it's awful close. I haven't seen it since about 1986 when dad sold the truck but I remember you could unlatch some pins and raise that whole back end up. It was very versatile. You could even remove the hinge pins, take off the entire back wall and have the back end open. Dad built a wood frame and nailed plywood to it and laid a huge piece of foam rubber wrapped in a blanket on top then set it between the bed rails up front inside so you could have kind of a bed. We took a few camping trips with that. We used to lay across it and ride in the back when that was still legal in all states. The front window was a slider along with the cab window in the truck so you could communicate with the driver while riding in back. That was the neatest thing. Had the paneling inside like yours. Great to see such a familiar sight that I haven't seen in nearly 40 years!

Good on you and your dad, the quality and detail of your videos are outstanding. Sad to hear the Impala is going but I guess it would absorb a lot of cash to get much further. Has Chris collected his Mustang? Can't wait for the next video 🇬🇧

That’s one really nice D200 Camper Special. Glad you were able to bring it back to life. Those rodents sure can be troublesome. But that frame and body on the truck are super nice for a 70s Dodge.

Nice find!! I'll bet it will buff out and look awesome once it's detailed. The 6x9's in the doors still good? That ELO Eldorado album is one of my favorites.

All BB Mopars have a sheetmetal valley pan under the intake manifold. Edelbrock makes a big deal out of their Air Gap manifolds. Every Mopar BB has a factory air gap.

That button you said was for the horn, I would check it out again when you get the truck running. I have same set up in my 1970 Chrysler put there by the previous owner. When pushed, fuel is injected into the carburetor. By the way, my engine is a 440 four barrel with a Holley carb. Really enjoy your channel, discovered it about two months ago.

It's been kinda a rule, at least in Arizona. If it's four wheel drive and it runs. Its $5,000+. Idk if you're doing a paying it back sorta thing. But I like your style. Great vid. See you on the next one.😎

Hey buddy, love yalls videos.. good to see you learning from your Dad. Quick tip the next time you do rear brakes on dodge truck.. zip your axel cap nuts off then take a hammer and lightly smack around the edge of the capof the axel..the cone wedges will pop out at you without all the prying and chiseling. Just a helpin hand buddy. Keep up the good work
