Full disclosure....I used to be in law enforcement, on patrol, on a task force, etc. The part where the cop activated his lights and he downshifted that car.....priceless. I couldn’t help but smile. I’ve tried to initiate a stop on a crotch rocket that took off on me before. (More than once). All you can do is kill your lights and laugh. It’s not serious enough to risk killing yourself or someone else for some BS traffic violation.

Yes duly noted, top notch. There were a few spots there where it could have gone badly. Most people don’t realize the massive difference with vehicle dynamics at triple digit speeds. And 120 is much more different from 100 than 100 is from 80. Huge difference. Dips and bumps and cambers I’d rarely notice at 60 will make you never forget at 130. My brother was driving my car once and we went over a draw bridge in a 35 mph zone. We were doing 125+. I was wondering where we were going to land. It didn’t get air, but did feel very, very light. And it’s a long causeway on both sides so it’s easy to see other traffic. The Magnum pulls hard.

Bob Builder perhaps a cheap helicopter that tops out at like 140 mph, but eventually a car is going to have to slow down and make a turn, the helicopter doesn’t. Out here on the west coast you aren’t outrunning the eurocopter AS350 that the CHP uses. It can max out at 180 mph and cruise at 150mph no problem for hours, no worries about other cars, curves. Good luck with that one, plus you’ll have a long range of sight in the chopper due to the height advantage that it has.
@itsnotmereally16 жыл бұрын
Sorry pal, most law enforcement helicopters actually top out at 120 mph and count on state of the art cameras with nearly 2 mile accuracy range to catch people. If the chopper is not already in the air and within a couple miles, forget it. Also, CHP doesn't patrol back rods like the one on the video, they maintain vigil on primary interstate areas.
@STILLNIGHTPEARL6 жыл бұрын
CoyoteB8 73 roadrunner I know there’s choppers out there that are slow, but on a huge freeway you’re pretty much screwed if you run into one of those big department choppers, on these rural roads it’s possible for sure to escape from your average squad car. It’s just like the hellcat that tried to outrun the chopper, cars couldn’t keep up, but the chopper was with him the whole time no problem even at 140+.

Dumbest thing I ever done was trying to outrun the cops! I was driving an 80's model Buick Century station wagon. My strategy was to knock them into the ditch whenever they tried to pass me. That worked well for the first fifteen miles or so and then I ran into a roadblock. I tried plowing through a single cop car (seemed like the best strategy while my heart was racing about 200 BPM) and it smashed my radiator back into my motor. The car shut down about 100 yards later and then they chased me down on foot and beat the living hell out of me! My car was totaled, I had to pay over 50k in restitution and I got to spend six months in the county brown-brick motel! What did I learn from all of this??? When I lived in Minnesota, there was a kid blasting down the highway on a sportbike, just minding his business, enjoying his machine (albeit, at illegal speeds). He came up to the next town, and was met by a police roadblock. When he stopped, he was arrested at gun point. Come to find out, some cop in a fuckin Tahoe had been trying to catch him and rolled his vehicle, fatally. Last I heard of the story (I moved out of state shortly after seeing this on the news) they were charging him with a slew of crimes, including holding him responsible for the officer's death. Why a cop in an SUV thought he would catch a guy speeding on a sportbike will forever elude me, it's terrible that he died AND that the kid on the bike probably had his life essentially ruined. This stuff can be exciting, but there are so many variables and risks involved that it could turn tragic way easier than some can imagine.

Many years ago, I had a 280 ZX that was tuned like Paul Newman's racing car. With a 5 speed, it took a professional car to catch it at top end. On a Interstate West road I knew well late at night, with 3 upcoming exits about 14 - 20 miles away, a State Trooper came down a ramp and lit his lights up. I was doing about 80, down shifted to 3rd then up to 105, 4th to 125 then to 5th and buried the peddle for 4-5 minutes. Got off at the second exit, drove back to East entrance and drove back home. Pretty small numbers for all the big Mopars now, but there were very few cars back in the day would run a true 140. That 5th gear with time to run flat out would really git it!

Ill never forget one time i saw what I assumed to be an R1, but I barely saw it, FLY down the opposite side of a major roadway. Not an interstate, but like two lanes each side, main artery between towns/cities etc etc. Easily doing over 150, I mean it was INSTANT. There was a state tropper Tahoe almost next to me. He literally turned on his lights, sped up, made like he was gonna go for the u turn spot, and literally just turned the lights off, slowed down, and continued driving. Like.. Nah bro. He was gone before you even thought to try. Some cops DO have a head on their shoulders.
