I imagine the driver was found about 20-30 yards from where the steering wheel was found (@1 o'clock 9:42 - 9:44), he must have put one hell of a death grip on that steering wheel, and sailed through the air with it. 12:39 Trooper Morphis locates a bag of weed and a flip-flop @ 11 o'clock (V1 at 12 o'clock), that aligns with the 1 o'clock. That is one hell of a flight path DeeRoh took, just can't see what he hit at about the 2 o'clock position that spun the vehicle landing it towards the west. At 160 mph, he face planted that airbag, wouldn't be surprised if stuck to his face.

This reminded me of a story My mother used to tell me about an accident her cousin was in. A bunch of drunk kids hit them, and caused a roll over in a field. The drunk/high kids were laughing because her cousins husband was searching around in the tall grass, on his hands and knees for their baby that had been ejected from the car. (This was the late 60's, before seat belts and baby seats were mandatory.) He ended up snapping and beating one of the kids half to death. Turned out, the baby was deceased, under the overturned car. They found it when the wrecker flipped the car over. Cops refused to arrest the husband for the assault. Things were different back then.

The cop probably screwed his career, and gave the "father" a ghetto lottery pay day. In hind sight, the cop probably should have stuffed down the anger, and did his job. People don't realize how the road changes at 125+ mph. Even the weight of the car seems to change. A small hump in the road can make you go airborne. We don't normally drive at those speeds so people don't realize until its too late. There's no way a street car could make that flat turn at those speeds. I don't know why the guy ran but I doubt it was worth dying for.

This is one thing I worry of when I'm driving home after a night shift. I live out in the country in South Carolina, and some of the roads have 55+ MPH speed limits (in the South 45+ on a country road gives you pretty good clearance to enjoy some spirited driving, because police don't commonly patrol those roads). That said, wildlife is a terrifying variable. Deer, raccoons, strays, etc, and it's absolutely terrifying, because it's very common we see roadkill and car debris out and about on these roads. These roads are also definitely NOT smooth or healthy enough to run 160 MPH.

Legend has it that sometimes on C shift one of these road beasts would be driven off the line for some recreational time in a out of the way area of the lot. I myself worked at a tier two supplier factory as a forklift operator. In winter there was an outdoor machine rented for us to use if racking etc needed to be brought in/out. There were ample shenanigans happening with that thing on B shift so I have no reason to doubt the voracity of the Crown Vic story. Those Marauders were well known and could lay serious rubber.

Speeding wouldn't have even sent him back to prison. Maybe a night or two in county jail. Sadly, some people grow up still having the mentalities of naive children who think life is a video game where they can do whatever they want and not face harm. Someone speeding at 160 down a dark winding road, not even wearing a set belt was bound to win a Darwin award. Makes me grateful that my basic survival instincts are wired right.

That officer is pulling it out of his a$$. He cant possibly know how fast he was going. He never went over 100, until after the driver was long gone. He had already been wrecked for a little bit, before he ever caught up to him. The driver didnt have to fo more than 100 to pull away from the officer. I highly doubt a Challenger is hitting 160 on a track, let alone a back country road. If it was a Hellcat, sure, but not a Challenger.

I witnessed a accident were the driver was ejected from his vehicle, he shot out of the drivers window like he being sent into space, his hands were down at his side like he was pogo dancing. he flew a good 30' in the air and came down right on the HWY and his car was rolling over and over, not a second went by after he landed did his cars roof roll right over him and popped him like a grape. the car ended up on it's wheels and rolled to a stop. He was hot rodding through traffic weaving in and out between cars and lost it right in front of me. Traffic just drove around him as I did and that was a sight I will never forget.

When I was in high school I worked at a place right along the highway, one day during the winter a lady rolled her van right in front of us. I don't know if she was drunk or what, but the windows were open and she got halfway out while it was rolling and it removed her upper body. We jumped over the short fence and ran over to help and she was smeared all over the place. Wear your seatbelt.

Amazing scene control by Officer Morphis. To be mindful of the possible outcomes if the driver was still active. Reminding all responding to watch cross fire, keeping units locked / no keys, looking out for walkers along the road, etc. Very much on point and heightened situational awareness.

All smart remarks aside, this should be used to explain to young people what not to do. If you are doing something that is wrong, just accept the consequences and do not put others or your life in danger. A lot could have went wrong. He could have hit someone head on, the police officer that was in pursuit, could had a wreck while chasing him. At the end of the day, that’s someone’s child, brother or sister. He left behind people who loved and cared for him over something stupid, just saying. 😢 Any young people reading this, PLEASE think twice before doing something this crazy.
